Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

After a week off running followed by a ten minute run 10 minute walk ten minute run my shin seems to have healed and today I managed week 7 run 1. Reached 4km in the 25mins and am amazed two months ago I couldn't run 500m without having to stop.

Candleabra · 10/06/2019 19:28

Wow @outtheforest 4k is excellent. I haven't measured how far I'm running, just happy to get through the minutes.

sanityisamyth · 11/06/2019 11:30

Morning all :)

I had a three week break due to moving house and various other complications. I had done W5R2 before I stopped and I very nearly gave up completely but I went out this morning in the wind and pouring rain and managed W3R1. I've gone back a couple of weeks as I knew my fitness levels would have been horrific but I'm really proud of myself!! I actually went out, and I managed the whole run. When Sarah told me to stop after the first 90 seconds I was really shocked how short it felt 🤣

Roll on Thursday. I can't go out on Saturday as got mad weekends coming up (seeing Backstreet Boys, Pink, Tom Jones, Madness, Rocky Horror show 🤣🤣🤣) but will do W4 Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. I might even manage to crack the mental hurdle of W5R3 at some point!!!

bwydda · 11/06/2019 17:01

W3 r3 done today- I'm a few days late, so will have to do 4 runs this week, but am so proud I did it today. I barely slept and had a hard days work, but my dd encouraged me, bless her.

Feel far better for having achieved itGrin

sanityisamyth · 11/06/2019 17:03

Well done :)

SisterFarAway · 11/06/2019 20:31

Thought I wouldn't be able to go out for W3R2 tonight as I was supposed to work long.
Stars aligned, I was home at 6:55pm and out the door not even 10 minutes later.

I'm going away for work at the end of next week and am not sure if I can run outdoors around there - so with the high probability that I sound like a complete numpty: How hard is it to run on a treadmill at different speeds? Never been on one before.

nowayback · 11/06/2019 22:10

Just did W1R3. So not a runner!

Usually run round the small local park but road resurfacing meant I took a different route. Never again as I didnt realised the road we lived on was quite so uphill! Really struggled.

Anyone find they run too fast? I Kickbox and if we do a little jog warm up in class, im slower and find my breathing much easier. Im struggling to find that same pace when out on my own.

Sad Achey knees tonight. Please tell me it gets better.

bwydda · 12/06/2019 08:50

Sister - i go to two gyms with different treadmills- one has a touch screen where you can programme a touch two speed setting- that's brilliant!
The other you have to manually press the lever up to speed- takes a few seconds at most, and isn't too inconvenient

Outtheforest · 12/06/2019 11:49

@nowayback I am terrible for running to fast and I have to really think about my pace. A couple of things have helped, one is having a few slower songs on my playlist and forcing myself to run to that beat.
The other probably wont help until your running longer intervals but it is setting my phone to show me distance and pace and knowing that at a nice pace for me is no faster that 6.15 mins per km.
Keep going I really struggled with running to fast and tiring myself out at first but I'm now into week 7. You'll get there

bwydda · 12/06/2019 20:59

W4r1- what a jump! From 90 second and 3 minutes up to 3 minutes and 5 minutes, for me, was a real challenge. But I feel so good for having done it. In awe of all the people ahead of me Smile

SunshineWalk · 13/06/2019 16:32

W5r1 here, so not far ahead of you bwydda!

It went pretty well, apart from the rain! Not sure when I will get the rest of the week done - weekend looks crazy!

Hopefully the weather will improve!!!

SisterFarAway · 13/06/2019 21:00

Week 3 done, but it felt quite hard tonight, especially the first 3 minute run.
On the positive side: I managed to go for the run when it wasn't raining and my route has some of the nicest views in London.

