Thought I would start a new thread as we have literally run out of room on the last one Grin

3 out of the 4 workouts have HIIT so you get plenty of it. I actually prefer the 1 weekly workout without it as I am not a natural cardio bunny Grin persevere though as there is a HIIT only workout every other week so you'll enjoy that Wink my biceps were also protesting tonight!!

Missed a workout last night due to a minor (now fixed) boiler breakdown. By the time that was sorted it was a bit late, although the house was so cold, working out might have been a good way to keep warm!
So did lift legs tonight. Was finding it challenging but ok until I got to the HIIT bit which was killer. Omg - my legs were wobbly when I came back downstairs after my shower. I loved it! My legs will definitely hate me tomorrow though Grin

Reastie · 05/01/2019 07:08

Purple well done on the legs workout, I can imagine hiit after lots of squats and lunges being a killer.

Had a day doing nothing on Thursday as it was a bad day then yesterday did five minute warm up on my step (just an allsortment of basic step moves which was still quite a lot of activity for atm) then 15 mins of whatever toning exercise came in my head. Thinking of going for a little walk for my activity for today. Still putting on weight and still having to eat ridiculous amounts but am at times managing to eat salad/healthier foods and do some kind of activity most days rather than sitting on the sofa. Still haven’t left the house since my scan nearly a month ago and it’s starting to become a bit of a mental issue as when I get anxious or stressed by nausea gets really bad, and when I do too much it also comes back (as well as being here a lot anyway) so the thought of doing something that will both exhaust me and make me stressed and anxious is scary.

Theromanempire · 05/01/2019 10:26

Will post properly later but just wanted to say that I've seen an advert for BOD with 36% off in case anyone is planning on signing up to it Smile not that there is many of us left Wink

I'm still here!

So happy that you are able to build in some exercise, as I know you love it Reastie. Could you build up going outside by having a walk to the end of the road and back, then round the block etc - make sure you have everything you might need with you.

Planning to have one more day of christmas Blush - I have reigned it in though, did a weigh in this morning and back to my heaviest weight but I feel pretty good considering!

Decorations down tomorrow and hopefully one fun beachbody workout at some point over the weekend then I am going to be a bit foolish and leap into week 2 LIIFT so I have some company. Not going to go too heavy though as have had no problems with my arm while not exercising.

Purple I am so jealous that you love killer workouts Grin annoying about your boiler, that is one of the most sucky things to break down.

Roman 21 years of marriage - congratulations!!!

yumyumpoppycat · 05/01/2019 13:39

Reastie I am sorry if this comes across tactless or obvious but I have found these www.amazon.co.uk/Cleanis-CareBag-Absorbent-Vomit-Sickness/dp/B0051AZZCM/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?keywords=travel+sickness+bags&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1546695343&sr=8-3
I was thinking you could get a rucksack together with bottle of water, crackers, face wipes etc? Are there walls and things on your road you could lean on if you feel ill?

yumyumpoppycat · 05/01/2019 13:46

But if building up exercise at home makes you feel good do that and sit in your garden with a warm ginger tea drink for some fresh air.

Purpleraindeer · 05/01/2019 15:47

I was going to say the same re getting out in the garden reastie. Getting natural light is massively important for your body and mental health. It might help your mood just to get even a short exposure of sunlight - not that there is much of that at this time of year....

Roman - did I miss something? 21yrs married - wow. I’m married 10yrs and that feels like ages.

Poppy - definitely join us on liift. I doubt I’m much ahead of you on the weights - being ill for ages has made me really weak so I’m struggling quite a lot.

I got out for a run today. It was my first since Xmas day and my legs were sooooo sore after the lift workout yesterday. Managed 7miles with a lot of walks. Am completely broken now so I perhaps overdid it a bit. Now I see why you only do 4 workouts per week on liift. I’ve stil got chest and triceps to do tomorrow from week 1 Shock

Theromanempire · 05/01/2019 16:03

reastie agree with the others that getting outdoors might just help a bit - whether that is walking or just sitting. It does sound like you are listening to your body which is good - it will let you know when it has had enough or when it's ready for more!

purple yes, you really do need the 3 rest days in Liift Grin If it helps, the leg workouts each week are the hardest ones so at least you know what to expect now! I never do more than a walk/stretch/clubbercise workout on rest days and my fitness still increased so much! Enjoy the rest days and do not feel guilty Smile

yum yes, join in at week 2 with us next week - I honestly don't think it would matter that you've missed week 1.

I don't lift more than 5kg throughout Liift - mainly because that is the heaviest dumbbells we have but even if we had heavier, there are probably only chest presses and squats/lunges that I would be able to go heavier anyway. There are a few exercises where I drop to 4.5kg and one of the shoulder ones (the ones that is like a standing chest press thing) I only use 1.2kg and even that hurts Blush

I have just got Legs to do from week 1 (yay!) but doing it tomorrow as been for a walk this afternoon which involved a 25 minute climb up a hill so my legs are knackered!!

