Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

@BedraggledBlitz - I use the free part of strava, you can pay more for extras.

crumpet · 27/05/2019 21:34

@FATEdestiny, thank you - it helps knowing that it’s normal!

SquishySquirmy · 27/05/2019 21:54

Week 7 run 3 done.
Very, very rainy but the most enjoyable run yet.. turns out I prefer running in the rain! I don't get too hot, the streets are all mine, and it's weirdly invigorating. 🌧️

Pardalis · 27/05/2019 23:18

For those of you thinking about starting or at the beginning, a few words of encouragement. People are starting to say to me that I look well and I've lost weight (I'm a fatty!!)
And I feel good! In bad news my clothes don't fit me anymore !
I even got on a pair of jeans that I bought yonks ago and have been sitting in my wardrobe ever since!

Outtheforest · 28/05/2019 06:46

I got a new phone and the apps just don't seem to want to work on it so I've just been gradually upping my distance/time can now easily manage 22mins and about 3.25km aiming for 25 and 3.5km next. Cannot believe I can now run for so long I struggled with 1 minute at the start

sulkysukey · 28/05/2019 08:33

I've tried to get into regular exercise so many times and this is the only thing that's worked - cannot believe I've now done 2x 30 min runs - would not have believed that a few weeks ago!^^ Anyone thinking about it, just do it!

But... anyone got any good ankle pain stories? My right ankle is really hurting when I run. It seems to feel slightly better towards the end of the run (and isn't swollen) so I'm really hoping it's something that will magically just disappear... 🤞

SquishySquirmy · 28/05/2019 11:20

sulkey my ankles ache too after running. It's like the mild ache i get from sore muscles, rather than the kind of pain I'd associate with damage if that makes sense. Is that the same for you?

I think it might be because the muscles around my ankles are particularly weak (which makes sense as I've gone over on my ankles before just walking along the street!)
I think this probably means I am quite susceptible to twisting an ankle, so I am being extra careful about where I put my feet when I run.
I am hoping that the muscles will continue to strengthen over time.

I wouldn't run if they were properly painful though- that might risk doing damage that requires a long break from running.

bwyddda · 28/05/2019 14:51

Can I join? I've just done week 2 run 2.

Has anyone else done this in a gym? I'm doing it on a treadmill, but yesterday tried outside in the real world- my god it was so so much harder! My calves were in agony. I've done day 2 today in the gym again, at a fair pace and with an incline, and whilst it hurt, it wasn't like yesterday. I ran on rocky ground so I guess it could be that. Will it be just as effective in the gym?

sulkysukey · 28/05/2019 22:19

Thanks squishy, it's just weird being only my right side, I'm going to try and loosen my laces and hope it improves!
Bwyddda, I've only done 1 of my runs on a treadmill and did find it easier than outside, but it'll still be working either way!

SisterFarAway · 29/05/2019 10:03

I've started two weeks ago and did Run 1 of week 2 on Saturday, but have now come down with a bad cold and cough, so no running until that's over (or at least better).

Shall I start over again or can I just continue where I left off? What's the advice on that?

petalsandstars · 29/05/2019 10:49

I’ve just repeated run 3 of week 4 as I’d missed almost 2 weeks through working at odd times and other reasons. Felt ok and not like a massive back step, and more confident with moving on to the next week properly next time. I’m a treadmill runner too atm as I like weights afterwards.

MissingPanda · 29/05/2019 13:33

Haven't posted for a while but have been running. Completed wk7 r2 this morning. Found it easier than r1 although I felt a bit crappy when I woke up. Feeling a bit off again now but am at work every morning (including a couple of long days) for the next four days so probably won't run until Monday now.

@sisterfaraway I'd try wk2 again when you get back into it and if it goes okay then carry on with wk2.

SunshineWalk · 29/05/2019 21:48

Hi! I am due to start week 3 tomorrow - eeek! Only exercise before was walking (although a fair amount of it), so it's a bit of an adjustment - wanted to run this evening but as I ran yesterday I stopped myself - taking wanting to run as a good sign!

Will look into Strava!

CurlsandCurves · 30/05/2019 09:37

Just done w6r2. It was ok, the second 10 min run I struggled to find my groove. Very true whoever upthread said it’s as much a psychological battle as a physical one.

Dreading doing rn 3 on Saturday, it’s going to be a warm one!

wiltingflower · 30/05/2019 13:18

@squishysquirmy I've bought my trainers and insoles 😃

I'm really excited to get started hopefully this evening otherwise definitely tommorow morning!

I need to search for the right couch to 5k programme now. I'm hoping that eventually I'll have enough courage to go to the local park run.

wiltingflower · 30/05/2019 13:57

I've downloaded the NHS app for couch to 5k and read more about what to do for the programme. I'm feeling motivated!

JPduck · 30/05/2019 18:29

@wiltingflower - the health unlocked app is great to use alongside the nhs app. Lots of support on there too 😀

Just finished wk7, weirdly looking forward to my 28 minute runs next week 🙃

SunshineWalk · 30/05/2019 22:18

Wk3r1 done today - actually not bad at all. Although if wk8 is 28minute runs, that's a lot different to the 3minute one I did today 🤣🤣

Pardalis · 31/05/2019 00:55

W9R2 done! Last night. Quite hard in the warm muggy weather but I did it. And did a crazy speed up at the end!
One more to go
For those of you on earlier weeks - don't worry. It just works. You'll be fine

SunshineWalk · 31/05/2019 07:36

Great to hear @Pardalis - I am feeling it in my legs today!

CurlsandCurves · 01/06/2019 19:59

W6r3 didn’t happen today.

My plantar fasciitis is grumbling away in my left foot, threatening to flare up again. And I did a Clubbercize class yesterday. So I decided to rest and stretch it for a couple of days. Don’t want to have to stop now.

Good job really as DH has had me slaving away in the garden all afternoon I’m knackered!

Fortunately my trainers are great at support and I don’t suffer while I’m running. Next run is Monday.

Pardalis · 01/06/2019 20:14

I've done it! W9R3 complete!!

Thanks for the support everyone. Have an unmumsnetty bunch of kisses!

XXXXXXX 😂

MissingPanda · 01/06/2019 23:38

Well done @Pardalis Grin

SunshineWalk · 02/06/2019 06:52

Grats @Pardalis !!!

crumpet · 02/06/2019 17:15

Well done @Pardalis! Out of interest, do you know what distance you ran? I’ve just started w9, and have just got over the 4K mark in the half hour time - my pace seems to have stayed the same over the last couple of weeks. I think I’d secretly hoped to be hitting the 5k distance, but it looks not to be at the moment.
