Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Hiyah, folks! Care if I join you?

I've returned to the C25K programme recently after a few failed attempts several years ago. I've gearing up for W5R2 tomorrow morning and I can hardly believe I've come this far this fast. Previous attempts took me about 4 months of stop-starting before I got to this level.

I'm still a few (well, a lot!) stone above where I'd like to be weight-wise but I must be starting from a better baseline fitness level this time round (we have no car so I'm forever walking!)

Anyway, hi! Nice to meet you all :) Good luck to each and every one of you!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 03/07/2019 17:23

That sounds great. How far did you get last time. I'm sure if I slow down the progress through the weeks, I'll eventually give up. Bit worried about a couple of holidays coming up in hot/hilly places.

Candleabra · 03/07/2019 17:38

Ah yes the hills. I haven't dealt with any yet. I live somewhere very flat, and like to run along the canal so that's about as non hilly as it gets!

NutBiscuit · 03/07/2019 18:56

I am frustratingly close to the end and just can't finish. Tried W9R2 on Monday and again had to stop after 15 mins. Combination of the heat and the fact that I have totally buggered my knee. Getting more and more painful and now hurts just to walk. So frustrating!!!!

Vagndidit · 04/07/2019 10:21

Just completed W5R2 this morning, which is the furthest point I've managed on the programme before...and looking ahead to R3, I now remember why. I could never wrap my head round the idea of a 20 minute run. It's such a big jump from today's two 8 minute runs to a single 20 minute.

I must trust the programme...Must trust... 😨

MotherOfSoupDragons · 04/07/2019 11:56

I agree about the leap to 20 mins. I'm already dreading it but I think we'll just have to tell ourselves we WILL do this and take it extra extra slow.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 04/07/2019 11:57

Sorry about your knee, Nut, but you shouldn't run on an injury. And the heat makes a huge difference.

Candleabra · 04/07/2019 12:38

Definitely trust the programme. I know I keep saying this, but I have not done any running for 25 years, and was also dreading week 5. It was ok. You can do this.

Teaandchocolatecake · 04/07/2019 15:57

The program has prepared you for W5R3!

Believe you can do it, the sense of achievement you will feel when it’s donw is immense!

Vagndidit · 04/07/2019 17:48

Thank you ♥️ DH gave me the same advice about trusting the programme. Will take my rest day tomorrow and tackle R3 Saturday morning. Good luck to anyone else breaking through a new running milestone this week! Hope we can all report back with good news.

CurlsandCurves · 04/07/2019 18:27

Go for it, Vagndidit

Honestly I was bricking it, but others have said, the program is designed in such a way that you will be ready for it. Honestly the feeling after when you’ve run for 20 whole minutes is just immense!

Graduation day for me tomorrow, week 9 run 3!

SisterFarAway · 04/07/2019 20:54

Yay CurlsandCurves

I did W6R1 tonight - it was slightly too warm, but I stuck it out, saw some deer and a little rabbit in the park.
Very grateful for all the drivers who stopped to let me cross various roads.
The last 5 minute run was the first one, where I thought that I look like a "proper" runner rather than someone who's just shuffling along. R2 planned for Saturday morning

I need to get a "run every other day" routine in, my summer weekend volunteering starts in two weeks and the day after I'm off to the Czech Republic for a short notice business trip. And I really want to "graduate" before I visit my family at the beginning of August. (I realise that this is a very tight fit). Let's see how it works out.

Sharpkat · 04/07/2019 21:19

I had a few weeks off due to a shoulder injury which was aggravated by running. Today I completed week 5 day 1 and agree with all of you that the 20 minute run seems a huge leap. Not sure if I can fit another one in before next Monday. Will try tomorrow, but on Saturday and Sundays I go to bootcamp and don't want to do C25K before it.

We will all crack week 5.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 05/07/2019 08:04

Did W4R3 at 5.50am today. Couldn't sleep. It was beautiful out there in the park by the river. I've got work now, then a long drive to the south coast for a uni open day tomorrow. Gawd. Looking forward to some wine later. Tally ho runners, week 5 awaits.

CurlsandCurves · 05/07/2019 14:07

I did it!!!

That’s it, c25k done!

I still can’t quite believe that running is something I can actually do.

I’m not interested in taking it further, 10k etc. I already do stuff that I enjoy more, such as Zumba and Clubbercize. My plan going forward is to run twice a week for 30 mins. I’m not even doing 5k in that time, but that’s not why I started this. I wanted to see if I can run, and I can.

Candleabra · 05/07/2019 14:57

Well done Curls, what an achievement

SisterFarAway · 05/07/2019 15:07

Well Done Curls :)

Teaandchocolatecake · 05/07/2019 16:00

Well done Curls!

Vagndidit · 05/07/2019 20:58

Congrats, Curls!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 06/07/2019 07:45

Amazing, Curls. Congratulations.

Vagndidit · 06/07/2019 09:59

W5R3, complete!!! I can hardly believe it, but I ran for the complete 20 minutes today, albeit sloooooowly.
I even managed a sprint for the final 45 seconds.
Not bad for this size 20 gal. ☺️

CurlsandCurves · 06/07/2019 10:31

Vagndidit yay, well done!

I’m also a size 20, us big girls can run too!

Candleabra · 06/07/2019 12:29

Well I ran a parkrun this morning. Time 36.26. Absolutely delighted.

NicNax38 · 06/07/2019 22:16

Hi everyone,

Can I join you? I'm actually doing the couch to 10k programme, as I'm signed up for a charity 10k next year.

I'm just about to finish week 8, which is 30mins or 5k, tomorrow. I did 4.82km in 28mins yesterday, so I'm feeling pretty good about it. 8 weeks ago, I would never have believed it was possible- pre-children, I was a bit of a gym bunny, but two babies, running a business, and an extra couple of stone have left me horribly unfit.

I haven't missed a run yet, and I've been out in the pouring rain, and the heatwave and everything I between. I actually love it. Which is another thing I never thought possible!

Those in the earlier days of the programme, stick with it, it really works. ☺️

Vagndidit · 07/07/2019 08:06

Well done on the parkrun, Candle! If all goes well, I have set my sights on running one in America next month of all places...
