Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

I did week 1 over two weeks (had to restart because of other things) and am hoping to start week 2 on Saturday. I'm really happy that I have been trying and still motivated.

I'm thinking of trying to wake up early every other day to get runs in, so doing more than the intended 3 runs a week. Not sure if it's a good idea but I think I need more of a habit of running in the mornings.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 20/06/2019 17:09

Can I join you? I'm 57 and just found out I have osteopenia, and that my beloved cycling is not helping. So have started c25k (with the blessing of my GP). I've never run in my life. I've done W2R2 this morning. Can't believe I'll ever be doing more than 5 minutes. We shall see.

LeukaeLucky · 20/06/2019 17:13

Can I join too? Will start on Monday as I'm away this weekend

SunshineWalk · 20/06/2019 22:05

I'm having a week off Couch to 5k - stupidly promised DD that I would run junior parkrun with her (2k), so done two 2k runs trying to run at her pace (13-14minutes!) - am nearer to 14mins than 13mins! Sm not looking forward to Sunday!!

Hoping to get back to my more leisurely paced week6 next week!

SisterFarAway · 21/06/2019 08:57

Thanks CurlsandCurves, I will have a look - or a very sneaky wander around the duty free shops tomorrow morning.

Going on a work trip tomorrow morning so WFH today. Managed to get W4R3 in this morning. I was slow (I always am) but felt really good. Also, I like being in the park before it gets too busy.

I hope to get some runs in next week, hopefully Sunday night, and Tue/Thur mornings, but the morning runs remain subject to cancellation. I'm going to a trade show and that usually means loooong days. Also doesn't help that from Monday it will get very hot there, not the best weather for running. But let's see how it goes.

Candleabra · 21/06/2019 11:45

W7r2 done this morning. I'm finding it very hard!

Also (TMI alert), is anyone else getting some bladder weakness when running? It's not something I suffer from usually, but definitely some leakage today.. Is this just another delight of middle age?

Candleabra · 23/06/2019 10:40

Finding week 7 so difficult I gave myself a break and went back to w6r1 this morning. Also found this difficult! I think the early euphoria has worn off. Just trying to focus on the long term and keep going, even if it takes longer to complete.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 23/06/2019 11:14

I've only just done W2 but fully expect to be in the same position, Candle, and probably sooner than W7.

SisterFarAway · 23/06/2019 17:29

W5R1 about an hour ago, lovely big park very close to my hotel, fairly flat, the 3x5mins felt like nothing.
Let's see if I manage to get up in time for a run on Tuesday and Thursday morning, evening runs are a big no-no this week. Mornings are the only "me-time" I'll get this week. Should then run on Saturday, but will be with family. I only want to tell them I'm doing C25K, once I've finished all nine weeks

On a side note: I bought a pair of Sony wireless earphones at Heathrow yesterday - and a good thing I did. My water bottle leaked and killed my earphones, power bank, plug and power cable for my phone. Luckily the phone itself was in the top pocket, quite far away from the puddle that had formed in my bag and my camera was in a fairly padded case, which soaked up all the water.

Candleabra I don't leak, but once I've finished the run, I feel like I need the loo every five minutes.

peanutbutterismydownfall · 23/06/2019 21:00

Just done W1R1. I did the whole programme 4yrs ago, kept doing 5k runs for about a year and have dipped in & out since.... although not for a year and that was only a few very slow 2 - 3k runs so I thought I'd try again.
I loved it. In part because I found it so much more comfortable than I did 4yrs ago. I know much more about running technique than I did then and posture makes such a difference.
It took me 11 weeks last time as I had to repeat weeks 5 & 7.
Yes to bladder leakage. Doing it last time was what finally sent me to see a physio about the pelvic floor problems I'd had since DC's birth.

Electrocute1980 · 24/06/2019 06:56

This is it then - I've made it to week 9! This morning after school drop off I will run for 30 minutes. Wish me luck!

Good luck everyone else who is running today x

HeroicAlien · 24/06/2019 07:24

Urgh. Note to self. Do not take two weeks off when you've just started, even if it's raining every day.

Just done W2R3 and not feeling fit at all! Never mind onwards and forwards - but must keep the habit going, it's so easy to find a reason not to bother!

