Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

Very belatedly adding my 37.5 mix of miles from the end of the month.

Echo the advice about considering a physio for injury. My uncomplicated runner's knee is completely cured with basic physio and has never felt more solid. A good physio can work magic.

I run in the morning and eat well the evening before with a carby dinner and breakfast cereal/porridge before bed (also because I need something substantial in stomach for evening medication). Then eat breakfast cereal/porridge plus tea and a pint of water three hours before leaving the house. I have been incredibly lucky with both my dodgy gut (IBS plus medication side-effects) and bladder (overactive bladder) so far and don't expect my luck to hold forever but this regime has worked so far.

Well done on all the PBs and milestones achieved too.

Oooo. Can I join. I set my 5k pb today (had DD this year so I'm still working on my fitness)! But am struggling with my legs being soooo chilly they are stiff! Any suggestions for good but not too warm running tights/leggings ? Tia. X

AnotherOtter · 31/12/2018 23:32

lokelani, I wear these Decathlon winter tights for temperatures 0-8C and they are warm without being too hot once I've got going. I've not run in colder temperatures. They seem pretty hard wearing.

IRun4Me · 01/01/2019 10:53

A short one this morning. Think I was sweating some alcohol out Grin
(I didn’t think I’d be the first to post- probably wasn’t the first to go out though!!)

I haven’t posted on this thread for ages but after a year of going backwards running I need to get focused so hopefully this will help.

Ds has a running wheelchair now so that should make getting out easier. Parkrun done this morning with him in his chair slow but faster than the last effort!

Forgot the tally

ParkRun this morning my fastest in 9months which made me Grin as I wasn’t expecting that feeling rather ropey this morning - not from NYE but fighting off my DDs cold virus thing.

Welcome back Sirzy! Good luck this year, the running wheelchair sounds great.
Welcome lokelani. Congrats on your pb! I have Ronhill winter tights for cold days, they're lovely!
I have had a cold for 2 weeks now, it was improving then got spectacularly worse on Sunday evening, so I couldn't run yesterday. Got out today powered by Sudafed! This half marathon trainnng plan has not got off to the best start! Still, nice steady run today, fingers crossed the cold will go soon.

Hilly 6k for me today, ran pretty well but it was perfect conditions cold and still!
Emummy I see your training for a HM too - do you mind me asking how many times a week do you run? And how many miles a week? TVM

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/01/2019 21:23

Yes I'd be interested too, I'm doing my first half M in April.

SkiMum99 · 02/01/2019 22:10

Nice crisp cold 5k tonight.

I’m running a half in Feb. I have a long run day normally sun or Monday where I’ve been building up distance gradually. I did a half mid-Dec and a 10miler 2 wks later. I like to do a long run 10-12m then two shorter runs mid-week then a 10k, then repeat so the 10m+ run every other week seems to be working for me as they take a lot of energy out of me when trying to fit into busy life. I need to do a hill reps session as keep ducking that 🙈and be more dillegent on my strength sessions as I’ve let those slide running upto Xmas and really felt it when I did one at the weekend.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/01/2019 07:57

I'm hoping to do 2 long runs a week, one short 'training' run like hill reps or speed, plus swim once and strength train once. I currently run 5-6 times a week but only do 5-6km on all but one of those. After next week I'll have daytime hours available as Ds goes to nursery so hopefully I can do 10kms+ on those days and a long long one at the weekend. I have run a half in training but I think I overdid it a bit and it's been the cause of my bad foot. By doing longer runs but less frequently I will be able to rest properly in between. That's the plan anyway!

