Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Doesn't work for me, unfortunately. Looking forward to making my own running playlist though. Will be out at 7am tomorrow then going on holiday for a week. Hoping there's a treadmill in the hotel gym, and that it's got air con, and isn't facing a blank wall, or it will be very tedious. Have never packed running gear for a holiday before. Fingers crossed.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 24/07/2019 07:58

W7R2 done. God it was hot and wheezy out there. And slower than ever. Can't stop sweating now. Off to finish packing. Keep on running everyone, but not in the heat.

GroovieGazelloo · 24/07/2019 11:56

Well done MotherofSoupDragons. Hope you get packed ok.
Here did Week 5 1 early on and really enjoyed it. Took a little bag with water in to sip on and that made a difference.

Goforitgirl · 24/07/2019 12:02

Well done everyone!!

First time missing a run for me this morning. Because I’m off work I’m staying up a bit later then struggling with the early wake up to go out but I hate running when people are around.

I’ll try and go out tonight instead but I don’t think an extra rest day will do me too much harm.

SisterFarAway · 24/07/2019 12:31

So my plan to finish by 30th July is well and truly for the bin. Wanted to run on Saturday morning, opened the door, drizzle so I went and got my "shower proof" jacket.
Left the house and was soaked in about three minutes, so went back home. My plans for Saturday then meant I couldn't fit the run in at any other time that day.
Went to the Czech Republic for work on Sunday with no way of fitting a run in Sunday or Monday. Yesterday was spent exploring Prague, so a lot of walking but no running.
Now back in the UK and I will not run in this heat, so I will finish later than planned, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Survived w5r3! Feeling pretty proud of myself right now. Not run in years, and always been shit, but slowly & steadily getting slightly less shit! Grin

wiltingflower · 24/07/2019 21:50

I stopped running for about 2 weeks because of how hectic things were at work but got back into it again this evening 😃. It feels great to run and to be back on track! Completed w4r2.

I've volunteered to help out at my local parkrun this Saturday. I don't have the courage to go on a parkrun yet so I'm hoping helping out with help with this!

Goforitgirl · 25/07/2019 06:16

First run of week 4 for me this morning! Running for 5 minutes is hard and I’ve got a right twinge in my calf now Sad

@wiltingflower you’ll be ready for a park run really soon I’m sure!

Outtheforest · 25/07/2019 15:35

So after completing the program and managing 5 5km runs I ended up not running for a month due to injury, life and then another injury Blush (both non running related) think I'm going to have to redo the end of the program and stay away from horses which caused both injuries

MotherOfSoupDragons · 26/07/2019 08:10

Horses are dangerous! Good that you're up to running again though. Just done W7R3 on hotel treadmill. That was weird. Sadly it showed me how far I'm not running Blush. Ah well, I always said the first goal was 30 mins, and 5k would come later. Bit gutted to see how far off I am though. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 27/07/2019 08:22

I am doing a 5k fun run today for cancer research - managed 2 week 9s so this will be my third, though I've not made it to 5k yet, just 30 minutes!
My friend died in May and it is for her so I am sure that will keep me going. Wish me luck!!

GroovieGazelloo · 27/07/2019 09:05

Wishing you lots of luck Halfgirl ( and not too much heat.😊)

GroovieGazelloo · 27/07/2019 13:02

Well done to everyone who's getting on or getting back into their stride. Great that you took it to the treadmill Soup. And, fantastic to everyone who has been in a dark place with this running stuff and is still coming back. Smile

