Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Well done dementedma you’ve done amazing!

Just finished week 2 today and I think this is going to take a lot longer than 9 weeks for me. Just 90 seconds of running is hard after the first 2-3 of them in the run. I’m going to repeat week 2 next week. I’d rather move on when I feel confident I can at least have a good go at it.

Well done curls.

I think the 9 weeks is a guide, definitely doing it at your own pace and repeating single runs or whole weeks if necessary is a good plan. Anything I’ve read on these sorts of plans has said the same thing. Rest days, cross training (stuff other than running) and repeating where necessary are all really important to getting to the end and sticking with the habit afterwards.

I’ll probably take a bit longer than 9weeks. Especially when we get up to the longer runs. Like I said, i’m planning to do 4 a week rather than 3, to build in a repeat every week, but I suspect i’ll need to run a couple of repeats per week when we get up to w7+.

Right. I’m off out to start w4 whilst the weather is good. I don’t think i’ll get the chance over the weekend, so it’s now or never.

w4r1 done.

I was much faster this time. On my app w4r1 is 4 more mins overall running than w3r3 and I managed to cover an extra 1.2km in total! Same route, so it wasn’t that. I must’ve just been having a good one.

Thanks all. Keep at it and repeat weeks where necessary. Good luck!

Morning

Just done my last wk3 run

Question for you all - do you have to undo your trainer laces once you've complete a run?
I have to before I drive home!
Could my laces be too tight????

miffmufferedmoof · 06/04/2019 11:14

I don’t have any issue with my laces. You do want them laced fairly tightly though.
W4R1 completed. It felt like quite a step up but I managed it.
I wish the weather would warm up a couple of degrees - I’m still shivering my way through the warm up walk however briskly I go!

Wk 6 run 2 done. I'm going to repeat this a couple of times this week as i found it hard and i can feel my motivation slipping!
Dd rang me half way through the first 10 mins run and I didn't realise but that paused the app! So I think I ran more than 10 mins for the first run!

My mouth gets so dry and my breathing isn't great. Managed it though.

jpduck I have my laces fairly loose over the top of my foot as I get pain there sometimes.

trier do you use an app to measure your distance?

Report
C25kTrier · 06/04/2019 16:44

Yes, faz. The app I use records your route, tells you how far you went and breaks down your run into warm up/walk/run/cool down sections (the route is mapped out in different colours for each part).

I thought it was the zen labs one but it isn’t Blush. It’s the Fitness22 one on iTunes. Screens look like this (google images)

God knows how she burned 415 calls on w1r3 on that middle pic! It isn’t that generous for me Grin

Hi everyone- I'm struggling but will get there! I got to W5 last year before appendicitis stopped me.

I've w1 r 3 to do. I can't do it til Monday as tied up doing horse things/riding and suspect it would be too much. So it may take a while with school hols too. But I will persevere and put an extra day in if too long a gap goes in. I seem to remember from last time that week two was easier.

Well done everybody else I am feeling quite encouraged by you all!

Well done Pennina, stick with it.

JP, I start my runs from home so I don’t have the driving issue but I do sometimes have to adjust my laces during a run because I’ve done them too tightly or they’re too loose.

Hi Pennina, well done on getting back into it.

I’m repeating week 2 and have just done run 1. First 2 90 second runs were hard, my heart was pounding. But then I seemed to be able to control and work on my breathing which helped massively.

That’s my big obstacle, my breathing. And preventing my heart from exploding!

Week 1 finished! Ran 4 times as a swapped apps but probably a good thing. Can actually imagine that I can run for 90 seconds

I'm on three month new me kick! I would love to join this thread. Three years I had lung surgery and four or five months after I did my first 5k doing c25k. I would absolutely love to get to 5k and do my local park run Star

I would love to join as I downloaded the app about 2 years ago and have never started. I have one question- I am about 3 stone overweight would it be better to lose some weight first before starting? I’m worried about pressure on my joints but I don’t know if i’m Just making excuses not to do it?

Report
JPduck · 08/04/2019 09:04

Hi @GreyandGrumpy48, I'd stay get walking first as it's far less strain on joints and if in doubt get advice from a gp or a trainer first.
I'm over weight, walked my dog daily prior to starting and have had niggles.
HOWEVER do what you are comfy with 🙃 and listen to your body, I've had to repeat weeks, have longer gaps due to aches etc.
That's not much help, but good luck with your journey.

greyandgrumpy I would download it, try it and see how it goes. Perhaps repeat week 1 for a month. If no niggles then move on.

There's absolutely no shame in repeating weeks until you feel physically and mentally confident enough to move on.

Week 6 run 2 again today (10 mins run, 3 mins walk, 10 mins run). Going to do it again on Wednesday then move on to week 6 run 3 (continuous 25 min run) on Friday. Then add another run in at the weekend. So four a week rather than 3. I might do that for another week as well (so I will have been on week 6 for three weeks!)

NobodysDogsbody · 08/04/2019 11:53

@GreyandGrumpy I did every single week twice (due to lung capacity and weak knees) and managed injury free. This time I am starting with 20 mins walking, I'm 'officially' 8lb overweight and 2 stone more than when I did it last time.
