Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

oooo I get the numbers now. I thought some of you were running awfully far Blush

Thanks emu, I'm stretching but don't really know what I'm doing with that, so I'll look up some proper stretches. I could do with getting a foam roller I think and maybe one of those bands as well. That knee feels a little sore post run, so I need to watch it.

SkiMum99 · 24/12/2018 20:56

Ten miles this morning before Xmas food prep and then collapsed shattered this arvo normally I can’t wait till Boxing Day when kids become more sane again and we can actually “enjoy” playing new board games and Lego etc Grin happy Christmas all.

I ran 6k today Xmas Grin

Topsyturvey10 · 25/12/2018 20:03

I managed 3.5m yesterday and 3 today. Would like to have gone further but my legs felt like lead. Will try again tomorrow fuelled by mince pies 🙄

CalmConfident · 25/12/2018 23:18

Thanks fate that looks great, just a bit south of my folks (j27) but could pick it up at Eastwood.

Inspired to pack my trainers when we head up there tomorrow now

CalmConfident · 25/12/2018 23:19

Christmas parkrun done today Xmas Smile

SkiMum99 · 26/12/2018 11:10

Pre-breakfast 5k legs tired after long run on Xmas eve but head needed the exercise after sitting around all day yesterday.

Approx 370 adding on those above? Smile

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/12/2018 11:45

I did a slow 10km this morning, grim at the time but glad I did it now.

Anyone get any nice running gear for Christmas? I got some bone conduction headphones and a head torch!

emummy · 26/12/2018 12:26

I got a new watch, Garmin forerunner 235, and a headtorch. Both a surprise; think I know how to work them!
Boxing Day fun run today, good crowd with local running star Robbie Simpson winning - well I think he did, I was nowhere near finished at the time! Good run & lovely soup after

I went for a walk to scout out a place to do some hill/interval training, starting tomorrow. Think I've found a nice quiet place :)

It's ages til my birthday and dh had already chosen me an expensive gift for Christmas so I couldn't ask for running gear, but I thought about looking for a waterproof running jacket in the sales. Any recommendations?

Well done everyone who has got out over the past couple of days. :) that takes some effort.

IRun4Me · 27/12/2018 16:37

I’m back after a horrid virus. First run in over 4 weeks. It was a bit hard but not bad considering lack of exercise and lots of food over the last week. Enjoyed it - so good to be back out there.
BadKitten I’m looking for a waterproof running jacket as well

Well done for getting back to it Irun :)

I did 4k today, but with my running up a hill and walking back down it included in the total. I think the hill was too short but for now it will do cos I could feel myself losing power as I got close to the top.

I used to have a Ronhill waterproof which was good but got too warm after a few miles. This year I got an Innov8 stormshell. It's not cheap but might be in the sales somewhere. It is very light, packs down into a pocket and is much more breathable; I managed to run 11 miles in it one day. I used to not bother and just get soaked through, but this jacket has changed that!
Glad you're feeling better IRun, that was a long time to be ill.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2018 17:30

I've been looking at that emu. How do the sizes measure up?

emummy · 27/12/2018 21:24

Innov8 tends to be on the small size I find, so if I measure as a medium I would buy the large, especially as you need room under a jacket. Length is fine - I am 6ft1.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/12/2018 22:00

thanks, that's helpful :) their website has a sale for size 6 and 8. I'm usually an 8.

emummy · 27/12/2018 22:05

You could also take a look at sportsshoes.com, they often have good prices. Happy shopping!

Hill reps this morning, first ones for a while & it felt hard! Was hoping for 10, managed 8 but happy enough with that. Beautiful sunny morning here.

Hey. Looking for w bit for advice. I was a regular runner but had a 9 week break due to morning sickness and first trimester exhaustion. I’m now 16 weeks pregnant and have been out a couple of times and I’m really sore on my left ribs. Not sure if it’s down to bad technique as running with a bump (3rd baby) but it’s really sore. Almost feels bruised, sore to touch and sore when I sit up and use the muscles. Any ideas?! I’m going to rest for a few days and try some spinning instead. I don’t want to stop running but this really hurts

SkiMum99 · 28/12/2018 16:31

naps only advice I’d have is listen to your body & how you feel is normally the best indication as any medical folk will just tell you to stop. Ligaments get softer with pregnancy so maybe it’s stretched? Would a bump band help provide support? I swam in both my pregnancies instead, right up to 42weeks but by that point I’d switched to 10L back stroke as I was the size of a whale and in denial about needing an induction...Grin

Napssavelives · 28/12/2018 16:44

Bump band is a good idea, I’ll look into it. Thanks !

screamer1 · 28/12/2018 16:48

I'd love to join this thread. I used to be a keen runner but ever since having two children my hips / lower back can't seem to take it (right hip / glute particular). Does anyone have any advice on what I could do to get back into it? Do I just need intensive physio?

emummy · 28/12/2018 17:21

screamer an assessment from a sports physio would help, and find one who understands runners if you can! It may be you have some weakness or tightness around your hips & pelvis and need some strengthening exercises to sort it out.

screamer1 · 28/12/2018 17:39

Thanks @emummy I will do that and hopefully rejoin once I start up in the new year.