Love hearing about the lift workouts. Very envious! Also envious of all the walking and running.

This morning I went out for fresh air, hurrah! First time in at least 2 weeks I’ve left the home. It was only in the garden (but we have a big 13 acre garden) and I didn’t do a full circuit but I walked to the far side, sat down for a while listening to a podcast then walked back. My pace was quicker than last time and I didn’t feel too exhausted. In fact, this morning I almost felt normal at times. After lunch I was tempted to do a workout as my body felt ready and itching for it but I then went downhill again and had to lie in bed Sad . I really hope given another couple of weeks or so I can do more of a proper workout not just an untra gentle barely there 15 minute build up attempt.

Purple it took me too long to learn the lesson that rest days in a way are as important as workout days. Your body won’t thank you innthe long run

Reastie · 05/01/2019 17:56

I shoukd make it clear I didn’t do the afternoon workout as I felt rubbish before I could do it. It would’ve been too much anyway.

Purpleraindeer · 06/01/2019 11:54

I’m glad you got out reastie. I hope it helped. I’m very envious of the 13 acre garden - do you have to mow all of that?! Yikes. Mind you, you could have a sit on mower which is a dream of mine.....Grin

I did chest and triceps today. I was very sore and tired when I got up so I was amazed I got through it. I had to dig out my lightest weights for some of the tricep moves - I haven’t used those weights in 12mths so that gave me a feel for how much strength I’ve lost after 4wks off. I only managed 5 tricep press ups per set on my knees too. So, there’s plenty of room for improvement over 8 weeks! I feel knackered now

Reastie · 06/01/2019 12:37

Purple there are lots of ‘natural’ areas and trees and it’s the family garden rather than just mine. My parents live down the road and own it but our garden leads directly into it so essentially it’s ours too. So best bit is we don’t have to upkeep it as they do! Although my dad has both a sit on mower and a tractor mower!

Today I did the warm up from a pg step workout on amazon prime. It would have been barely out of breath ridiculously easy preg but I was huffing and puffing through it and had to give up after just the 7 minute warm up. So I may have only done 7 minutes today but intensity for my lack of activity was the most I’ve had since mid October so counting it as progress.

Decided to take myself out for a drive this morning as I haven’t left home in a month and the longer it gets the more of a mental thing it becomes. It’s weird, I’m not stir crazy at all stuck at home, I guess that shows I’m not myself. Anyway, I drove around local roads just to feel like I left home and challenge myself. I drove around my old running route roads and saw so many runners out, more than I ever usually do when running and then I realise it was early January so they are all the New Years resolution runners! Wonder how long they’ll last.

Haven’t had any new year thread joiners come on and no update from plink recently, hope she’s ok.

Purple tricep push ups are by far the hardest, and in a weird way it’s good when you can’t do many or only use light weight as it means it’s so much more obvious as you progress how strong you get.

YoureMyWifeNowDave · 06/01/2019 18:27

Hi I have been lurking (and doing BOD) for a while now, I've done 21DF and 21DFX a couple of times and attempted T25 twice Blush

Today I have completed my first 8 weeks of Liift4 and I have loved it so much (apart from the hiit!) I am taking a weeks break and will be repeating Liift4 starting next Monday

yumyumpoppycat · 07/01/2019 07:13

Reastie your garden sounds amazing, well done on drive and step workout!

Dave welcome Well done for getting to week 8 of liift, be great to have another person on it.

Purple if you did 5 tricep pushups on toes thats bloody amazing - I can barely do 5 on my knees.

Roman sounds like I was lifting similar weights to be honest but for some I was pushing to go heavier.

Purpleraindeer · 07/01/2019 07:42

Welcome Dave. You’ll have company for round 2 as there are 3 of us on this thread doing liift now.

Watched an interesting programme called ‘the truth about exercise’ on iPlayer last night. 2 things I found very interesting - running releases chemicals in your brain which give you a cannabis like high and also stimulates your appetite. (Explains why just running to lose weight is hard!) for strength gains you just need to work the muscle to exhaustion - whether it’s a heavy or light weight doesn’t matter, but obviously it’s faster with a heavier weight. It also explained why HIIT is so effective even though it is very short.
The programme is well worth a watch.

Rest day for me thank goodness. my chest is so sore it hurt changing gears when I was driving this am!

yumyumpoppycat · 08/01/2019 00:02

Will look for that programme Purple sounds interesting.

I decided to try the week 2 leg workout today as I was too lazy to carry weights down stairs I modified everything, which was the right move as I still struggled and was out of breath so quickly! My knees are hurting but think its my weight being up that is the cause. Just need to take it slow and lose some weight I guess!

Theromanempire · 08/01/2019 12:06

Dave welcome to the thread. Sounds like you are a proper BOD devotee - which has been your favourite programme?

Purple that programme does sound interesting - will definitely check it out? Was the 'high' that stimulates your appetite specific to running or other cardio aswell?

