A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

Can I join? Ran a half marathon last year (Royal Parks) and never planning to do it again I (stupidly) did it while suffering from a really terrible cough and exacerbated it into a chest infection which took me out for weeks. Just trying to enjoy my running for the moment - out for a quick fartlek shortly Smile

Hello to all the newcomers, great to have lots more people on the thread.

I have a 13 month old, ran loads during maternity leave with him in the buggy and got news pbs at 5k/10k and HM. Just recovering from a knee injury with parkrun to add. Very very steady and knee was sore for last 5 mins of running which is annoying. I was gutted to miss out on all the extra parkrun’s over Christmas and new year.

The return to work and injury have halted my progress but hope to do as much as I can.

Hi everyone, I'm just back from parkrun. I'm almost 11 weeks post baby so still very slow but I'm getting there. Aiming to get my 100 shirt this year if DD allows it but more importantly getting my fitness back. I'm aiming to get a 10km done before she's 6 months old.

Yay! So lovely to see new people joining us! Welcome to you all! Hope those who are benched are healed soon.
parkrun this morning, quite fast for recent runs for me but I was late starting so my official time was pretty slow! Every Saturday they know I’m going to parkrun and every Saturday there’s some last minute disaster that means I’m late! 89.9

Great to see both familiar names and new folks on this thread. Just getting my running mojo back after a bad patch with niggly injuries. So a 5k, a parkrun and a mile to report so 7.2 to add to the total for me. Short term goals - get back to sub 30min parkrun by Eastertime.

This is my scheule.... so far!!

I'm a rubbish runner but I love running! Not too bothered about getting better at it, just enjoy races and being active. I'm 50 this year!

Oooh! I’m taking the total up to 100.2 with a parkrun this morning. Touristing at Southwark and despite having to walk 500m because of knee pain, I got a new PB! I’m really happy with that. Wasn’t keen on the course tho. Or the guy with a buggy who caused chaos... Hmm

anyways! Rest day tomorrow, although I’ll be walking >5km with the dogs :)

Bobbiepin · 07/01/2018 00:04

Would be interesting to know people's regular parkrun, or is that too outing?

eggofmantumbi · 07/01/2018 01:06

@Whyareusernamessotricky the Mersey tunnel 10khas a great reputation and good place for a city break!

Fizzyknickers · 07/01/2018 01:14

@bobbiepin my local is Wepre Park, North wales. I’ve done that one , Chester, Southwark today and Rosliston seems far. Where is yours?

@eggofmantumbi I keep looking at the tunnel 10k but I think I’m bottling it! BlushBlushBlush

Standingonlego · 07/01/2018 08:19

bobbiepin we have a dedicated parkrun thread...come join us, lots of folk to talk Home location, course experiences, tourism, volunteering and milestone t-shirt goals.

rosettesforjill · 07/01/2018 09:23

I have shamefully never done my local Parkrun Blush I am going to make more of an effort this year though to run and volunteer! My local is Riddlesdown if anyone runs there?

Taking the tally up to 104.01 after a nice little run yesterday. Up with my in-laws today and very much looking forward to a flat long (ish) run this morning. I live on a hill and I'm sure it's very good for me, but fuck me it never feels as if it gets easier Angry < my face about five minutes in!

sayhellotothelittlefella · 07/01/2018 09:24

Started getting serious with training today - 6 miles early this morning. My knees didn't feel too good by the last mile though so I think I need to see a physio again. In hindsight maybe I should have stuck to just the 5.

Sorry. Missed that last post.

Waited till 9:30 to go out today & it was still -6! Beautiful sunny day though. Stayed in town as a lot of the trails are coated in ice, had a lovely run.
Welcome all new posters, hope your running goes well. My nearest park run is probably Stonehaven, about 30 min drive away. Don't go often as ds has 08:30 swimming lessons in a Saturday.
Runningoutofcharge, you sound like me! Have given up on chasing times, now I look for races that I will enjoy. A pb is still nice though, if increasingly rare...

Bobbiepin · 07/01/2018 11:33

@standingonlego I'll have a nosy, thanks 😁

Doje · 07/01/2018 16:15

Coming to join if that's ok. 10 miles so far this January, so new total is 127.6.

Currently doing a nice 6k as my regular route, not sure when / if to take it up a notch yet.

NoCryingInEngineering · 07/01/2018 19:07

Are you out Banchory way then emummy? I used to live in Stonehaven but moved away south about 7yrs ago. My favourite run was out to Dunottar along the cliffs, just a fantastic buzz once your up there.

4.5 miles for me this afternoon at 10:10/mile which I was pretty happy with. Currently dithering about wether to try and enter some spring races & if so what distances.

132.1

emummy · 07/01/2018 19:41

Yes I am Nocrying! Dunottar is lovely, not run there but that's one to try. Might wait for the ice to go first! Go for it with the races. Do you want to do a new distance or do you have a favourite? I choose my races by how excited they make me feel!

emummy · 07/01/2018 19:42

The RunBalmoral 15 mile in April is fabulous, if you fancy a trip back north....

ClimbingPenguin · 07/01/2018 19:44

I’m coming back I promise. Had cold followed chest infection which took a second type of antibiotic before starting to respond. Planning on some easy commute running this week.

Got a half in 9 weeks and haven’t run for a month 😧

Lifeisabeach · 07/01/2018 20:03

Hi, can I join? Been running for a few years and started doing triathlons last year. Hoping to improve my running to make my triathlon performance better, as it’s my weakest of the three sports, so have been focusing on it for the last few weeks.

Finally starting to see some improvement - a 5k PB at parkrun a week ago and managing longer distances for my long run.

I’ve got an aquathlon next Sunday (400m swim and 5k run) and then a 5 mile race the weekend after. Also hoping to do a half marathon in my town in May.

This week I’ve done 14.2 miles so will add that on Smile

146.3 (don’t know how to do bold!)

NoCryingInEngineering · 07/01/2018 20:31

There's a 10miler in March that I'm looking at, but that might be too soon for me to get my distance up - I don't want to push too hard and get injured and DD will only be 7mo on the race day. I figure I can give myself until the end of January and see what my long run distances are like by then before I decide.

Whyareusernamessotricky · 07/01/2018 22:30

Well done everybody for getting out. I nearly bottled it today as it was so cold here and I was lacking motivation big time as long run day. I ran 5.5 miles in the end and so not too bad but should have run 6.5. Either way, better than nothing!
Thank you Egg for tip about Mersey tunnels and I'll definitely investigate. I also am remembering E Mummy's advice about running becoming a habit and then I'll find walking out of the front door easier!! Good luck all:)
