Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Hello! Can I join? I have just done W2 R2 today. Started this last year and only got this far, so if I manage run 3 this week it'll be a new PB for me in C25K Grin.
Can anyone advise on headphones? I am using my normal phone headphones but the earbuds fall out all the time and the wire drives me mad.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 09/05/2019 16:26

I'm so upset. For the last week I've been having trouble with my ankles hurting after a run. This week has been particularly bad, such that I could barely walk. I really want to carry on training..,and I never thought I'd say that...but I daren't risk damaging them further.

They were much better this morning, so much that I thought I could run this weekend, but I've got back from the school run and I'm in agony-my ankles are swollen and so painful.

I'm gutted, I was just starting to really enjoy this.

CurlsandCurves · 09/05/2019 19:55

Hi Nutbiscuit welcome!

My GastIsFlabbered that does not sound good. I’d get to the doctors if I were you, swelling like that does not sound like a normal side effect of running. There might be something underlying that can be sorted. Don’t take any risks.

I really feel for you. I was totally out of action for over 3 months with plantar fasciitis last year, so frustrating.

sanityisamyth · 10/05/2019 09:11

@MyGastIsFlabbered that's not good about the ankles. Is it worth seeing a physio so they can have a look. You might need to change how you run so there's less stress on certain muscles/ligaments etc. Don't give up! You're doing so well! X

MyGastIsFlabbered · 10/05/2019 09:42

I'm not giving up completely but am being sensible and resting them until they're better. Will see my GP if they're still bad next week. I bought proper running shoes last weekend so will see if they help once I'm up and running again. I've really got the bug and am so cross. Never thought I'd feel like this.

sanityisamyth · 10/05/2019 11:29

@MyGastIsFlabbered it's mad isn't it!! I never thought I'd feel like it either but I managed to repeat W5R2 this morning (8-5-8) as I've had nearly a week off. Feel like I've achieved something today!!

I hope you get fixed soon and get back up and running again 🤞

Fazackerley · 10/05/2019 11:45

gast take a week off, change your trainers and try again on soft ground next week.

I need a kick up the arse.

I've done one run this week and it went terribly. I have promised I'll do parkrun with ds and dh tomorrow. Dh is brilliant at running and ds is pretty good but a bit reluctant which is why ive said I'll go ("look if even i can get round youll be brilliant!" Etc etc

But i dont want to go, im scared! I think I'll be worse than last week, i feel fat, shit and embarrassed that i thought that i could do this.

Pardalis · 10/05/2019 21:03

After a few days off to rest a twingy knee I just did W6R2. It was fab. I even went a bit faster on the second run. Top speed 7.5 miles per hour! Ha ha
Feel ready for the 25 mins now

Pardalis · 10/05/2019 21:04

@Fazackerley - you CAN do it.

I'm going to brave parkrun soon. I even may have a running buddy

chaosisaladder · 11/05/2019 10:19

Hope everyone is getting on okay.

I did w5r2 today - doing the 2x 8 min runs has really tired me out!

Cannot imagine doing the 20 min run on Monday. I really don’t see how I’m going to manage!

Fazackerley · 11/05/2019 10:56

I did it. It honestly nearly killed me, well the last 1k did. I walked the first 5 mins with laura then ran 35 mins. Laura told me to walk after 30 mins running but i ignored her Grin Think i was about 40 mins.

Pardalis · 11/05/2019 10:57

Whoop! Well done!!!

Fazackerley · 11/05/2019 10:58

My new phone kept cutting out which was super annoying. Have to try and sort that. My plan for next week is to do two week 9 runs of 30 mins, one on tues and one on thurs then give park run another go.

NutBiscuit · 11/05/2019 12:47

Just finished week 2!! Not looking forward to running for 3 minutes on Monday

JPduck · 11/05/2019 13:31

Well done @NutBiscuit ... I've just done my first 25 min runs, am amazed I can do it.

@NutBiscuit - you can do it - believe in the programme, 👍🏻🏃🏼‍♀️

MissingPanda · 11/05/2019 15:35

@Fazackerly well done 🎉🥇🏆

@Nutbiscuit well done on completing wk2. You'll be fine...just keep going. You can do it!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

MissingPanda · 11/05/2019 15:37

Oops @JPDuck didn't mean to miss you out. Well done on running the 25 minutes 😊🏃

AlmaWhittaker · 11/05/2019 17:20

Nutbiscuit, you're 1 step ahead of me, planning w2r3 tomorrow. We can do it Smile I'm so scared that if I miss a day ill lose all interest but so far so good

VeniVidiViciTwice · 11/05/2019 17:41

A bit late to the party but hope it's OK to join. I've done w1r1 and w1r2 and will be doing w1r2 tomorrow. Going to go back and read through the thread fully now!

sanityisamyth · 11/05/2019 19:23

@Fazackerley well done! I'm tempted to attempt a 5K as part of my C25K but worried that if I do the 5 minute walk at the start of the course that I'll be the only one left there and look like a prat! How many people were walking the first bit with you? (If I've understood it correctly!)

Pardalis · 11/05/2019 21:15

W6R3 done! 25 mins and I loved it! Can't believe I can

sanityisamyth · 11/05/2019 21:17

That's amazing!!! Well done 👏👏👏

crumpet · 11/05/2019 21:23

Sanity, can you park your car a bit further away and use the distance to do the warm up/ down walks?

Fazackerley · 12/05/2019 00:25

sanity yes everyone bombs off but i was left with the walkers! And then overtook lots once i started running. It's fine.

sanityisamyth · 12/05/2019 02:45

@crumpet not sure. Maybe! I haven't actually done one. I'm going to get a bit further through C25K (W5R2 at the moment) before I try a parkrun but don't want to make a tit of myself!!

@Fazackerley that is very good to know - thank you, and well done!!
