Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

Busterthebulldog the code is HPS19INS
For £6.75 every 3 months. I wasn't sure I would like it in comparison to Runners World but have been very pleasantly surprised.
To call it's 01371 853609, I couldn't get the code to work properly online so called instead.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2019 09:50

I've not been able to run for a week - stupid injury :( I'm getting really concerned about my HM next month.
I tried today, but I'm back to being really sore.

emummy · 07/02/2019 11:48

Tempo run this morning, dodging patches of ice.
kitten I'm so sorry, what a nightmare. What was your injury again?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2019 12:14

It's inside my groin/hip. I don't know what I've done to it, but even with a weeks rest, antinflammatories and stretching/rollering it's still painful during the run all the way into my knee and walking afterwards has me limping. It feels all unstable.

It seemed to start when I tried to run through the virus early last week.
I'm seeing a sports physio next week at the first appt they can get me in to. Wish they could see me this week. I'm desperate to get back to it.

emummy · 07/02/2019 15:23

That sounds horrible, hope the physio can help.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/02/2019 18:23

Thank you. Me too.

emummy · 09/02/2019 15:43

Tailwalking at our inaugural parkrun today, it went great! Lovely weather, good turn out but not overwhelming, a good day all round.

IRun4Me · 09/02/2019 18:01

Well done on the inaugural park run. Glad it went well.
Have been out 3 times this week but very short ones as I’ve got a sore ankle, not sure what I’ve done. But have half at the end of March so don’t want to push it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2019 18:20

That sounds perfect emummy!

Sorry to hear about your ankle IRun

Alex3101 · 10/02/2019 10:07

I did my 2nd Trail Half of the year yesterday at Afan Forest Park in South Wales. 520 metres of climbing, 15 minutes quicker than the half I did in January.
I can also add a park run on to the total so that's

Well done Alex great result! Sounds like a tough race.
Long run in beautiful sunshine this morning along quiet country roads.

Well done Alex on the trail run. How did you find it?
I did a few miles on my own in the week and 9.5 with a local running club this morning. It nearly finished me off but I'm feeling epic now (safely on the sofa, showered and scoffing)🙄

TriSkiRun99 · 10/02/2019 13:55

Half Marathon done yah!!! Brutal headwind (twice as 2laps), ankle deep multiple muddy puddles and rain showers sideways but smashed my time goal Smile very glad I have a sports massage booked tom though!

Well done on the trail HM & glad your PR went wellemummy. I was marshalling at ours and it was SO windy & cold.

@Topsyturvey10 it was a good course and I enjoyed it. The 1st 7km were a bit hard going I couldn't get into any rhythm and I was hot. (Shorts, Ls baselayer and a short sleeve) I ate a bit late as well so that didn't help. At 7km there was a hail shower for 5 minutes so I cooled down and from then on I was much improved. The final climb was tough 174 metres gained in 2km, I caught and passed 10 people in the final 500m so finished strongly.

Topsyturvey10 · 10/02/2019 21:14

👏👏👏 Well done. Sounds like you had a good run.

I always struggle with clothing for a run and someone told me to dress for the second mile not the first. I have started to wear a gilet now with pockets for tissues and a phone, worn over a LS top and this seems to work better.

Along with a cap after catching sight of the sweaty hair thing I had going on. I am not a glamorous runner with my beetroot face and wet, straggly hair.

emummy · 12/02/2019 13:09

Mixed pace run this morning, so mild! Lovely not to worry about ice. Well done one your half TriSkiRun! Sounds tough and you had a great result!

BusterTheBulldog · 13/02/2019 09:17

Dropped off this thread a little- thanks for the code topsyturvey10!

Glad the parkrun went well emummy- what an achievement!

Did you manage to see physio ohyoubadkitten I know how frustrating it is with an injury like that!

35.1 miles since my last post including a half marathon at the Olympic Park in London on sun. Crazy course, lots of sharp up and downs and hairpin bends. At one point there were 4 lanes of runners going in different directions- made me feel a bit queasy! Was test run really to see how far off my fast pace I was, tried not to look at watch and needed up only being 20secs off Pb, now wish I’d looked at watch more!

IRun4Me · 13/02/2019 09:23

Still can’t run due to foot/ankle. I think it’s from a bad sprain years ago which occasionally twinges but never this bad. Think old age catching up Shock I was late for school pick up the other day and could only manage to run about 20 yards.
I’m really missing getting out there especially as the weather is perfect at the moment. Going on the spin bike to keep the fitness up but it’s not the same.
How is your hip? badkitten
Well done on all the trail runs and half marathons

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/02/2019 13:20

I've been too glum to even look at this thread. I've seen the physio. No running (and limited walking, cycling) for another week with some strengthening exercises. They are reassessing next week.

It's so shit isn't it Irun. I was running mostly for my mental health and now I've got no outlet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/02/2019 13:21

I can err on the side of melodramatic moods.

I've organised my wool stash instead of running today.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/02/2019 20:04

I'm doing my first race a week on Sunday, I'm very nervous. It's a 15km one for the stroke society. What does everyone do with regards to tapering down and resting after a run such as that, when it's a distance you do regularly and fairly comfortably? I'm not nervous about the run at btw, I'm nervous about running with actual people, with people watching.

Most people I have asked have been training specifically for a long run for charity, followed a training plan, then a fair few have literally never run again. I have been running 15kms + at least fortnightly for 6 months now, so in theory will I benefit from tapering or not, do you think?

I ran 14.5 yesterday, and I was planning 8k tomorrow, 5k hilly on Friday and another 8 on Sunday. Not sure what to do next week, and how long after until I resume normality?!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/02/2019 20:11

Kitten sorry to hear you're not able to run. I think I'd be fairly melodramatic too if it were me, but hopefully if you follow the advice you'll be back on your feet and running soon. Thanks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/02/2019 20:37

Thank you, I'm being very obedient.

I think I'd still taper a bit so you've got extra energy in the bag. I was nervous before my first race, but it was actually fine. It's going to be a long way for some so you've got an immediate advantage over them.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/02/2019 20:44

Thanks kitten. I have switched to alternate day runs anyway since January, so maybe next week I'll just do 5-6kms on alternate days (which will be helpful also as it's half term) and hope for the best!