Here, just done week 6 day 2 and really enjoyed it - the weather's cooler which made such a difference. Hope everyone else is doing ok too today. Smile

halfgirlhalfturnip · 27/07/2019 14:53

Thank you @GroovieGazelloo - did it!!! Soooooo happy 😝

GroovieGazelloo · 27/07/2019 18:48

Halfgirl ! That's wonderful !!!
🎉🎈Bravo, bravo, bravo 🎈🎉

When I went out on my run this morning, I thought about you on your big one. I really hoped you'd manage it. On top of that, I even felt inspired myself. I have never thought I could do anything thing like that. But... maybe, who knows.... Thankyou for your inspiration. Grin

halfgirlhalfturnip · 27/07/2019 18:53

Thank you for thinking of me @GroovieGazelloo this morning. I got a bit teary a few times thinking of my friend and walked more than I thought I would but got back 10 minutes before I told my family I would so I guess adrenaline kicked in. The c25k app is great and I feel a different person to 2 months ago through the confidence my progress has given me. Need to commit to parkruns now and a couple of weekly runs to improve my time - main goal is mental health benefit.

GroovieGazelloo · 27/07/2019 19:12

Wow ! It sounds as though you really overcame some mental and physical obstacles then !!! Really well done !!

And thanks for sharing it too. I'm learning a lot from you. 😊

SisterFarAway · 28/07/2019 10:51

After not running since last week Wednesday I did W8R2 this morning. It was tough, but I managed. Had planned to do W8R3 on Tuesday, but the weather report looks pretty dismal, so I might do it tomorrow night.

halfgirl I hope your 5k run went well :)

MotherOfSoupDragons · 28/07/2019 12:51

Aren't we doing well, quite a few of us near the end (of what is really the beginning). Drizzly here so hotel gym packed. Had to take W8R1 outside. Oh my dear God I nearly died. I must have made a pitiful sight, a sweaty old hag hobbling along the harbour. To add insult to injury, the hotel courtesy buggy wasn't running so I had to walk back up the cliff to the hotel afterwards.

Outtheforest · 29/07/2019 06:58

Congrats halfgirl you must be so proud of yourself and I'm sure your friend would be also.
The weather has been so awful that I haven't been able to get back out yet but hoping the rain holds off this evening and I can go, plan is to just run for as long as I can to gauge how much fitness I've lost in the last month and then I can work out which week I need to restart at.

Goforitgirl · 29/07/2019 09:14

W4R3 done this morning! Was a bit of a mess a kept having technical malfunctions but I did it.

Not looking forward to next week!

GroovieGazelloo · 29/07/2019 10:09

Week 7 run 2 done yesterday and felt very proud of myself too. Best of all, I really enjoyed it !! Well done to you Soup. I felt so impressed by your courage to return back to the hotel, red and sweaty and not confident ! Well done!! I'm sure that in real life, I would have not seen a "hag". I would have seen a very brave woman going for it. Go girl Go !!Grin

GroovieGazelloo · 29/07/2019 10:23

Well done on your W8 run and good luck with the next one Sister.

Welcome back Forest- sounds like you've got a great plan. I'd be really interested to hear how you get on.

Good for you managing the technological glitches Goforit. Sometimes my fears are more in my head than anything else and, when it comes down to it, the actual run turns out to better than I thought it would be. Hope you get on ok next time and in the mental preparation time beforehand too. Wink

Next time I go out it'll be week 7 run 3. I would like it to be tonight. But I'm not sure if it will be possible- first evening on holiday with the family. Could be good if I do though - for all sorts of reasons. Smile

SisterFarAway · 29/07/2019 20:12

Week 8 done :) Now I know why you should have a rest day in between, I will be sore tomorrow.
The warm down walk was timed perfectly with me walking through the front door.

Week 9 will probably start on Tuesday next week as I'm going to Germany for a family wedding. If I can "sneak" out of my sister's house on Thursday night, then I might do it there, but I have already been told by my niece that she has sooooooo many stories she wants me to read to her - so aunty duty will take priority, of course. :)

Vagndidit · 30/07/2019 18:59

Well done, ladies! I'm currently in the States where it's warm and very humid and really difficult to breathe, but at least I have a.c. to escape to afterwards. I'm up to W8R3, but will probably repeat runs 1 & 2 until I adjust to the climate.
