Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

I started parkwalking before I started c25k. I had hoped to do w1r2 as the second lap of parkrun yesterday- using the walk to the car as the cool down, but dd had d and v yesterday so I couldn't go. Got a full day today, and tomorrow, wondering if I can fit a run in early on Tuesday!

Hi 👋 all! Im on week three of the couch to 5k and up until now have been running round my (fairly small) garden! Today I bit the bullet and went out and did my final time on week three.....and it was so much harder than running around my garden!! I am thinking of respecting a few sessions of week three so I feel confident running the three minutes...... has anyone else had to repeat a week this early? I’m feeling a little disheartened!

sanityisamyth · 12/05/2019 13:51

Hi @gingajewel well done! Don't feel disheartened. I've repeated quite a few of the runs. Just move onto the next week when you feel you can. Each week needs to be a proper challenge so don't be afraid to move up. I'm on W5R2 and really surprised how far I've come. I did a Junior Parkrun with my DS this morning and jogged most of the way round. It's inconceivable to think I only started running for the first time ever about 8 weeks ago!! Keep going!!!

MissingPanda · 12/05/2019 16:19

I repeated a run on Wk3 before moving onto wk4 which I think helped.

I was planning on doing another run on wk4 this morning but thought sod it and did wk5 r1 instead. Glad I did but will probably repeat it on Tuesday, will see how I feel.

Has anyone else started getting knee pain doing C25K? I just did W3R2 and it was great fitness-wise but my knees have started hurting a bit over the last few runs. I'm not sure whether to keep pushing on or whether I'm doing damage and should stop. I'd be gutted to stop.

Pardalis · 12/05/2019 19:36

I had knee twinge last week but I know it's an old injury. I had a 3 day break which helped.
I've just done another 25 min run. After a busy day gardening it was quite tiring! But I managed it

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 12/05/2019 20:21

Hmm, I came to check whether the plan for W5R3 was an administrative error - they must have mixed it up with a W9 W6 run, right? Argh wrong, I see. How, when running for 5 minutes is SO HARD, does anyone make a leap to 20 minutes? I can just about imagine clinging on for 8 minutes. But 20?????

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 12/05/2019 20:22

Also, how much exercise do you have to do to get one of these endorphin rushes I’ve heard about? Or is that just a myth to lure the unwary into running shoes?

Fazackerley · 12/05/2019 20:28

I find running for 20 minutes solid much easier than stopping and starting

MyGastIsFlabbered · 12/05/2019 20:30

@NomNomNominativeDeterminism I honestly thought the endorphins thing was a huge myth. But then I did my W3R1 and the buzz was incredible. I've had to stop at W5 because I've injured my ankles and I'm genuinely missing it and can't wait to run again. I never thought I'd feel like that. Hang in there!

fabmaz · 12/05/2019 20:38

Hi all, I'm on week 7 now!
Feels crazy that I have gone from no running at all to running for 25 mins straight.
Good luck to all!! And just believe in yourself, it's more mentally challenging I find!

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 12/05/2019 20:55

MyGhast, I hope your ankles settle. You’re right not to push it.

I’m just into W5 and the whole thing has been pretty awful every slow step of the way. So own up, who’s been hiding my endorphin rush?

I stagger on thinking ‘come on Laura love, it must be the last minute by now’, and I grit my teeth and keep on going. I’m reasonably sure I will make it to 8 minutes. But I cannot think how I am going to keep on from 8 minutes to 20.

Are we all absolutely sure it’s not a typo, and really W5R3 is 10 minutes and a cup of tea?

chaosisaladder · 12/05/2019 20:56

nomnom that’s my run tomorrow and I feel the same as you - feels like it’s going to be impossible!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 12/05/2019 20:58

I'm a member of a C25K group on FB and a surprising number of people have managed W5R3 this week. You guys can do it!

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 12/05/2019 20:59

Good luck chaos. If the power of positive thought is effective (wow! energy crisis solved) then I’m sending you masses of positive thoughts for tomorrow.

chaosisaladder · 12/05/2019 21:00

Thank you mygast and nomnom - I needed that encouragement because I’ve been talking myself out of it 😂

I shall report back tomorrow!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 12/05/2019 21:11

Go for it @chaosisaladder. I'm so jealous!

gingajewel · 12/05/2019 22:16

@sanityisamyth Thankyou for your words of encouragement, I shall carry on plodding along at my own pace, hoping someday soon it will get easier hahaha

sukiandthekettle · 12/05/2019 23:09

NomNom, like Fazackerley said, once you get to running for most of the run it's easier than you imagine - the constant "is it 5 mins/8 mins/is my walk time really nearly over" and glancing at the watch really gets in the way. I'm off to do my third 25 minute run today, and I'm enjoying it more than the stop-start. Listening to music has really helped me keep going too.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 13/05/2019 08:14

Good luck today chaos

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 13/05/2019 08:20

Thanks for the tip fazackerly and suki. I gave up on listening to stuff because the earphones kept falling out and being a hindrance. I figured Laura speaking up now and again was not such a disturbance that it was anti-social to ditch the wires. Maybe I’ll try again.

chaosisaladder · 13/05/2019 09:43

mygast wishing you a speedy recovery Flowers

Thank you nomnom - I did it! I actually did it. Took it reallllllly easy at points but I did it!

sukiandthekettle · 13/05/2019 10:17

Was feeling so confident but just really really struggled with W7R2, day before period due so maybe that's it. Looked at watch thinking I must be coming up to 25 mins... I was only 14 mins in! 😫

I've never been able to get headphones to work with my ears, but I have these and so far they've been brilliant - never fallen out: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Headphones-Wireless-Earphones-Waterproof-black-Purple/dp/B07CLVH3V5/ref=sr11fkmrnull1?keywords=hbuds+purple&qid=1557738629&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmrnull

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 13/05/2019 12:34

chaos that is brilliant! Fantastically well done! How did you manage it?

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 13/05/2019 13:21

suki thanks for the link. Hope you feel stalwart again soon.
