Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

screamer a gd physio should be able to help. I’ve had similar and I do Pilates and some body weight exercises like squats, lunges, plank to build strength in my glutes and rebuilding core strength is key to a strong back.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/12/2018 10:25

Really good 5km today until digestive issues meant I had to walk the last km. Angry Blush
Note to self: no beer the night before a run. How annoying!

CalmConfident · 29/12/2018 11:15

Hooray - fastest parkrun of the year !!!! Only by 1 second but am delighted Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/12/2018 12:48

Well done!

CalmConfident · 29/12/2018 13:50

Thank you BlushSmile

SkiMum99 · 29/12/2018 18:56

Park run with my daughter this morning and I helped her get a PB Smile (not for me though) and then DH took her home whilst I ran home to get 10k in total. Really please ive logged over 113k this month and plan to get another 5-10k in before months end. That’s my furthest ran in a month before.

Daisydoesnt · 29/12/2018 22:42

Hi all I’ve had a few weeks off the thread; my back was bad and I had a knee niggle so made myself have a weeks rest. Feeling much better for it and run five or six times since including today a lovely 10km, well within myself.
I am starting to build up to my first HM (end March) and would like to include in my programme some hill reps- partly because the HM will be a bit hilly and also because I have a skinny backside/ thighs and they could do with muscling up (even my physio mentioned it!!!!)
A few posters have recently mentioned hill reps and I wonder how much I should be doing? Can anyone give me a guide on how far/long/ metres climb / how many reps?? Previously I’ve run probably 600m medium incline, and then walk-jog back down. Done that four times. Plus warm up cool down.
Advice anyone? I have a feeling the HM course has a total climb of 240m with one big climb at the end so I want to be prepared for that. Thanks in advance

emummy · 30/12/2018 06:32

Basic hill reps are usually a bit shorter than 600m, although there are a lot of variations. A hill of about 100m maybe, run hard up, jog down. I usually do sets of 5, with a longer break between sets. You can also do a longer hill which you run up and down at a steady pace. If you can, for your half try and do long run routes that mimic it, so with a hill near the end.

Daisydoesnt · 30/12/2018 09:39

emummy thank you so much for your answer, much appreciated. So can I check, the idea is to run hard up 5 times up and jog back - that makes one set?? And how many sets should I be building up to?

I have checked the HM course and it is quite a bit hillier than my usual routes here - 230m ascent over the 22km (by comparison my nice 10km yesterday only had a total ascent of 55m!!) so I definitely need to find myself some hillier runs. Thanks again.

emummy · 30/12/2018 10:22

Nice long run trying out new head torch this morning, it was excellent. Finished in sunshine, lovely morning.
Daisy yes, 5 would be one set. It's really up to you depending on what you can do; so you could do 2 or 3 sets of 3 or as many sets of 5 or 6 as you can do. I was aiming for 2 sets of 5 the other day but gave up after 3 on the second set as my cold is still lingering and my breathing was all over the place! Good luck with the hilly runs, I think it really helps if you can mimic the race route in training, it gives more confidence for the day itself.
Well done on your park run PB Calm!

410.4 ( mine + calm + kitten + ski!)

SkiMum99 · 30/12/2018 10:41

Thanks for hill sets advice as I know I need to do it just can’t make myself do it...I try to run a moderate incline route once a week this includes 2x 1km slow long incline roads there is a steep hill near our house but I just can’t run fast up it or make it to the top with out a walk but it’s a good 0.7km long...Arrh I just need to stop procrastinating and do itGrin

Daisydoesnt · 30/12/2018 10:46

emummy thank you again for your advice - I will try to aim for two sets of five initially!

On the subject of ParkRun (well done on your PB Calm!!), did anyone see that the second fastest ever time was set yesterday by Alex Yee at Dulwich parkrun in London. Alex ran a time of 13:57.

How amazing is that?!

Adding in my miles for December that takes us to 466.4

Daisydoesnt · 30/12/2018 10:48

Come on SKiMum99 if you will, I will. I am afraid of hills though!!

I know there is a regular poster on here that describes themselves as a hill junky, perhaps they could tell us what the secret is!!?

IRun4Me · 30/12/2018 11:28

I don’t have any hills near me. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing Shock

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/12/2018 11:32

I live in a really hilly area, so I often do long slow inclines, and every so often will get a really steep short hill en route. I might try some specific hill reps though, I have done them before but not as a regular thing.

IRun4Me · 30/12/2018 11:32

Off to the beach for a long walk tomorrow so last run of the year this morning.
It’s been an up and down running year but I did achieve my greatest running feat of completing a Marathon (in a respectable time) this year. So perhaps overall a very good running year. Grin
Here’s to a good running 2019 for everyone
470.6

DomesticAnarchist · 30/12/2018 19:02

Just managed to squidge my miles in for my first Race At Your Pace thing, and in new Xmas trainers (lovely shoes!)

Only 16.3 miles since my last post. Back on it next week...

So that's 486.9

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2018 10:45

6 mile run today trying a new circuit. Really enjoyable apart from an unscheduled stop being needed. Fortunately there were loos nearby that for once weren't locked but it's getting quite frustrating.
Then 10 mins before the end I suddenly totally ran out of energy.

So how do I manage morning runs with both balancing adequate fuelling and not needing to divert or abort? I even turned down beer at the pub yesterday in prep. It's by far the most convenient time of day for me but argh!

Daisydoesnt · 31/12/2018 10:48

A last run of the year for me this morning, my "hilly" 6k route and I managed to knock 24 seconds off my PB! I still have to pinch myself that I am doing this - I was terribly bad at sport at school, and only started running in June this year when I unexpectedly had time on my hands.

So looking forward to what 2019 will bring. Grin
490.5

Daisydoesnt · 31/12/2018 10:52

Think that brings us to 495.5 BadKitten??

You have my sympathy on the "unscheduled stop". My worst nightmare, I at least have plenty of quite hedgerows I can dive behind.

I always run on an empty stomach, but I'll caveat that by saying I eat really well the night before (I mean lots of complex carbohydrates), drink plenty of water through the night & in the morning, then eat a banana or a handful or dried apricots as I get out of bed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2018 11:44

Hang on are we adding miles or km?

Daisydoesnt · 31/12/2018 12:15

Miles I think? I added 3.6 to Domestic’s total but posted at the same time as you Bad Kitten

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2018 15:23

ok, that makes us 496.6 :)

FATEdestiny · 31/12/2018 15:38

My personal yearly total is in. I've run for 263 out of 269 days from starting C25K on 6th April, RED apart from 6. Total of over 3000km run, more than 2000 miles Shock

Adding my total since Iast updated to our thread total:
