Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

Skimum yes that’s what I’m thinking of, at least to see if I use it. It’s more just to stop the arctic winds going straight through my top while I get warmed up! This time last year I had a good thick layer of body fat to keep me warm but since running I am definitely noticing I’m colder a lot more!

emummy · 22/11/2018 11:17

Another soggy run, different woods though!

Fresh early run, but of fartlek. Off to parkrun to shadow the volunteers, our new parkrun starts in 3 months!

A couple of short ones from me.
This thread is good for my fitness and my maths Grin

It's helping my maths too IRun4Me!
Started in the dark this morning, another soggy day but brightened up last few miles.

I haven't posted for ages and ages (been having problems with my laptop) so hello again everyone. I have been progressing very slowly with my running, very gradually increasing my distances and now up to a 10-12km long run.

I've entered a HM at the end of March next year and also joined the local running club! I've only been to one training session so far (we were away on hols last week) but as I thought, I was the slowest one there - embarrassing but not a surprise. The training session I joined was very good though and I worked SO much harder than on my own, so I want to stick with it as I can tell I will improve. For those interested after a warm-up we did 1km, then 2km, then 1km, then 2km, then 1km with 90secs rest after the 1kms and 3mins after the 2kms. I ran faster than I've run in my life - but was still last to finish!

emummy · 25/11/2018 11:35

Well done Daisy, you're making great progress. The club session sounds tough! A lot of people do find that being in a club helps them to push harder and yours sounds really good. Good luck with it.

Daisydoesnt · 25/11/2018 13:24

Thanks emummy - no pain no gain Grin

youreinacultcallyourdad · 26/11/2018 15:50

So I made it to week three of couch to 5k with ease but week four just defeated me and I had to stop, trying not to feel to defeated as I am travelling and currently at a town where athletes come to altitude train, any advice for adjusting to this? I’m thinking maybe repeat week three again?

emummy · 26/11/2018 16:32

If you are not used to altitude it will really affect you, even the elites take a while to get used to it and will run a lot slower at altitude than sea level. So either repeat last week or do week 4 at a much slower pace and don't feel down, it really is a big adjustment for your body!

youreinacultcallyourdad · 26/11/2018 17:58

Thankyou @emummy I live at a pretty high altitude usually so wasn’t expecting such a shock to my system but it really took the wind out of my and I had to stop or I’d have probably passed out. I’m going to give a week three run ago tomorrow and see how that feels Smile

emummy · 27/11/2018 11:25

Thoroughly drenched on my run today; I think I've been rained on during every single run for the last week! Also sobering to run past police searching for a local missing teenager.
Hope the run goes well today yourein.

A pretty blustery 5m this morning but unlike emummy I just managed to get back before the rain started!! I think for this first time ever I didn't strip off any layers - gloves, hoodie, the lot stayed on. Either I didn't go fast enough or it was really cold this morning.

AnotherOtter · 28/11/2018 08:14

Four steady 5 mile runs for me in the last week. Keep meaning to post more often but I'm too disorganised. Still enjoying the 5 mile distance as easy to fit in in a morning but still feels like I've achieved something but worried that I might fall into a rut. Need to do some more fartlek and actually make it to parkrun.

Interesting to hear about your running club experience, Daisy. I am not brave enough to go to my local running club as worried I'll be so much slower than everyone else. Also, I really don't look like a runner. You will be making great gains though so well done.

How did you get on with trying week 3 again, youreinacult? Slowing down and then slowing down some more was the best C25K advice I got.

My 20 and Daisy's 5 miles:

Another sodden run, to and from bootcamp in the wet and muddy park. Going to get webbed feet if this keeps up!

Daisydoesnt · 28/11/2018 13:05

Anotherotter I was the slowest, and I knew I would be, so actually it was OK. There were 5-6 women my age-ish in the same group as me who were all faster to various degrees, but they had all been going to the club for a number of years. That, and the fact that I only started running in June, made me feel a bit better ie I don't have a long-standing base of running fitness. I'm determined to keep at it (unless they ask me to leave!!) because it is so obviously going to stretch me which can only help me improve.
I ran again this morning - only an easy-paced 5km, I didn't even wear my watch - but that's the first time I've ever run two consecutive days, so I am pleased as my legs didn't feel tired.
On the subject of the rain - which it sounds like we are all suffering under!! - who goes running even when it's tipping down, or will you only go out if it's drizzly?? I'm the latter, although I don't mind if it starts raining hard when I'm out.

emummy · 28/11/2018 13:32

I will go out in any weather which is why I have gradually built up a wardrobe of reliable running gear! Living in north east Scotland, I can't really wait for the weather to improve! It has rained every day for the past 10 days now, to varying degrees. Although we are actually quite a dry area, hard to believe right now!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/11/2018 13:56

Daisy i try to avoid the rain, partly because I want to avoid illness. I am very prone to colds. I have run in pretty grotty weather, the freezing fog the other day was particularly grim. Consider it money in the bank- run through wind and fog and cold and rain, then in spring when it’s lovely and dry and warm we will skip along!! I do think if you’re planning races, eg I have a half in April, it helps to weather the conditions a bit because otherwise if it happens to be especially cold, wet, or even hot on that day it will feel harder.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/11/2018 13:57

I’m not looking forward to the snow and ice though, I think that will be the one thing that stops me as I don’t want injury! We live in a very hilly town and last winter had ivy streets for weeks. Might have to dust off the treadmill if that happens!

FATEdestiny · 28/11/2018 17:12

I got a babysitting day today (MIL asked if she could have my toddler for the day) and as a nod towards my growing send a of being a "Proper Runner", the most pleasurable way I could think to spend my child-free time was on a leisurely 20km run, followed by a long bubble bath and chocolate milk.

A million miles from the 17 1/2 stone morbidly obese 41yo I was this time last year.

Updated total since my last update:
479.6

Daisydoesnt · 28/11/2018 17:22

Amazing FATEdestiny - you must be so proud of what you've achieved in just a year!

DaffoDeffo · 28/11/2018 20:39

Hello all! I was on one of these months ago when I was saying I would never be able to do C25k and I tore my hamstring and thought I would never get there!

But today I ran 5km - ok only in 34mins but I managed it and I'm so proud

I've lost 2 stone running and am the healthiest and happiest I've ever been. Cholesterol down from 7 to under 5 and healthy BMI!

SkiMum99 · 28/11/2018 21:44

That’s brill Daffo you should be really proud and 34mins is a good time!

I’m feeling Sadstuffed sinus with a cold, fat n grumpy this week with no exercise as normal work & kids leaving me knackered. I know I will spring back next week but the wet n windy grey days certainly aren’t helping me feel better or get towards my HM goal by Xmas...

Daisydoesnt · 29/11/2018 09:37

Well done Daffo 34mins for a first 5k time is really good - I bet you will get it even lower than that over the coming weeks as well!
