A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

Did my 3 runs this week. That's brings me to 2 months of steady running. I'm really pleased it's starting to feel like z habit. I aldo can't wait for lighter mornings.

Out of interest, how are we doing miles wise? Is this on par with last year's miles? Well done everybody! I'm on 6 week countdown to bath half now! It does not seem as far away as I would like...

5 weeks to the big day! Argh!

Pinkponiesrock · 28/01/2018 09:21

Been a pretty slow week as I’ve got this cough that’s been hanging about for 2 weeks now, tried to rest a bit this week to see if that would help it shift.
Did a very steady and very windy run in the forest on Wednesday then an easy 5.5 round town on Friday, longer run this morning, 9 miles.

Got my January climb badge from strava with 3 days to go, 2000m climbed. When you live in my town you can’t avoid the hills!

Pinkponiesrock · 28/01/2018 09:23

1027, forgot to add that part!

emummy · 28/01/2018 09:27

Managed a not too hungover run with friend along the canal. Very soggy drizzly day in Edinburgh. Felt good though.
bibble if you are very tired after a run you could maybe look at what you are eating before & after to be well fuelled.
tricky I think this is s pretty good mileage total, although January is often fuelled by enthusiasm after the new year!
Hope all those under the weather pick up soon.

15.5 from me today- feeling much better about 30k in couple of weeks now. Hills though, I hate the hills! Spent a lot of time why the Romans didn’t think of a way to iron them out of roads or why we don’t have some kind of pulley system to help people Grin

A week in South Africa was just what the doctor ordered 😂 although not a lot of running (was 35 degrees). I managed one sunrise run but even then stopped after 4 miles as was baking already.

Anyway some commuting miles and 10 from this weekend. Working on getting mileage up before I work in getting my speed back up

35.5 total

479.3

RunningAddict · 28/01/2018 14:43

15 miles today for me, really wish the weather would clear up though, was running the first 4 miles against the wind which then made the rest of the run hard work. I’m happy I got to the end though, just have to take the rubbish runs as they come I suppose.

Crap forgot some pages

Can’t be bothered right now will fix it later

slippermaiden · 28/01/2018 19:30

Week 2 of couch25K completed this morning! SmileGrin

familygermsareok · 28/01/2018 20:58

Well done slippermaiden. Don't forget to add your miles Smile

Hope your next run better sayhello, sometimes there's just a bad run for no obvious reason. I'm sure you'll be fine for your HM.

That sounds way too hot for running Penguin , but hope you had a lovely time.

I really enjoyed Sat and thankfully didn't get lost. It was really windy though and lifted me off my feet a couple of times. But the last half of my leg was downhill with the wind behind me and I felt like I was flying, loved it, absolutely buzzing at the finish!
My leg was 6.6 miles, but there was 1,273 feet of climbing, so do I get to double my mileage??? Grin
Also did a gentle 6.5 today so have 13.1 to add
1078.6
Plus Penguin's 35.5

Pinkponiesrock · 28/01/2018 22:13

@familygermsareok
Was it’s the devils burdens you were doing?
My husband was doing it with our club, he did it last year too and said the wind made it so much harder!
I went along and held jackets etc last year, it looks brutal!

I’d love to run it one year though but one of us has to watch the kids and he keeps getting his name in first Angry

familygermsareok · 28/01/2018 22:57

Pinkponies, yes it was! I've never done anything like it before, but loved it and will def do again next year if I can. What leg was he doing? I was leg 3.
Sounds like it must be your turn next year! Smile

Pinkponiesrock · 29/01/2018 08:05

I think so too Wink I should book myself in now!
He was on leg 2, I read your description to him and he said he thought it was leg 3.

It’s definitely a unique race and the scenery is amazing!

ClimbingPenguin · 29/01/2018 08:30

Thanks family

pink being first should come into it. My husband often knows each calendar ahead of mine, but any clashes we talk and decide on importance or turn.

A puny 2 commuting miles to add

1116.1

Iamblossom · 29/01/2018 15:00

3 miles on the treadmill.

I don't know what was different today, but I ran like the wind and barely felt out of breath! Kept upping the speed to make it harder and I NEVER do that! Felt fabulous. Smile

And on a fast day. Wonder if that is why....have run fasted before lots of times though and haven't felt that way... Hmm

8 slow miles yesterday, trying to keep heart rate in the aerobic zone.

No further running to report as I managed to get my new trainers very dirty walking on Sunday (I was away for the weekend with limited footwear). I've cleaned them, so hopefully they will be dry tomorrow evening and I can squeeze in a run. I'm hoping to run 3 times this week, but I think that might be ambitious.

The plan is to start training properly for a half marathon properly next week. It's at the end of May, and I'm not sure whether to enter now, or wait until I'm a few weeks in with the training, just in case!

Whyareusernamessotricky · 29/01/2018 21:53

Chickened out of a run on Sunday as stayed in and kept warm. Today was supposed to be a rest day but I kicked myself out of the house and did a 10k. Do any of you find evening running so much harder? I seriously struggled to do it within the hour whereas in the morning, it's so much easier! Well done everybody and this mile count looks impressive! This is such a good thread to stay motivated through these cold, cold days!

1133.6

ClimbingPenguin · 30/01/2018 08:00

I can ding I’m more sluggish on a evening run although it’s more an inertia barrier. If I break through a certain speed barrier then I’m fine.

Another 4 miles to add. Was thinking of going to a circuits session instead of running back to the station today.

ClimbingPenguin · 30/01/2018 08:00

Find, not ding

emummy · 30/01/2018 10:39

Well done slippermaiden, hope you carry on enjoying running.
Brisk run in the forest, trying to lift my heels as the physio told me & did my fastest time for that route! Didn't try to increase my cadence this time, will have a go with the metronome on Thursday