Teaandchocolatecake · 24/06/2019 11:08

How did it go electrocute1980? Hope you’re feeling proud of yourself!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 24/06/2019 12:41

Any posture tips Peanut?

Electrocute1980 · 24/06/2019 14:29

@Teaandchocolatecake it was actually brilliant, thank you for asking! It's very heavy rain here today and my trainers were audibly squelching by the end but I didn't meet another soul so it was very peaceful :) For anyone who is struggling with boredom on the longer runs, I've discovered podcasts in the last few weeks - omg they pass the time so quickly. I'm loving fearne cotton's happy place podcasts just now!

wiltingflower · 24/06/2019 18:35

I did W2R2 today 😃 feeling somewhat accomplished!

I was looking at the local summer half marathon event where I live (aspirational I know 😂) and found that there's a 5k version that runs as well...and you can sign up for next summer now. I'm thinking of seeing how C25k goes in a couple of weeks and then maybe sign up to the 5k race. I quite like the idea of maintaining 5k runs after finishing C25k, doing park runs and doing 5k races every now and again 😃. Whether this becomes reality is another matter though!

nowayback · 24/06/2019 22:39

W3 for me this week. Amazed ive got this far but now really lacking motivation. :(

I also Kickbox and had 2 consecutive leg day sessions which combined with the runs has killed my legs.
Just not feeling it at the mo

SisterFarAway · 25/06/2019 06:49

Managed to drag my behind out of bed and was out the hotel door by 6:20, W5R2 done.
It was hard, I am still so very tired - and under-caffeinated, but I managed. I wasn't the only runner in that park, either, as they predict temperatures of up to 35°C today.

Now off to work and a 10 hour day of standing around on a trade show...

Candleabra · 25/06/2019 10:07

Well done everyone, it's so muggy at the moment, it's hard to be motivated. Running scores extra points this week!

Finally completed w7r3, having stepped back a week. The run felt ok today. Feeling a bit better about it all now.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 25/06/2019 10:55

W3R1 today. In torrential rain. I was soaked through. But if I don't go if its raining I might never be able to go at all. It hurt. My legs hurt. I was a wreck afterwards. Can't imagine I'll manage to get to the end.

Candleabra · 25/06/2019 12:04

Well done. Just deciding to go and then setting off is a great achievement. Focus on the next run only. I've struggled with every single run (I'm a complete beginner) but have somehow made it to the end of week 7. We can do this!

peanutbutterismydownfall · 25/06/2019 22:01

W1R2 here and, dare I say it, I enjoyed it.
SoupDragons I always feel doubly smug when I've been out in conditions like that.
Posture tips (note that this is what I've been told to do rather than manage to do) - head up, long neck, eyes looking forward; use your arms to push you along by focusing on having your thumb going from hips to lips; don't let your arms go across your body as that slows you down; make sure you're doing heel to toe rather than thumping your whole foot down; keep your core tall and engaged; lead with your hip flexors; push off with your glutes.
If I did all of the above, I'd be up there with Mo Farah! As it is, I try not to huddle over and shuffle like a 90yr old hunchback and then think about one aspect of it every minute or so. On the rare step or two when it comes together, it feels good and as though I could keep going for miles well a few extra metres

halfgirlhalfturnip · 25/06/2019 23:48

I'm into week 6 now - weirdly found 5/3 okay (amazing!!!!) but 6/1 tough- see how second one is tomorrow. I've shifted to treadmill and actually like it better for now. Every achievement amazes me 😅

MotherOfSoupDragons · 26/06/2019 05:55

Thanks Peanut. That sounds very elegant. I don't go fast enough to need help from my arms. Very much an old lady shuffle. Will try to remember to engage and lengthen core for now. Rest day today. Hooray.

Teaandchocolatecake · 26/06/2019 18:07

Well done in your progress everyone.

I have just done W7R1 and I really struggled with the heat, I took it slowly but I couldn’t wait for it to be over! I don’t normally check my phone but checked it a couple of times today to see how much longer the torture was going to last! It was the same run as W6R3 which went well so I think it was the heat that made the difference.

However, I told myself I would find the positives in every run and my positive for today is that whilst I was slow and struggling I still persevered and completed it.

Hoping the next one is easier!
