Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

I bought a treadmill back in February and decided to do c210k on a 12 week plan. I went from struggling to run for 1 minute, to yesterday, running for 60 minutes! I managed just over 7km in that time so I’m not quite at 10K yet but I’m getting there. I have also joined slimming world and I’m 21lbs down.

somersetmum2018 · 01/05/2019 11:05

Hi all! Can I join please? I’m going to start C25K this weekend and I’m really nervous - I’ve followed running plans before but always got stuck around week 4, when it starts to get a bit harder. I’m hoping that joining here will give me some inspiration and motivation! Gave birth to my little boy 7 months ago so I need something fairly structured to get me back into exercising regularly.

Electrocute1980 · 01/05/2019 14:36

W1R2 done, it was fab! I got new insoles for my trainers as I have flat feet so had some foot pain after Monday's run - what a difference they made! Well done everyone else who is running today!

CurlsandCurves · 01/05/2019 19:58

I run after the school run. But I go home first and wait till everyone’s finished walking home so I’m not seen by too many people, lol.

My friend is a week ahead of me and dreading doing 20 mins straight on Friday. So any ‘honestly it’s fine’ stories would be great for me to pass on to her!

One thing I have spent money on is decent trainers from a running shop. Apart from that I’m just wearing what I’d normally wear to an exercise class. My phone goes in the pouch of my hoodie but I need to get an armband I think for when it gets warmer. I’ve got a grippy bottle which is great, really useful. Thinking I could do with something water resistant for bad weather.

Where does everyone put their house keys?

sanityisamyth · 01/05/2019 20:28

I take my house key on a lanyard around my neck.

MissingPanda · 01/05/2019 20:45

My keys go in the pocket of my leggings. I carry my phone in my hand.

I run in the morning for the same reasons as a pp.

I'm doing my next run tomorrow but am thinking of repeating a run from wk3. I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

JPduck · 01/05/2019 20:59

@AlmaWhittaker - I've just got a flip belt on recommendation from a friend who kindly let me try hers for a couple of weeks. There is loads of room for keys, phone, you can even buy water bottles to fit too.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Flipbelt-Classic-Premium-Running-Charcoal/dp/B00JF9EHFQ/ref=ascdff_B00JF9EHFQ/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=205171266866&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9137409489765228540&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=t&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006578&hvtargid=pla-314726938728&psc=1
There are other types eg with a zip. Id suggest try before you buy if you can.

AlmaWhittaker · 01/05/2019 21:39

That belt looks good. I've always walked a lot and often have the phone, keys problem so think I'll get something like that.

Love reading the updates here even if I haven't started yet

MyGastIsFlabbered · 01/05/2019 21:52

I'm so jealous of people who got to run today...wtf is wrong with me? Hmm

BedraggledBlitz · 01/05/2019 23:43

On Monday I tried w4r1 but had to cut short to collect DS from nursery. Today I tried again but sort of messed up with my phone turning off, then wanting to be running downhill during my 5 minutes but it not working out.

I think I'll try it again on Friday.

I definitely prefer to run in the morning, means I start the day positively.

I feel like my breathing is better. I used to get out of breath walking to car after work. And for daft things like reading bedtime story. I was actually very unfit!

Slippersandacuppa · 01/05/2019 23:54

Hello!

I started several weeks ago, repeated week 5 then had nearly two weeks off because of children being off school. Was dreading having lost any progress I had made but I really enjoyed today’s run! I never thought I’d say that! W6 r2. The thing that has made a massive difference to me is it being non-negotiable so anything I choose to do has to fit around the run.

I have attempted to like running a couple of times in the past but just jumped into it and it never got easier! Four kids later, with virtually no cardio and I decided something had to change so I’m doing this and the 30 day yoga YouTube videos too. I am one of those not built for running types!

Curls please tell your friend that the 20 minute one really isn’t that bad - and I thought that would then become the shortest run you’d do but you drop back down again after that.