Sirzy · 03/01/2019 08:21

It is great and it means if I have told him I am running then I have to because it’s not worth the consequences of notGrin

Daisydoesnt · 03/01/2019 09:11

SkiMum99 thanks for your reply that's really interesting. So if I understand you correctly, on alternate weekends your long run is 10-12miles and the next weekend its 10km? If so that means you are more or less fit to run a HM all the time? Do you ramp that up as you get a bit nearer, or do you stick to that pattern throughout? (apart from taper at the end). Thanks Smile

emummy · 03/01/2019 10:00

Nice to be kept accountable Sirzy!
I am following a plan for my half marathon, it's from Paula Radcliffe's book. I do 4 main runs a week, plus a shorts run to & from bootcamp, and I do a core exercises and strength session at home.
I do a tempo run, intervals, hill reps alternating with fartlek and a long run on a Sunday. The long run is at 10 miles just now, it will go up to 15. My mileage at the moment is 30 a week, it will go up to around 40-45. For my first half I did a longest run of 10 miles but I now prefer to run further. I find it easier following a plan, less thinking involved and I find I am more likely to do the hard workouts. In saying that, I do pay attention to how I feel and have no problem making a hard workout easier if I need to or missing a run if I'm ill.

I lost you all! Happy New Year Everyone!

1160 miles for me last year which I’m pretty pleased with considering there were injuries in there.

I am also injured at the moment Sad got a trapped nerve in my bum, having acupuncture and deep tissue massage via physio and lots of spiky ball / foam rolling at home. It’s getting better slowly but surely but I’m lost so much form and speed. I’ve also had a stinking cough and cold over Christmas which hasn’t helped. Sorry to hear you have had the lurgy too emummy, it’s really dragging! Everyone I know has had it and also had for 2-3weeks.

Started my London Marathon training plan this week too-scary!

4 miles so far for me in Jan.

18.3

BusterTheBulldog · 03/01/2019 10:15

Just saw your total for last year FATE - amazing!!!

IRun4Me · 03/01/2019 10:54

Managing to get out everyday for short runs. The RED January has definitely motivated me. Need to get myself sorted in to some proper running/training as have a half marathon in March. Not sure if it’ll be easier or harder next week when back to work/school/clubs etc
I’m impressed with people’s yearly totals and also your discipline emummy
22.7

FATEdestiny · 03/01/2019 11:11

Thank you Buster. I'm thinking of trying for 300km in RED January. It's mostly down to time rather than ability. I enjoy a 10km-15km daily run whenever I have chance, it's just a question of if I have the time to do that every day for a month. I'm not fast, but I have stamina and love the alone-time.

SkiMum99 · 03/01/2019 16:03

daisy I’ve been building back upto HM having lost all form in July/Aug due to injury. I built up to 10k then added 1-2k a week on my long run onto that till I hit 22k in Dec. I’m trying to now keep at that fitness level till Feb then I’m going to see if I can get faster Smile as I’m not speedy 2.5hrs for HM. My body doesn’t like doing 10m+ long runs every week but doing it twice a month seems to work for me Smile see what works for you and your lifestyle.

Daisydoesnt · 03/01/2019 16:18

Thanks SkiMum that sounds like a really good way of doing things. I am currently doing 10-12km for my long run and have 12 weeks till my HM so was just planning on adding a KM a week, with one easy "recovery" week, and then also another week when there's a local 12km race I want to do. Long term, yours sounds like a good way of keeping things ticking over and yes once I have my first under my belt Id too like to focus on getting faster! Thanks again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2019 16:49

I did a quick (for me) 5k this afternoon, despite having walked 24k yesterday. I really had to drag myself out and it was hard work, but I was down at 29:30.

25.7

I'm really worried I won't get up to my HM distance which is mid March. It doesn't seem that long away.

BusterTheBulldog · 03/01/2019 23:26

You’ve still got a good while ohyoubadkitten, you probably only need to go to 10 / 11 miles in training and push through on the day? My rent half marathon plan didn’t have me going longer than 10.

BusterTheBulldog · 03/01/2019 23:30

*recent

Forgot to add today’s miles, short trot out and hill reps for me.

AnotherOtter · 04/01/2019 08:04

A not quite tempo parkrun on New Year's Day as very busy (beautiful cold winter sun plus a piper!) then easy 7 miles and another 5k.

Very interesting to read everyone's routines. I've learnt so much from this thread.
