Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Just as an update I did my first post graduate run today and ran for 55 minutes!

Glitch with the app I think. Was supposed to only do 5k. Anyway. Managed 55 mins quite comfortably!

Now drinking a glass of wine 😂

Candleabra · 05/06/2019 22:49

Completed w5r3. Ran for the full 20 mins. I'm so bloody chuffed with myself, I can't believe it. I was struggling with week 1, and haven't run since school, so it really is possible. Bring on week 6!!

MissingPanda · 06/06/2019 08:08

Well done candleabra

SunshineWalk · 06/06/2019 08:24

W4r1 done last night, was definitely a step up - but I think I ran too quickly in the first 5min run so the second 5min was very slow! Amazingly no sore legs today (first time since starting) even if I was exhausted having finished it last night!

@Rose - let us know how you get on, am sure you will be fine@

SisterFarAway · 06/06/2019 09:16

I had planned to do W3R1 today, but now it seems I might have to work late. If I get home at a reasonable time, I might still do it. Just a bit annoying as I had it all planned out, R1 today, R2 Saturday, R3 Tuesday and so on....

Teaandchocolatecake · 06/06/2019 11:00

Roseandrhubarb

I cannot tell you how difficult I found the first run, I swore a lot! I have just completed week 4. Whilst on the week 4 runs the longest stint is 5 minutes, I wouldn't have believed in week 1 that I could achieve that, but I did. Still don't find it easy, but I did it!

Keep with it, you really can do it.

Roseandrhubarb · 06/06/2019 11:19

Thanks! Day four today - I can’t really say I’m enjoying it but I’m pleased I am doing it at last; I have always been a bit scared of running.

bwydda · 06/06/2019 11:23

Sister- my planned days got ruined this week too, it's really frustrating. But I try to see it as fitting it in when I can and being flexible will mean that I'm more likely to do this long term, than sticking to a rigid schedule.

Teaandchocolatecake · 06/06/2019 12:52

I don’t enjoy it (yet) either but do enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after I’ve done it.

Am hoping the enjoyment comes soon!

Roseandrhubarb · 06/06/2019 14:53

Thanks tea Smile

I really like this thread!

bwydda · 06/06/2019 21:08

W3 r2 done today. Very proud of myself and so inspired by all those ahead of me. I don't love doing it yet, do t really like the doing of it, but I do love the after feel Grin

crumpet · 06/06/2019 22:11

For those who are struggling to fit in the time, what has worked best for me has been to get out early in the morning - just after 6, then home in time to wake the troops at 6.45. Bonus has been some beautiful mornings.

I completed w9r3 today, and feel so pleased - when I started I hadn’t done any running to speak of for over20 years and couldn’t quite believe that the programme would work - but it did! I’ve registered with Parkrun and might even try to do my first one this weekend.

SunshineWalk · 07/06/2019 08:09

Grats Crumpet!!!

Raining here today and I was going to run this morning as am out tonight!

SisterFarAway · 07/06/2019 08:11

Congrats Crumpet :)

If I tried to do the running before work I'd have to be out to door by 5:30, that's just a tad too early for me.
If I started work at 9 instead of 8, then that would be a perfect solution.

MissingPanda · 07/06/2019 09:30

Congratulations Crumpet

I'm another who starts too early, when doing a morning shift, to run early. Also more often than not I start at work having done a sleep the night before. Luckily for me I can run when doing afternoon shifts so generally I don't have too many problems, apart from the last two weeks where I've been working long hours and more morning shifts than usual. It's a good tip for those who can do it though. I do like running first thing in the morning and getting it out of the way. It makes me feel good and like I've accomplished something.

Wk8 r1 completed this morning. It went really well, even the uphill bits seemed easier today Grin

SunshineWalk · 07/06/2019 13:25

Managed my run! And didn't even get too wet!

Definitely paced myself better this time -w4r2 compared to w4r1Smile

NutBiscuit · 07/06/2019 15:19

Well done on your graduation Crumpet!

I managed W6R3 today (also in the rain, yuck). 25 minutes solid of running.

For those of you earlier on in the program, believe me when I say that 3 or 4 weeks ago I would NEVER have believed I could do what I did today. I honestly thought I would die after W1R1. Somehow it just all becomes possible. Keep the faith and keep running!

Teaandchocolatecake · 07/06/2019 16:46

Congratulations Crumpet, amazing achievement! Hopefully a few more of us will be joining you in the bit too distant future.

Teaandchocolatecake · 07/06/2019 16:47

Not to distant even!

SisterFarAway · 08/06/2019 20:25

I did W3R1 this morning and when I head "and slow down" after the first 90 second run I was genuinely surprised that it was already over. The first three minute run seemed interminable, but the second one went quite well.
Weather was not good, rainy and quite windy, but it could have been worse, the rain could've been a lot harder.

I have to work a bit on getting out of bed and out the house for my Saturday morning runs.

wiltingflower · 08/06/2019 22:33

I need to do my last run for week 1 tommorow. It's been a nice gentle start overall and I've been matching run days to wash hair days because I find that my hair gets greasy more often with exercise.

When I started running last weekend I wasn't planning on dieting, just eating more healthily than normal. Then I started looking into healthy lifestyles, stumbled onto portion sizes and realised that I was eating far too much! I think I am properly eating more healthily now although I need to work on my water intake.

Do you think it would be ok to do more runs than the expected 3 each week as long as I left one day in between runs for resting?
I really enjoy the habit of running in the mornings and would rather go more often.

wiltingflower · 08/06/2019 22:36

Really well done @crumpet!
This is so exciting and I hope you enjoy parkrunning! Being able to join parkruns is my aim too.

crumpet · 10/06/2019 07:44

Oh wow, thank you all! It is amazing what this programme can do for people isn’t it - really very uplifting. This is a very impressive community. Not managed a park run just yet, but so far have still run every other day, have completed the local 5k route, and am booked in for a 5k colour run next weekend with the dc, which should be fun.

I do like to still have Sarah millican as a comfort blanket in the background though - I haven’t graduated away from her just yet!

Candleabra · 10/06/2019 09:49

Well done everyone, also enjoying the lovely & supportive thread.

Did w6r1 this morning. Found it hard. Think I went off too quickly and also may have got a bit carried away after the euphoria of running for 20 mins last time. Follow the programme and keep it slow and steady....

SisterFarAway · 10/06/2019 18:26

My planned W3R2 has been rained off. I don't mind going for a run in a light rain, but not in the downpour we had all day.
