I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.

Interval run in the chilly sunshine this morning

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2019 13:21

I rewrote a training plan I found on the net to suit my own schedule. I've now got a colour coded plan on my wall and feel better.

Longest run is 11m. I've one 40-60 min easy, one 5k tempo, one LR, one cross training day and one strength session each week. Does that sound right?

emummy · 04/01/2019 16:02

Sounds great kitten, you will be fine for your half. Good to see strength training in there!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/01/2019 17:27

Thanks to you guys for the suggestion :)

I've gone for one of the nike plus app beginner strength sessions. I'm not sure if it's a good one or not. dd had a laugh seeing me attempt some of the stuff. It also has a yoga post run cool down that looks helpful.

SkiMum99 · 04/01/2019 18:00

Another two 5ks to add. Still struggling abit with coldiee feeling with bit of cough grrr but liking the crisp fresh air at the moment. Using RED January to motivate me.

A lovely run today, probably the best and most enjoyable long run I have ever had. Cold, sunny, still, and my legs felt great!! I did my newish 12k route and beat my previous time by 3 minutes; I can't have been trying properly the first time. Grin

I am still a bit of a plodder, and though I know I must focus on increasing my distance at the mo (aiming for first HM in March) I really would love to get my 10k to sub-60 (even if by 1 second!!)

My 10k today was 1.01.32, but then my 5k PB is 29 mins exactly., and I know at the moment I can't sustain that pace for the full 10k. Can I ask you lovely lot with sub-60 10ks, what your 5k PB is? Thanks

Tomorrow I am doing an easy 5k, and then i am off to a yoga retreat for the day which I am really, really looking forward to.

AnotherOtter · 04/01/2019 19:50

Daisy, my fastest 10k is 58:32 (by myself, not a formal race) and my fastest parkrun is 24:47. I make much more of an effort at parkrun than by myself as there is something very motivating about being overtaken by 60+ year olds Grin I am not very knowledgable but I believe weight influences your times so I'll add that I am about 9st7 in case that is relevant.

Daisydoesnt · 04/01/2019 20:00

Thanks AnotherOtter, a very impressive ParkRun PB you have there! 24-something is in the land of dreams for me, which is a bit worrying for my longed-for sub-60 10km.

In what way does/ can weight influence times? I am a skinny mini but sadly it doesn't seem to make me any quicker.

FATEdestiny · 04/01/2019 20:41

I've only got a sub-60 10km once and that was only just, at 59m56s. My usual 10km time is around 65-70 minutes.

My 5km PB is just under 29m, usual time is around 32 minutes.

I think age also affects speed. There are "good for age" times which are quicker if you are younger (or male). I'm 42.

mmmgoats · 04/01/2019 20:45

hello can I join? For the last year I’ve been running 3- 6 times a week and managed to go from not being able to run 2k to managing 16km now.
had time off over Christmas due to being ill and I am REALLY struggling to get back into it. I want to go but it’s like I’ve got the mental barrier back - I seem to grind to a halt at 4km with total fatigue.

any tips? I so want to get back to enjoying it but I’m starting to dread it because the last few runs have been bad and a real real slog.

hello to everyone! Have loved reading through the thread.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2019 20:45

My fastest 10km is about 56, but currently I'm pleased if I'm 1.01 or thereabouts. My 5km varies from 27 to about 34 minutes. It hugely depends on the route I take, my totm and the time of day I run (optimum is mid-morning)

I've not been pushing myself recently, as I have a cranky metatarsal injury that keeps grumbling away if I push too hard. I have had a stitch a lot as well (which I think is as a result of bad diet over the whole of December), but these combined have really forced me to slow down, and as a result I think I've lost my pace a bit.

mmmgoats · 04/01/2019 20:46

Just to clarify I don’t run 16km 6 times a week 😱
I tend to do shorter runs in the week and a longer one at the weekend

Daisydoesnt · 04/01/2019 21:13

Thanks everyone for your replies, it seems maybe I am not so far off with the 10k, perhaps if I try to put it to the back of my mind & carry on with the HM training it will happen in a while. I am 48, BTW, and always seem to be mid table for my age at ParkRun! I can live with that though.

Welcome mmmgoats!! You obviously can do it if you have until recently been running up to 16k, I am sure once you have regained some of that base fitness it will get easier again.

FATEdestiny · 04/01/2019 21:19

I’ve got the mental barrier back - I seem to grind to a halt at 4km with total fatigue.

If I was in your position @mmmgoats, I would run to 2km, walk for 2-5 minutes then run again to try to get to 5km

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/01/2019 21:38

Mmmmgoats I'm the same at the moment, I feel like I'm dragging my legs and it feels like hard work. I feel like I need some new routes, and some new music to get me back on track!

emummy · 04/01/2019 22:01

Can you try some new running routes goats or just do short runs for a bit? Welcome by the way!
I am 47, been running for 5 years, my 5k pb has come down to 26:30 and my 10k to 57:08, not sure if that's as good as it will get! I think Ibwould improve more if I lost some weight but at 6ft1 there's always going to be a lot of me! And I do like a snack....

mmmgoats · 05/01/2019 01:38

hello thanks for the welcome and suggestions! I think I really need to get over that barrier so the suggestion of breaking it up with walking and perhaps trying some new routes are good ones - will try tomorrow and report back!

My fastest 10km has never gone under an hour I’m usually I hour ten mins on a good day, I don’t know if I will ever get under an hour as I seem to be built for stamina more than speed (apart from this current blip!)

Hopefully we can both get over it @thenewaveragebear83

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/01/2019 08:32

Mmmmgoats I've only been running a year, I've definitely had a few periods in that time where running has felt like a chore, like I'd lost my mojo, and I have to admit as I was previously a non-exerciser I was terrified to take a few days off in case I never started again. Now I'm a bit more confident I do think that it's my body saying to take a rest, only a couple of days. I'm going to take the weekend off, do something different instead, and hopefully return on Monday full of beans!

IRun4Me · 05/01/2019 09:43

Did a 5 miler this morning which felt good and like I’m getting my mojo back. mmmmgoats sometimes it feels hard and a chore but I try and remind myself it is my time and the next run will be easier.
In terms of faster 5 and 10k I found when I was training for longer runs my shorter runs became faster naturally, so maybe the half marathon training will help Daisy
I’m back to plodding slowly at the moment

Sirzy · 05/01/2019 12:36

Parkrun done this morning and a chair pushing pb by over a minute.

64.9

mmmgoats · 05/01/2019 12:38

Just finished a 5km run 😁😁😁 finally made it past the damn 4km. I took your advice and switched up the route and also did a power walk for 1km before I actually started running and it really seemed to help so thank you.

took it slowly as didn’t want to fade quickly but actually managed it in 33mins which I’m really chuffed with. Bloody freezing out today though, my cheeks hurt and my face is the same colour as my bright pink headband!

Sirzy · 05/01/2019 12:39

Well done mmmgoats that’s a fantasfkc time!

emummy · 05/01/2019 13:48

Well done mmmgoats!
Congrats on your pb Sirzy

mmmgoats · 05/01/2019 14:14

Thanks! Well done on your pb @sirzy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/01/2019 14:48

Well done for this mornings efforts!
