Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Hi, can I join you all?

I've just done my first run using the couch 2 5k app! It was ok, started hurting towards the end so one of the later runs got cut a bit short.
I'm hoping that by joining you, it will make me accountable for the runs I complete and reading through the thread is giving me great advice.

Feeling proud of myself for starting it, but realising how bloody unfit I am! Smile and Confused

somersetmum2018 · 13/05/2019 21:54

I’m into week 2 and I’m surprised by how much I’m enjoying it so far! But my knees are starting to hurt. My trainers are pretty old so I was wondering if they might not be absorbing the impact properly?

chaosisaladder · 13/05/2019 22:55

nomnom I just took it by each minute after the 10 minute mark... plus I’d told DH I was going to do it so I had to Grin saving face and all that. I’m so pleased!

somerset definitely get some new trainers if you can! I need to find a new pair too. Has anyone got any recommendations?

sukiandthekettle · 14/05/2019 00:04

Good going chaos - that first 20 is a big breakthrough!

I love these trainers - have had them for 6 months with no issues whatsoever. They come up quite small and are a slim fit. Getting the inner 'sock' on is almost like getting a wetsuit on, but once they're on they are supportive, cushioned and virtually unnoticeable. I'm normally a 5/5.5 and take a 6 in these.

CurlsandCurves · 14/05/2019 07:56

@somerset if you can, get yourself to a ‘proper’ running shop for trainers. They’ll be able to advise you on your stance and gait and give you the right footwear to try. My new trainers have made such a difference. Yesterday I was able to do my run and then do an hours dance class in them!

I only ran once last week so this week I’m repeating week 4 (again) and then I’m definitely moving on to week 5. Did run 1 yesterday and it felt really comfortable so I’m taking that as a good sign.

Well done on the 20 mins chaos ! I’ve been putting it off, it’s like a big psychological barrier looming ahead of me. But then again so was the thought of running for 3 and 5 minutes, so I WILL tackle it next week.

MissingPanda · 14/05/2019 10:00

Congratulations @chaos, well done. Agree with pp that 20 mins is a psychological barrier.

@curls you have my admiration that you can do a run and a dance class.

Today I completed wk5 r2 although how I managed even to get started I don't know. Woke up and realised I'd forgot to charge my phone and the battery was on red so had to wait for that. Then as I was getting ready I remembered I'd bought new headphones yesterday. The wireless ones that have to be charged and, yes, you've guessed it I forgot to charge them Blush so I had to use my old ones which are only working in one ear. Gets halfway through my warm up walk and realise I'm still wearing my reading glasses. Luckily I was able to fit them in the pocket in my running leggings so I didn't have to come back with them.

I'm thinking I may just repeat r2 next time, although I said that about r1 and repeating a wk4 run and didn't so we'll see.

VeniVidiViciTwice · 14/05/2019 11:10

I've just done W2R1, 90 seconds was hard but I made it 😂. I am really struggling with my shins and my knee though, probably because I am heavily overweight (obese bmi) and not very active normally. I'm sure it will settle soon though.

sanityisamyth · 14/05/2019 11:23

Just come back from a repeat of W5R1. Found it quite hard work but I've had some sporadic runs due to school holidays and colds but dreading W5R3 on Saturday. Tell me it's manageable?!

NutBiscuit · 14/05/2019 12:06

Well done to everyone getting 20 mins under their belts!!
I managed W3R1 last night and it was surprisingly much easier than I had anticipated. Gives me hope for the rest if the plan for now

MissingPanda · 14/05/2019 12:54

@sanityisamyth it's manageable. It's has to be, other people have managed it. Not me I hasten to add.

@NutBiscuit glad you found it easier than expected. I always find it makes me feel more confident that I can do it when I have a good run.

NomNomNominativeDeterminism · 14/05/2019 13:00

VVVTwice well done! I pretty much thought I was going to collapse in week 1 and it was the outrage at the thought of wasting that effort that pushed me on to week 2 and 90 seconds.

But I’d be really careful with your knees. My hip hurt in week 2 and I didn’t run again till I’d got some proper running shoes. And now I don’t think I’d run until whatever part of me had stopped hurting. I’m a bit overweight and spectacularly unfit.

AlmaWhittaker · 14/05/2019 13:51

Well done everyone.

@NutBiscuit I'm at exactly the same stage as you did w3r1 today and was also pleasantly surprised that I managed easily enough. So motivated to keep going.

So far I've been running every 2nd day and haven't taken 2 days off yet so 6_day weeks. That won't matter will it? Or should I really stick to the programme?

Love this thread, it's got me out of lurking Grin

gingajewel · 14/05/2019 15:11

So I bit the bullet and instead of repeating week 3 like I had planned, started week 4. I won’t beat any records for how slow I was going, but I did it and feel on top of cloud nine at the moment!! I really need to invest in some leggings that don’t fall down every 2 minutes though!!

chaosisaladder · 14/05/2019 18:33

Love reading these. Well done to everyone - it’s such a big deal. I hype it up to everyone - even though my pace is suuuuper slow right now! I’ll get there.

Tomorrow is W6R1. Week 6! Who am I?! 😂

chaosisaladder · 14/05/2019 18:34

Thank you for the trainer rec suki!

Pardalis · 14/05/2019 21:09

W7R1 done! I can't believe I've got this far and still enjoying it. I feel really positive about completing. Slightly worried about what to do next. Need the structure of a programme

MyGastIsFlabbered · 14/05/2019 21:56

I'm seeing a physio on Friday. Really hoping to get my ankles sorted so I can get out there again. I'm so envious of you all. Never thought I'd say that.

Pardalis · 14/05/2019 22:13

Oh, and for all of you in the earlier weeks - keep going and trust the programme. I am fat - it's an effort to drag my weight around but I've got through. That week 5 is a game changer. Don't be scared of the 20 mins!

The only think I've done different is to run 4 times a week. I repeat the last run of the week. My new week always starts on a Monday - I may not run on the Monday but I count it as my transition.

I sometimes take more than one day off and I sometimes run 3 days in a row. I do what fits into my life and work and as long as I feel good and enthusiastic

whistlingkettle · 14/05/2019 22:13

Does anyone have any suggestions of music to run to please

Pardalis · 14/05/2019 22:14

And I've lost weight btw. Cut down sugar. Cut down wine (slightly but hey, we can't do it all at once)

AlmaWhittaker · 14/05/2019 23:17

@Pardalis good to hear your schedule, think I'll follow the principle that if it feels right then its OK.

Fingers crossed @MyGastIsFlabbered that you'll be back soon

Pardalis · 14/05/2019 23:44

@whistlingkettle - classic pop!

Although tonight I ran to a podcast and really enjoyed it. Helped keep my mind focussed on one thing and my body on another

CurlsandCurves · 15/05/2019 07:58

@Pardalis I’m listening to podcasts as well. Current fave is #Nailedit by blogger Tova Leigh and her husband, so funny.

swimmingdory · 15/05/2019 09:30

Week 4 complete. Little scared of week 5.

Pardalis · 15/05/2019 11:11

@CurlsandCurves - I will check it out!
