Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

Slow but happy run in the forest today

Hope the trainers, insoles and stretches help bear.
Thanks for gel insole tip off I will see if I can find some as my foot started to feel bit tender lately but it’s on my “dodgy side” and I’ve been doing strength training to try build my glutes and suppprt my back more. Arhhhghh it’s crap getting older everything just twinges more and more! Only a crap 3k run last night as I didn’t want to go but daughter was at her activity so I sat outside in the car telling myself to go run, then had a stitch felt crap ran/walk before giving upBlush I’d normally swim but pool is shut temp for repairs and I’m really missing it. I’ll try again tom for a 5k, my hormones have been massively haywire again this week which hasn’t helped either..

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/11/2018 18:14

Well gp was fairly useless. It’s metatarsalgia but that basically means ‘anything wrong with the metatarsal area that’s not a fracture’ and I need to take ibuprofen and rest, or at least not do long distances or push it too hard. So I’m looking at short runs for the next few days. I’ll keep up the stretches though. And I do need to rest it, I literally never sit down, I do 18k+ steps every day pretty much, sometimes more. Listen to the body and all that!

Oh, and I cannot be referred to a podiatrist for my bunion until I’m sixty five, so only another 30 years of it!!! I will have to look into private treatment I think.

SkiMum99 · 15/11/2018 21:32

Oh dear bear listen to your body sounds sensible even if it sucks some non-running cross training may help?
I’ve given up expecting much from GP if it’s sports related and just know I have to fund it myself now...

BusterTheBulldog · 16/11/2018 09:08

Argh! thenewaverage, that’s annoying! It is expensive to see the podiatrist, but it’s definitely the best running money I’ve spent this year! I also wore my running shoes there and they gave me some advice on those too, so you could kill two birds maybe?

Intervals from me yesterday. I stupidly did a different strength class on Monday night and I’m still feeling the effects now-big worries it’s going to affect my half on Sunday, but still 48 hours to recover I guess!

Buster I have emailed a local guy and hopefully he does some sort of initial consultation where I might get more info and possibly some stretches/exercises etc, without needing regular appointments yet. It infuriates me about the NHS though that you have to be literally broken and unable to work before any help is given especially when it’s a condition that will get worse.

SkiMum99 · 16/11/2018 10:10

In case anyone else in need I just got a new shock absorber run bra from chain reaction cycles online for £22.99. Normally I pay upto £40 for those as I need a big size!

Ran 5k this morn and with 3k from Wed I’ll add 5m to the total Smile

Yes I agree bear by exercising we are preventing (mostly) ourselves from being a massive burden on the NHS later in life but that needs “maintenance” which isn’t covered and is very short sighted. Matt Hancock (health Sec) tried to make that point the other day about low budget spent on “preventative” nhs care - my GP runs park run most weeks (with her young kids) and they “prescribe” it too which I think is good step in right direction plus we are lucky one of the GPs will also do some sports injury work in house as he’s the local rugby teams Dr but they have such limited time to help with a very aging population to prioritise time on Sad

From Sunday, Lidl have thermal underlayers, leggings and other bits in their offers section, in case anyone needs and cold weather gear. I want a fleecy snood/scarf type thing but they didn’t have any unfortunately.

emummy · 17/11/2018 07:29

Very early run today before travelling to Edinburgh for OU tutorial.
Good luck with your half tomorrow Buster hope it goes well.

2 short runs from me. I’ve found since I’ve changed my mindset to a short one is better than nothing I have less excuses and am getting out there more. And enjoying it again.
I went with the dog and DS this morning and couldn’t keep up with either. But my stamina was better (not than the dog’s - he’s a spaniel but I have been known to occasionally wear him out).
Good luck on Sunday Buster

8 mile run th8s morning. I'm listening to a podcast prequel to Waking the Dead (which I never watched on tv) and really enjoying it. I ran on pavements and through a golf course. Loved it.

Emummy what an incredible view!

BusterTheBulldog · 19/11/2018 10:14

Thank you for the good luck wishes! I got a 6 min PB yesterday, v v pleased! I found it tough though, a real mental battle from mile 10 which is normally when I cheer up on a half. Ended up basically counting to 100 over and over to get through. My legs were still hurting from Monday’s weights session-that’s a lesson for me to remember for sure!

SkiMum99 · 19/11/2018 21:51

Well done buster great PB.

I had a good 15.5k / 9.6m run this morning, was my fastest long run for months and so lovely to finally find my legs again after months of struggling Smile and no tummy explosions this time Grin

Well done Buster Brilliant Smile
Good to hear you had a good run SkiMum and got back that nice positive feeling.
A damp chilly run last night

AnotherOtter · 20/11/2018 07:49

Well done on your PB and making it through a tough race, Buster. Gorgeous photo, emummy.

Three steady 5 miles and an easy 10k (had planned longer but ran out of time) in the last week for me. I'm not following a training plan so winging it and doing what I feel like and finding that the 5 mile runs are really suiting me.

BusterTheBulldog · 20/11/2018 10:30

Thank you all! Grin

Glad you had a good run skimum, so nice when it all comes together!

I really like the 5 mile distance too anotherotter, always feels like a decent workout but I don’t struggle to find the time to fit it in either.

I’m off on hols later, packing trainers but will see how it goes!

emummy · 20/11/2018 11:44

That's a fantastic result Buster, well done! Enjoy your holiday!
My run today is dedicated to my Innov8 storm shell and SealSkinz socks, without whom I would have been quite miserable! Honourable mentions go to 2xu heat compression tights and my faithful RunMummyRun cap for keeping the rain off my glasses, and my shoes for not slipping in the mud and puddles. What a day!

IRun4Me · 21/11/2018 19:58

emummy it sounds like you have and need all the gear. I layered up this morning as was going to my exercise class, which is outside, but was then baking by the time I’d run there.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/11/2018 20:07

Irun4me I did the same; saw that it was 2* and wore a hoodie over my running top but then I was roasting and it was the wrong type of fabric too.

I really need a very lightweight waterproof/windproof I think, maybe even one that folds up into its own pocket (does that make sense?) but is a waterproof the wrong thing? Does it make you sweat a lot?

emummy · 21/11/2018 20:26

bear some waterproofs do make you sweat. my dh kindly got me the rather expensive Innov8 one and it has been worth every penny! I have run up to 11 miles in it in late summer this ear, so it wasn't a cold day, and had no problems. Previously would have to take my waterproof off after a mile.

Of course, you can run without one and just have layers to help keep you dry; I just find it perfect for the biblical rain days like today! I wore it in horizontal rain at bootcamp this morning.

SkiMum99 · 21/11/2018 20:28

I’ve got a cheap sports direct light weight running jacket that’s been perfect with a long sleeved top underneath and it ties round my waist easily for long runs.

Quick lunchtime 5k today bit brrrr but was good to clear my head.
