Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

Are you setting up a new park run emummy? How exciting if so!

I haven’t posted in Dec yet, I think I’ve done 20miles so far.

Intervals at lunch, there was a Christmas fair on at my local running park though, the crowds got in my way!

emummy · 06/12/2018 16:32

Yes we are Buster, it's very exciting!

DaffoDeffo · 06/12/2018 17:48

I did 2.5 miles this morning

SkiMum99 · 06/12/2018 20:50

That’s great emummy setting up a ParkRun. our local one will be a year old soon, they average 300 folk a week. It’s been really good for the local community I think.

Geekster1963 · 06/12/2018 21:44

Thanks emummy at the moment I’m running everyday I started on the 1st October and enjoyed it so much I’ve kept it going and I’m on day 67 and 225 miles now. I only do a mile some days to make sure I get a rest.

I did five miles tonight with running club through the woods with out head torches love those runs.

Geekster1963 · 06/12/2018 21:47

There is a parkrun where I live that started on 3rd November. I’ve been to them all so far it’s (marshalled at one), and I’m volunteering next Saturday too. It’s a mile and a half from home so I usually run there and back to get more miles in (and I don’t have to get up as early). Wink

Geekster1963 · 06/12/2018 21:48

Should read with our head torches
Would have been a bit dangerous without!

emummy · 08/12/2018 14:04

The night run sounds great Geekster; I've done some on my own with the dog, I think it would be more fun with other people! Our park run will be about a mile and a half from my house, and our town is pretty small, so should be a good runnable distance for many runners who want a longer distance.
Long run for me this morning as Dh is going out early tomorrow and I couldn't face another 6 am alarm on a Sunday! So 10 miles along country roads in the sunshine, very enjoyable if a little chilly.

It sounds like you had a lovely run this morning emummy I ran to and from parkrun today and was only 5 seconds off my parkrun PB. With a strong headwind for half of it I was pleased with that. I’ve got around 40 miles to go to get to my target for the year.

emummy · 09/12/2018 09:03

Soggy early morning run.

20.1 miles for me in the last week including a parkrun. Weather has been pretty kind to me as had no ice on days I wanted to run. How do you decide if ice is bad enough to cancel a run?

120.7

DaffoDeffo · 09/12/2018 10:43

Did a quick (well not quick Grin) 6km this morning

Topsyturvey10 · 09/12/2018 11:17

After a break of a few weeks I am trying to get back on it. I managed a few miles by myself this morning (4.1). I really need to join a club...

emummy · 09/12/2018 11:38

AnotherOtter it depends really. Our town is good for gritting the paths quickly & well so I can plan routes where I know the paths will be good. Sometimes there's just too much ice & snow so I will head to the trails then, especially in the forest. I do have yaktrax to wear, they help a lot, but last January there was a spell where we had really thick ice and they didn't make any difference.

DomesticAnarchist · 09/12/2018 21:24

Hello runners
I finished the C25K a few weeks ago and have finally managed to get back out this week. Only managed two short ones so 6.9mi for the week and the most epic stitch.

Ran my second ever HM this morning Smile super pleased with myself ended up doing 22k in the end. I was due to do it in March but snow then injury delayed me some bit and it’s been a steady re-build (with strength training & Pilates) since my 5wk running break in Aug. Absolutely shattered now doing after school sports watching my kids at their club. Hope I can stay awake. Did ParkRun & abit on sat, so 16.5m added to the total.
Next official HM is booked in Feb, but I’d like to do another on my own in mid-Jan.

Added a short 3.4 miles this evening.

FATEdestiny · 11/12/2018 07:57

SkiMum99 massive well done! Doing the 21km on my own is definitely my favourite way to HM.

FATEdestiny · 11/12/2018 08:06

DH did his first 10km run yesterday, he's only recently started running. I continue to chase the ever elusive sub-60 time for mine (current PB 1h02m). DH does his first ever in 55 mins. Git!

224.5, adding on my December miles from me so far.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/12/2018 09:09

I’m actually getting slower the more I run- my best 10km time is about 55 mins, but currently I’m at 62-65 mins! I do a 10+ at least once a week as well so it’s not that I’m out of practice. My best HM was 2h7m and my aim was to get that to under 2h by my race, but given my current performance that looks unlikely!!

In January I’m going to focus more on my longer distances and Do some other training (maybe swimming?) to give my bones a rest. I also want to really focus on my nutrition, now I’ve lost some weight I think I need a proper sports nutrition diet rather than a weight loss plan. Any recommendations? What’s the views on low carb diets and running?

emummy · 11/12/2018 11:40

Easy run in the sunshine today.
bear I just have a normal diet and found Renee McGregor's books helpful. Tim Noakes is probably the expert on low carb diets and has a book on it. I think the key is that there is no set level of carb intake to stick to, I understand that everyone is a little different so there is trial and error involved.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/12/2018 14:27

Emummy I listened to a really interesting podcast with Tim Noakes, very informative. The low carb diet is really essential for me for my ongoing health, but virtually every running book or sports book diet plan has quite large amounts of carbs. Joe wicks has a post workout breakfast with 100g porridge oats in it- that just wouldn’t work for me. I might just design my own I think!

emummy · 11/12/2018 15:22

I heard on a podcast the other day that Tim Noakes has a book about it, suggesting which foods work etc. You could have a look for that maybe?

emummy · 11/12/2018 15:42

On Amazon they have 'THe lore of nutrition' and 'the real meal revolution'; the latter seems to have recipes.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/12/2018 20:13

Ooh thank you emummy, I will have a look!