Thanks for the advise bwydda, I will check it out when I get to the hotel.

petalsandstars · 14/06/2019 10:49

Tried w6r3 this morning and failed miserably. My knees been playing up a little since the last run and every time I hit the treadmill on one leg I felt a twinge in the knee so I did about 9 mins running overall and fast walked the rest. Will have a couple of rest days and maybe go back a run to build up to it. Has anyone tried physio for knees? Wondering if that might help it

Candleabra · 16/06/2019 20:27

Did w6r3 today. Phew. 25 mins, really had to pace myself.
@petalsandstars, sorry to hear that. No idea about knee injuries. It's hard to know whether it's good or bad (ie if you can power through or if you're in danger of really hurting yourself). Hopefully someone else will have a better knowledge of this stuff.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 17/06/2019 21:26

Can I join in please? second rodeo for me as stopped about week 4 last time due dental
Infection... did W5 R1 after work on a treadmill and it was ok!!! I never thought I could run for 15 out of 21 minutes BUT I DID..
I know this week gets tough but I am constantly amazed I manage every step up, as definitely not a natural runner or a fit person.
Doing it for charity for my friend who died last month so that is focussing my mind.! Want to try park run but not quite confident enough yet.

NutBiscuit · 18/06/2019 14:08

I completed W8R1 yesterday. The end is in sight!! (Although I need to try not to think like that otherwise the danger is that I will finish this and then never run again Grin)
Have also struggked with going too fast during these longer runs, i really can't cope with anything sub 7mins per km if I need to run for 25 mins or more.

Candleabra · 18/06/2019 15:11

@nutbiscuit & @halfgirlhalfturnip well done!
I did w7r1 this morning. Quite a lot of mental strength required. I suppose that's why you go through the programme to give you the confidence that you can do it. I would have given up a few weeks ago, it was really hard.
I also suspect I am hideously slow. I now know my Fitbit is definitely not accurately recording distances as I got a bit excited when I looked at my stats after today's run. I plotted the route on one of the free route planners and I ran just over 2.5miles in 25 mins which is a way off 5k in
30 mins. But I'm focusing on the many positives.
(I do also feel that I have to be careful who I talk to about the running, outside this thread of course. Felt quite belittled when speaking to a friend over the weekend who "just jogs round parkrun chatting away and gets round under 30 mins...." Again, it's not a competition, but I'm now keeping my mouth shut amongst the more athletic types!)

Outtheforest · 19/06/2019 07:44

12 weeks ago I couldn't run for a minute, this morning I ran a full 5km in 32 minutes, I'm amazed and to everyone who's starting out if I can do it so can you. Took me an extra 3 weeks due to repeating a few early runs and injury but I got there in the end. Now to work on 5km in the 30min time slot.

SisterFarAway · 19/06/2019 08:54

Well done, Outtheforest

halfgirlhalfturnip · 19/06/2019 09:35

Inspiring @Outtheforest thank you!

Teaandchocolatecake · 19/06/2019 10:17

Well done •Outtheforest•, amazing achievement!

SisterFarAway · 19/06/2019 19:44

Got off the tube today and thought my W4R2 would be a washout, but it stopped just in time for my run.
To be really honest, I cheated a bit today. I started the podcast once I was already halfway up the hill, so I wouldn't have to run uphill so much.
My left knee was complaining a bit during the first run, but not after, not sure what was wrong. Pretty sure I'll be a bit sore tomorrow.

One question: Can someone recommend wireless in-earphones? I keep knocking my wired ones out.

CurlsandCurves · 19/06/2019 21:08

Can I ask about speed?

I’m so slow it’s ridiculous. About a 16 minute mile, which from what I can see with my peers on Strava is a bit shit.

I’m on week 8, just done my first 28 mins today. And while I’m soooo chuffed I can do it looking at how slow I am is a tad disheartening.

JPduck · 19/06/2019 21:31

@CurlsandCurves - re speed....... I feel exactly the same. I'm on week 9 and I do 13/14 minute a mile! I just try to improve my pace on each run.🙃

CurlsandCurves · 20/06/2019 08:22

SisterFarAway I got my wireless earphones from Amazon. The brand is called Hbud and they were £24.99.

DS1 has a pair too. He uses his a lot more than I do, walking to and from school every day, and says they’re great, no problems with them.