Yum yes, the week 2 legs workout is a killer (I remember it well Confused even without weights, it bloody hurts!!!

Reastie yay on the 7 minute workout - small steps Smile Hopefully the last few weeks will be distant memory soon and you will start to feel like yourself before long and can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.

I have joined you lot on the 'broken' front. Did Week 1 legs on Sunday and it hurt (a lot!) then did week 2 Chests/tricep circuit yesterday thinking it would be ok as there was no Hiit in it (and it was ok) but then topped it off with Clubbercise last night and my legs are agony today Blush Was going to do the Back/Bicep 50/50 tonight but I think there is too much Hiit in there and we are a bit short of time tonight so going to switch to the shoulders one as you only need to use your legs for 30 seconds at a time Grin Rest day tomorrow...

I have also decided to stay in the conservatory to exercise even though the Christmas tree is no longer in the way. I have quite enjoyed it and it saves us shifting coffee tables out of the way and moving all the weights into the lounge so DH can just take his in and I get my own little weights rack to choose from! I have learnt to embrace the cold Wink

Purpleraindeer · 08/01/2019 20:58

Roman - apparently the chemicals your brain releases when you run which create the high are the same as those you get when you smoke cannabis and they also make you feel hungry! Sorry you’re broken. Hope you mend soon (or at least faster than me, I now have the permanent doms you get when you start a new workout programme)

Well done on the leg workout poppy. That’s a tough one to start on. Week one legs nearly killed me so I’m a bit afraid of week 2. I did back and biceps today. I wore my lovely (sale purchased) lululemon leggings as I thought it was just weights and no HIIT so I wouldn’t be too hot. Oh dear. Not only were the weights really hard but the HIIT was really hard too so I was boiling and knackered by the end. It felt much harder than last weeks equivalent, but maybe it’s like childbirth, you can’t remember the pain so it’s a surprise each time? Grin

Purpleraindeer · 10/01/2019 12:32

Chest and triceps last night. That was hard. I was already burned out before the burn out! I feel very tired today and it’s a very different type of tiredness from weights than the one I get from lots of cardio - my arms feel like they’ve got 20kg weights attached to them! I’m glad of the rest day today

Theromanempire · 10/01/2019 12:55

Purple yes the ache is different to cardio soreness but I much prefer it Grin Are you enjoying the workouts? I can't wait to see what you think of the legs workout this week Wink It seems like it's going to be really easy - 3 HIIT exercises repeated 3 times - but by god, it is a killer! Literally gasping for breath by the end of it the HIIT workouts in week 7 & 8 are far worse.

I had a much needed rest day yesterday so feel ok today - going to tackle week 2 Back/Bicep with HIIT at the end. From what you have said Purple, I think I will appreciate being in the freezing cold conservatory tonight Wink

Hi Dave, I’m cheating being on the thread really as I’m doing no bb atm! But I will once again sometime... (I’m pg and suffering with bad nausea). Welcome

I have a challenge for you all, I saw this and thought immediately of you all the abs baby shark challenge . Keeps the little ones amused and you get a quick core workout, what’s not to like!

Day of the step workout I had huge bad afternoon as the step was too much for me atm, I’m undeterred though. Did yoga the next day and yesterday did some gentle legs/weights work. Nothing today as huge challenge of making it to hospital for mw apt, which I did and got to hear hb which makes it all feel more worthwhile. Might do gentle walk tomorrow.

Thermo at least it’s a cool room for when you’re sweating!

Purple Envy of the leggings but not the huge sweat in them! I think the high you get at the end of a workout helps you forget how much you hate it when you’re in the middle of it.

Purpleraindeer · 11/01/2019 19:55

Well done on getting to the appt reastie. It is amazing hearing the hb - i always loved that. Can you feel movement yet? Good that your feeling well enough to exercise a little - it sounds like it is graduallly improving? Take it slow tho

That baby shark abs workout looks impossible. No way could I do that. Even those hardcore gymnasts struggled. I showed dd and she was ShockShock

Purpleraindeer · 11/01/2019 19:58

Oops posted too soon.....

I’m a bit scared about the legs workout now roman. I’ve found them all hard so I’m not sure I can imagine harder. I do love HIIT though. I am really enjoying lift. I’ve enjoyed doing the weights and am already feeling stronger. It is knackering me though. I was asleep at 9.30 last night and 10pm the night before. Ran 11 miles today (slow and quite a few walks!). My legs are tired now too. It is a month since I ran that sort of distance so not surprising I’m tired I suppose.

Hope you’re all well

Theromanempire · 13/01/2019 20:46

So has anyone else tackled week 2 legs? I did it this afternoon - so hard for something so simple. I modified the triple bears and lunge jumps and still was gasping for breath after each round and my thighs already feel sore Confused can't wait to see how they feel in the morning Wink

Got a free day tomorrow so going to do T25 stretch after I've got back from the school run and then week 3 back/biceps later with DH followed by Clubbercise. That should sort my legs out Grin
