Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

I have no idea of the distance actually running. With the warm up and warm down walk it's usually about 3.5 miles.
I'm going to move onto actual 5k next. Looking at the Nike run club app at the moment. I start tomorrow!

CurlsandCurves · 02/06/2019 20:48

Well done Pardalis !!! Bet you feel amazing!

Pardalis · 02/06/2019 22:24

Super proud! When I completed the run on the app and it told me I was a graduate I got a bit emosh !!
When I said I was going to do it, those closest to me laughed. Well ha! I'm the bitch running 30 mins now!! 😂

Candleabra · 03/06/2019 12:51

Great stuff @pardalis
I've just done r2w5. Full 20 mins next. Shit got real!

CurlsandCurves · 03/06/2019 13:57

You can do it, Candleabra just pace yourself.

W6r3 today, followed by a dance fit class.

petalsandstars · 03/06/2019 14:26

I did the same run wk5 r2 this morning candleabra-when are you doing the next one? My next one will be Thursday - will need some power music to push through that I think!

MissingPanda · 03/06/2019 14:35

Wk7 r3 completed this morning. Next run will be Friday.

candleabra and petalsandstars you'll both be fine.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 03/06/2019 21:04

I'm still desperate to get back to C25k but unfortunately not healed yet and probably won't be for at least another month. I'm worried I'll lose my impetus and won't ever run again so I'm thinking of entering another race (had to defer the one for 2 weeks time) but am worried I'm tempting fate!

bwydda · 04/06/2019 08:29

Week 3 run 1 today- once more done outside and it was incredibly hard. There's a lot more work involved in doing it off a treadmill. Took my 8yr old dd- without whom I would have given up Blushshe was so encouraging and supportive , bless GrinSmile

Outtheforest · 04/06/2019 09:54

I seem to have developed shin splints, the 25min run seemed to be a step to far and since whenever I've tried to run one of my shins has hurt so much I've had to stop after 10mins. Also hurts if I do alot of walking and when I got stuck in traffic using the clutch of my car Confused . Anybody managed this? Do I try and power through or should I rest. I've not ran for 5 days now but still aching at night.

PinaColadaPlease · 04/06/2019 10:31

Outtheforest. New trainers stopped my shins hurting. I was really struggling with my shins and sometimes calf pain as well but I bought some proper running trainers and have had no problems since.

FATEdestiny · 04/06/2019 13:24

Zero drop trainers (like converse superstars or similar) can cause shin and foot problems. I can't wear completely flat shoes for anything more than a couple of km walk.

As for power through or rest - I run every day (finished C25K April 1018) and always power through. Most niggles I've come across are to do with either (a) poor running form, that I focus on to correct, or (b) not warming up, and the niggle goes once I've in my stride.

Outtheforest · 04/06/2019 14:30

I've already got proper running trainers but they're pretty old perhaps its time for new ones. Sadly the niggling doesn't go, usually it's fine at the start and gradually builds until about 2km in when it's bad enough to stop. I then find I have pain all night in bursts. Maybe I should try dealing with it for a few days and hope it passes. Its not horrendous pain but is pretty uncomfortable.

MonstranceClock · 04/06/2019 14:32

I did my first run today. Had to keep stopping during the run as my leggings kept falling down Grin

Oh well, will try again tomorrow!

SisterFarAway · 04/06/2019 14:38

I've got W2R3 planned for tonight, currently p1ssing with rain where I am. Any tips on keeping my mobile dry?

I actually look forward to it, which is not something I would have anticipated. Ever!

bwydda · 04/06/2019 14:40

Sister- I bought one of these for £1.50 from eBay . It's great- it keeps phone dry and more accurately counts steps than when in pocket.

C25k / couch to 5k - Spring 2019 new starters. All welcome!
SisterFarAway · 04/06/2019 14:44

Sorry, should have said, I already have one of these from Nike. Just not sure if it really keeps the phone dry.

bwydda · 04/06/2019 15:09

Ah- the pocket of mine is plastic coated around the phone and it sits just under me sleeve. It kept mine dry in the pouring down rain this morning anyway Grin

Yogurty · 04/06/2019 15:29

Outtheforest - have you tried wearing a compression sleeve on the offending shin when you run? Lots of them here.

thomasthecheekyone · 04/06/2019 19:01

Just found this thread. I'm on week 4, doing run 3 tomorrow. Week 5 looks terrifying!

SisterFarAway · 04/06/2019 20:21

That's week two done for me and the weather gods were nice, it stopped to rain just before I went out.
Morning runs on the weekend are definitely "easier" for me than evening rungs after work.
A note to myself: Do not eat half a packet of Haribo before a run, they will try to fight back.

diamantegal · 05/06/2019 06:45

Can I join in? Just completed W2R2 - and I'm knackered! I did this a couple of years ago, and don't remember it being so hard then. Mind you, I was a stone lighter, and not doing it at 6am, which I think helped. I'm not really a morning exerciser (not really an exerciser at all!) but it's the only time I can do it now.

Encouraged to see other people succeeding though!

NutBiscuit · 05/06/2019 12:48

Welcome diamantegal!

Well done Pardalis! Love to see people making it to the end.

I've just done W6R2. That's the last session where I'll be able to walk between times of running.....gulp!!

TMI alert......but I am really struggling with my stomach when I run. Either DESPERATE for the toilet, or a mega stomach ache. It's really limiting when I can run as I just can't do the mornings. Need to have time to have a good "clear out" beforehand.

I know it's not unusual and lots of people suffer with it. Just wondering if anyone else on here did, and if so, anything that helped?

Roseandrhubarb · 05/06/2019 19:46

Hello Smile

I started this on Monday. I’m really struggling, and I’m worried I’ll never be able to run 3 miles Sad

NutBiscuit · 05/06/2019 21:45

You'll be ok Rose. Someone upthread told me to "Trust in the plan" and it's true. Every week I have been sure I won't be able to do it, but somehow I can!