Having said all that, I’m not looking to see what Friday may bring.

bedraggled I had the same bedtime story thing! Thought it was just me...

chaosisaladder · 02/05/2019 08:32

bedraggled I didn’t get to finish w4r1 the other day either and started thinking “this is it, you’ve hit a wall now, you’ll probably give up you weak shit” Grin because that has been me every time before

But I did it this morning! And I feel euphoric! It might not seem like a big deal to some but I am so proud of myself Blush I even did an extra minute after the last 5 minute run. Good luck for your next try!

What does everyone listen to (if anything) on their run? I had Katy Perry ‘Rise’ on repeat today - she’s not my favourite but that song gets me going!

MissingPanda · 02/05/2019 08:36

Feeling really pleased with myself Grin I decided to do an extra run of wk3 before starting wk4. I felt so good when i came to the end that I decided to add an extra minute onto my run. I ended up running the full 5 minutes of the warm down walk so ran 8 minutes in total.

sukiandthekettle · 02/05/2019 09:15

@CurlsandCurves I did the 20 minute run 2 days ago and it was actually fine! In fact I did wk6 run 1 this morning, feeling full of confidence after my non-stop 20 mins, and I really struggled! No idea why (today's run was W5, R5, W3, R8, W3, R5). This is the first run I haven't enjoyed Hmm

I'm new here - nice to connect with some other C25Kers! I was reading up on how to go from 5K to half marathon earlier... getting waaaay ahead of myself! Grin

MissingPanda · 02/05/2019 09:54

@chaosisaladder you sneaked in ahead of me there. Well done on completing wk4 r1.

I listen to a 80s album on Spotify.

@sukiandthekettle welcome

chaosisaladder · 02/05/2019 11:59

@missingpanda well done to you!

@sukiandthekettle thanks for the inspo - I’m wondering how on earth I'm going to manage a 20 minute run!

BedraggledBlitz · 02/05/2019 14:29

Hooray @chaos, well done!

I have a spotify playlist I keep adding to. Mostly slowish but upbeat songs that are quite new to me so I look forward to listening to them. Love spotify.

chaosisaladder · 02/05/2019 14:55

@bedraggledblitz thank you! Thinking of going for another run tomorrow because it will be more convenient than the weekend but it’s probably a bad idea.

I did try listening to a podcast but it wasn’t motivating enough! I guess I’ll give Spotify a try as Apple Music just has the same music on all the playlists imo

JPduck · 02/05/2019 15:26

@sukiandthekettle - I was exactly the same, hated wk6 R1& 2 which I did last week so didn't bother with r3.
So this week I've repeated R1 and 2 and ran comfortably & surprisingly. Feel confident to do R3 now.
I don't look at the programme in weeks now, just steps as other wise I'd be dispondent to not complete in 9 weeks. I'm currently doing wk6 in my 8th week of this journey.
You can do it!

AlmaWhittaker · 02/05/2019 16:50

W1R1 done. So pleased with myself. My main aim is to do some cardio so day 1 is in the bag 😊

JPduck · 02/05/2019 17:39

Well done @AlmaWhittaker 🎉🎉🎉🍾🍾

chaosisaladder · 02/05/2019 18:02

Well done alma!

franklymydearidontgivea · 02/05/2019 18:11

Please may I join you. I did wk2r1 today, it felt like hard work. I'm lucky in that I have a running machine, so I won't have to endure any fat shaming by running in public 😯 for now. It's stupid, I know I can do this, I've done it before but reaching 50, starting menopause and putting on a shed load of weight it feels so much harder....I know I need to lose weight, one of my drs wrote and told me so.... I'm keeping c25k to myself in rl for a while, but a bit or moral support would be so appreciated Grin

MyGastIsFlabbered · 02/05/2019 19:09

Well done Alma. You've got started which is the hardest bit! Just did W4 R2 and managed to run in all the parts I was supposed to. Even felt myself speeding up at times. I'm in real danger of becoming a running bore
