Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

@teaandchocolatecake I found w7 really hard too. Well done for today (and yep, the heat doesn't help)

Teaandchocolatecake · 26/06/2019 20:44

Thanks Candleabra, think W6R3 going okay made me think this week would be too! Glad I'm not the only one!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 27/06/2019 10:04

Just done W3R2. So much better than R1, possibly because there was no torrential rain, and I had a puff of my inhaler against hay fever induced wheeziness, which I forgot to do on Tuesday. It was lovely out there this morning.

HeroicAlien · 28/06/2019 10:20

W3R1 completed this morning. Feeling extra virtuous as I'd had wine last night and would have liked a lie in, but I'd promised DH that I'd run down and pick his car up from the station so that he could have a drink last night too.

I'm starting to remember how well the programme works - in W1 there's no way I could have run for 3 minutes, but today it was fine. Just hope I continue to feel that way as the runs get longer!

SunshineWalk · 28/06/2019 14:25

W6r3 done .... well 24minutes of it - I ran out of shade and couldn't face retracing my steps!!! But considering I was aiming for 20minutes due to the heat I was happy!

halfgirlhalfturnip · 28/06/2019 16:48

Well done @sunshinewalk I am at the same place as you - wish me luck!

Teaandchocolatecake · 28/06/2019 17:58

Well done to eveeyone managing to run in this heat! I was due to run today but am getting up (very) early tomorrow morning and doing it instead. My head always feels like it’s boiling when I run, I fear in this heat it actually would be!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 28/06/2019 18:28

No way will I be able to do it in the heat. Plan to get up early to do W3R3 before it's too hot and we lose our park to an event.

OopNorfDahnSarf · 28/06/2019 19:57

Can I join? I am in Week 1 and suffering a pain on the inside of my thighs that is getting worse. Does anyone know what it might be? I thought the aerobic capacity or cranky knees might get me but this has come out of nowhere. Any ideas of any stretching or strengthening exercises that might help.
Currently feeling motivated and don't want to miss the boat. Thanks all.

peanutbutterismydownfall · 28/06/2019 20:42

I am feeling very smug for having done W1R3. I had planned to do t tomorrow but was scared by the forecast so went tonight. Do I double up on the smugness and avoid having a G&T tonight.
The run was fine but I was totally ready to stop as 55 seconds each time and just staggered to 60 seconds. Not sure how I'll manage next week. And a fly flew into my eye which hurt much more than I expected.
I'd say that inside thighs are something to do with hip/knee/ankle alignment being out and/or you're landing awkwardly and/or your core/glutes aren't stabilising you so your thighs are having to do a lot of the work. Stretching will help but it is probably more mechanical than that. I have no medical/sports or other qualifications for saying this but have had a lot of physio over the years for random posture problems. I'd forgotten that my inner thighs used to hurt until you mentioned it.

nowayback · 28/06/2019 23:07

W3 R2 done today.. not too bad but suffering now. I stupidly went straight after a kickboxing class ( that had alot of leg work in too) and then walked the dog for an hour so im aching like crazy and my right knee hurts. The Deep Heat is coming out tonight! Will def remember to alternate my boxing and running days in future!

NutBiscuit · 29/06/2019 07:43

I had a massive failure at W9R1 on Momdsy just gone. Only managed 15 mins of the planned 30, but it was SO HOT.
Tried again yesterday and I did it! Can't believe I can run for 30 min non-stop.

@Electrocute1980 what app do you use for the podcasts? I'm on an Andriod phone and would like to start listening to some but don't know where to start really

halfgirlhalfturnip · 29/06/2019 11:25

Fantastic @NutBiscuit I was the same in Mallorca on W4 - failed miserably due heat but back on track now - well done!!!!

Lellochip · 29/06/2019 22:27

W2R2 and it's already feeling hard 😅 I am as far from a natural runner as anyone can be, but fingers crossed

peanutbutterismydownfall · 30/06/2019 21:09

W2R1 done. I managed the times OK but one of my ankles really hurts so I'll need to figure out what's going on there.
I'm doing the NHS app and find it a bit repetitive. All of the W2 runs are the same. The one I did a few years ago had a bit more variation.
Well done Nut. Bet you're really proud of yourseld

Lellochip · 01/07/2019 00:17

My ankles & calves definitely feeling the strain on week 2, but if it's definite pain, then I'd rest up, and if it continues, see someone?

The apps are a bit repetitive, I'm using the BBC one where you can choose your coach, but I'm either chatting with a friend, or I pop a podcast on as well - I need the distraction!

VioletStar · 01/07/2019 06:58

I've been lurking on this thread for a while. I've been stuck on week 7 for 2weeks now cos of work commitments. But I wanted to share DHs comment to as he's been brilliant and supportive. Its not actually a race. Do what you can and as much as you can. Don't skip a run day because it builds up in your mind next time that you skipped it. Go out and do some of a run, even if you don't finish the time. It's still a run. And every one builds your mind set that you can do it. So my 20mins in this heat instead of 25or even 28-30 (where I 'should' be) was still a victory. Keep going folks. We are runners!

JPduck · 01/07/2019 07:55

Well said @VioletStar 👍🏻👍🏻

MotherOfSoupDragons · 01/07/2019 09:39

Just done W4R1 and actually it was ok! The conditions and heat or lack of make such a difference. Someone up thread said to just take one run at a time and that's what I'm trying to do, otherwise it gets scary.

Candleabra · 01/07/2019 13:14

W8r2 completed, 28 mins. Feeling very proud of myself. I walked for a couple of minutes in w8r1, so this is office the longest continuous run I've ever done.

For those at the start, you can do this. I was massively struggling to run for 60 seconds a couple of months ago, I can't believe I can run for so long now. Keep the faith.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 01/07/2019 20:49

Congratulations Candles.

SisterFarAway · 02/07/2019 20:34

I've done W5R3 tonight, I thought it would never end - but I managed. But I think not doing any runs since last week Tuesday (a combination of work, travel and the heat) and doing R1 and R2 of this week completely on flat ground punished me a bit tonight. Also ran a bit too far into the park tonight so my 5 minute cool down walk was more like 15 minutes. W6R1 planned forThursday :)

MotherOfSoupDragons · 03/07/2019 15:23

Just done W4R2. I NEVER exercise in the afternoons, and it's hot. Nearly killed me but I got through it, extra oldladystylee. Annoyingly, my phone rang in the middle and stopped the app. Very annoying so I had to wing it with my watch. Must find a way to turn off my phone. Keep going, people.

Candleabra · 03/07/2019 15:35

Well done Mother and Sister (?!)

Finished week 8 this morning. Definitely agree that first thing is the best time to do the runs. Planning to do my first parkrun on Saturday with a friend. Don't care how long it takes, I just want to get round.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 03/07/2019 15:43

Ooh park run, Candles. The stuff of dreams. Let us know how it goes.
