Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

oh! and keep an eye on next weeks weather. Some potential snow issues tuesday/wednesday.

I've decided I don't want snow this winter thank you very much.

emummy · 25/01/2019 14:48

I use Vaseline to prevent chafing. Keeping an eye on that weather forecast, not really wanting snow & ice!

TriSkiRun99 · 25/01/2019 18:07

Sudacream is fab if it’s sore, and Vaseline to prevent. I smear Vaseline around arm holes & bra band for runs over 45mins and it helps.

Thanks for the tip to look at kinetic revolution I’ve found a few strength exercises on there that I’ve not seen before.

Ooh I have a half on 10th and last year we had sleet doing it, brrrr then the Bath one was cancelled when the heavy snow hit. Hopefully the weather won’t be too bad.

Ran 5k earlier but was real effort just had zero energy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2019 19:30

Bother should have picked up some sudacrem! Thanks for the tips though. Isn't vaseline a bit gooey?

I can't believe how zingy I feel, I did a bit of running in the summer but nothing like this level then was poorly. Started again in earnest last month and it feels amazing this week. I can see why people get hooked.

Alex3101 · 26/01/2019 08:04

@Topsyturvey10 this just popped up on my Facebook feed, Salomon trail running festivals. They have workshops, guided runs, demos etc plus music.

Topsyturvey10 · 26/01/2019 08:07

Alex3101 thanks very much. I am just studying Salomon Speedcross shoes before going out for a run. Will have a look now...

emummy · 26/01/2019 10:47

Slightly damp run today, fartlek session through town & in the woods. Misjudged a step and landed ankle deep in a very cold puddle!

661 including kitten's and TriSkiRun's miles

IRun4Me · 26/01/2019 11:06

Sorry not been on this thread for a week but am still running everyday.
Getting very jealous of all the talk of trail running but am so in the wrong part of the country. My off road runs consist of the edge of a muddy farmers field or alongside a nice drainage ditch (which the spaniel loves) all very flat and muddy.
Definitely agree on the Vaseline and sudocrem advice. Fingers crossed I’ve only suffered once with the top of my arms rubbing against my top but that was sore enough.
Hope the foot has dried emummy I hate getting one wet foot especially if it’s at the beginning of a run.

8km in HR zone 2 today, on and off-road.
I can add 40 miles onto the total so we are at

Did a muddy run this morning and will be pleased when the trail shoes arrive, I slide all over the place in the mud.

Typically the Salomon run festival is the same day as the half marathon. How typical is that😬

I have applied for a local 10miler with my friend too, it's flat and road but still, 10 miles will be a decent distance to practice for the half.

Daisydoesnt · 26/01/2019 18:35

Hi all I've been off the thread for ten days or so but I'm still plugging away - did a long run yesterday of 15km (I'm still just adding 1km to my long run). Felt pretty good actually! I noticed a bit earlier up the thread a PP nominated fruit pastilles for "food to take on long runs". Great shout, thank you for that! I love fruit pastilles and I can imagine they won't get to sticky even in my pocket at the end of the run.

FATEdestiny · 26/01/2019 18:54

25km / 15.5 miles long run for me today.

I planned the route for two toilet breaks, just to make sure. Didn't feel I needed a wee for either but went anyway. So no embarrassing lady accidents today. I think the water infection had passed anyway.

I took Dextrose tabs for my long run. We have them in for my competitive swimmer children. Today I took one at 15km and when I didn't feel it was helping took another at 18km. With hindsight I needed to allow the first one half an hour to get in my blood stream. By 21km I was fine and could have gone longer than 25km. I should have taken the first earlier or just powered through until it hit my blood stream.

Dextrose were easy to eat on the run, dissolved in the mouth easily with a quick chop. Tasted ok and not too sweet for my taste. I shall use them again.

(including my runs from yesterday and today)

Hoopaloop · 26/01/2019 19:00

Not tried dextrose tablets for running before. I have a box of gels I'm trying to use up but they are absolutely grim. I had to use one at around 13km today them tried eating a Naked bar which was dry as hell and I couldn't swallow it.

TriSkiRun99 · 26/01/2019 22:29

Ooh I need to try the dextrose tablets I’d forgotten about them, I don’t like gels too sticky.
ParkRun this morning with my youngest DD so bit walk/sprint approach she has...we keep trying to teach her to pace herself think she is slowly getting there but I find it really hard to run with her as it’s normally flat out sprinting hard (I can barely keep up!) or walking & moaning at me Grin Then she asks can she do again next week?! Her reward is a sausage sarnie Smile

755 as we did bit more than PR.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/01/2019 00:38

sorry, I forgot to add my miles and my snack feedback in my triumphant posting.
I tried jelly babies. Definitely more sugar and more pow! than fruit pastilles, but they did get a bit sticky and damp in my pocket.

emummy · 27/01/2019 10:54

Ridiculously cold & wet run this morning! Rain, sleet, snow, gale force winds, huge puddles, no fun at all. Buff & waterproof saved the day, but I do wish I'd put on my waterproof socks. Heading for long hot shower now, making dh walk the dog today!

Daisydoesnt · 27/01/2019 11:27

TriSkiRun99 I am so amused by your description of your daughter at Parkrun - I think you need to look at the flat out sprinting or walking & moaning as a form of interval training!! Grin

IRun4Me · 27/01/2019 11:46

I help with a running club for 8-11 year olds and we really work on pacing as they are so rubbish at it initially. They actually grasp quite quickly which of their peers to run with as a pacemaker and that whilst they are competing with others their main competitor is themselves. We also do try and vary the distance and they can see that one person may be quick at sprinting but slower over a longer distance.
But saying that if my son runs with me his pacing goes to pot HmmGrin

Only did 4.9m this morning but it was the muddiest trail run ever with 3 mahoosive hills. It's starting to dawn on me that a trail half marathon is going to be tough😱 I can only hope there is no mud like today, even the trainers have gone through the washing machine.

BusterTheBulldog · 28/01/2019 10:15

Wasn’t feeling park run on sat but just took it easy, actually really enjoyed trotting around and chatting rather than not being able to breathe for a change!

Did a 13mile in that horrible wind yesterday on a VERY hilly route. My hips are acheing today, and I feel like I’ve got wind chafe on my thighs!

800.1

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2019 11:21

I'm fighting off a bug and tried to run away this morning, about half a mile in I was feeling so rubbish I had to concede defeat and burst into tears Confused I honestly thought that if I just tried I'd be able to run through it.

emummy · 28/01/2019 12:44

Oh no! Get some rest; it takes will power but if you can listen to your body & take it easy you'll recover quicker. Hope you feel better soon
