Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

Hi I'm new to this thread

My question is, is there anything similar to C25K for progression or just to help me maintain the 5 k runs?

I started c25k in August, completed it and then promptly stopped.
I found I wasn't motivated without the gradual build up, the goals and the accompanying voice.

So I started again about a month ago at week 3, and all has been good,
I'm running week 7 now and hoping someone here can point me in the direction of what to do next from your knowledge and experience.

Thanks in advance.

I think there are various podcasts to Increase from 5km to 10km, but I've not used them myself.

Topsyturvey10 · 08/01/2019 15:03

I really struggle to run on my own, even with music/podcasts etc. I am way better if I run with others, I will run quicker and twice as far.

Do you have any local clubs? Lots now have FB pages to arrange runs specifying pace and distance.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/01/2019 16:13

I have never joined our running clubs locally, they are too fast for me! I do most of my running, certainly my 5km + running on my own.

If you have a parkrun near you you could join their Facebook page? Ours has 500 members, there's bound to be running buddies on there who are looking for someone to run with locally?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/01/2019 16:15

Sorry just realised I thought topsy's post was your reply!
-please excuse me, I'm delirious with norovirus at the moment!-

Sirzy · 08/01/2019 16:17

There is a couch to 5k program.

I am lucky my running club does a variety of groups from super speedy down to 13 min plus miles so something for everyone. Best motivation for me.

I have just done 2.5 miles with ds post school

Sirzy · 08/01/2019 16:26

Couch to 10k not 5!

SkiMum99 · 08/01/2019 20:45

Try the nhs podcasts 5k+ speed and stamina they may help you build on the C25k programme.

I’m missing my running out of action with a virus Sad at the moment.

BusterTheBulldog · 08/01/2019 21:54

8.5 at club run for me today, first one back since pre Christmas, found it pretty tough!

mmmgoats · 08/01/2019 21:59

Some great runs here well done!
I’ve not been today but did a short weights workout after a two week break and boy do I feel it. Can normally do an hour minimum had to lower my weight and finished after 40 minutes!
oh well

Rest day tomorrow then running again Thursday hopefully

IRun4Me · 09/01/2019 20:37

Adding my miles since Saturday (the parts of miles on the thread are testing my maths Grin)
I used to always run in the morning and prefer it but have had to do more evening running over recent times. I went this morning and I now realise it’s easier in the morning but for my sanity it’s better in the evening - half an hour or more of peace and quiet!!

Added my miles from joining up with a local club last night. The first time I have run with a club for years and enjoyed it - quicker than I have been in ages tooSmile

I am not sure I will join yet as there are a few more local ones I might try out then decide.

emummy Thanks for the recommendation, I got Women's Running magazine today and it's great.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/01/2019 21:54

I've done 11k so far this week. LR is friday.

A quick one in the cold this morning. I find the icy air really impedes my stamina, does anyone else find that? It's probably just because it's sharp cold air coming into my chest maybe? I also noticed today that I have a little irritating cough when I run, I constantly clear my throat- and realise I probably have done this for months?? Is that normal? I wonder if I have a mild asthma-type condition going on?

Daisydoesnt · 10/01/2019 20:14

Yes newaverage I agree taking great lungfuls of icy air doesn't feel great, although I keep telling myself it's better than running in the heat.

I did my 5km road race last night and beat my PB by 34 secs so now down to 28.26. Feeling quietly pleased with myself although I was right, right at the back of the field, although not actually last. How do some people run so FAST???

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/01/2019 20:30

Daisy I know, I think the same. I mean, I'm no Paula Radcliffe but I'm pretty fit now, I certainly put the work in- and yet some people just whizz past me! I think a bit of it comes down to leg length, and therefore stride, plus at our park run it's very often men who are fastest.
(But then sometimes I do a really fast run, for me at least, and realise that I don't always exert myself that much every time)

emummy · 10/01/2019 20:49

bear maybe the cough is just from your throats feeling dry when you run & breathe through your mouth? On cold days a buff over your nose & mouth can help warm the air at the start of a run.
Very familiar with fast people running past! I like to think they have all been running much longer than me or are just naturally talented! Also I do think sometimes I could work harder if I was pushed more, say by a coach or running club, but on my own I prefer not to fully embrace pain!

emummy · 11/01/2019 11:50

Intervals this morning, back on my hilly forest route so lots of puffing and panting! Good training for hilly half though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/01/2019 12:23

Just been for gait analysis at a proper running shop, I think I've been wearing the wrong trainers for a while. The guy said I have neutral pronation but because my knees go in at the middle that's what's causing my general aches and pains. I've been prescribed a nice new pair of Hoka (sp?) and they weren't even the most expensive. I'd tentatively accepted £150, but they were actually £110. Looking forward to my run tomorrow now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2019 13:46

I hope it helps Bear!

The cold definitely slows me down to start with, my muscles feel quite stiff.

Just a heads up that many areas could see snow from next weekend on through the following week though the south may not see much at least for a while. Might be worth planning accordingly.

I managed a 8.7mile run this morning. Further than I'd mapped, but my longest so far. It was quite hard work, but I don't feel too bad. Got a bit bored, need to find a book to download on to my phone.
I'm pretty chuffed :)

emummy · 11/01/2019 16:48

Well done kitten! Pretending not to notice the possible snow forecast, still have nightmares about long marathon training runs in 6in of snow last year...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2019 17:32

yeah, I'm not looking forward to that possibility. Is it possible to run in yaktrax?

emummy · 11/01/2019 18:08

Yes, you can use the normal Ines or get specific running ones. I find my trail shoes were good on their own unless the snow is very soft when the yaktrax help stop slipping

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/01/2019 18:34

Oooh it will be treadmill for me if the snow comes, I'm hoping we don't get any!
