A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

Sounds like you’re doing great boomboo! Are there different speed groups within the club? It sounds like some of the faster people need to plan their routes to meet with the slower people better. Someone does have to be last and at my club everyone supports the slower people, you could always gain confidence on your own and pick it back up though?

boomboo · 01/08/2018 09:44

Thank you for the responses, it's made me feel a lot better this morning.

I'm going to keep going to the club because it is supportive but mix it up with some shorter runs in the week (time allowing) to build my speed up a bit.
It would be too easy to give up now and to be honest when I started I didn't even think I could do a mile. I can only keep improving Smile

Sounds like a good plan boomboo, the only way is up!
Soggy easy run in the rain tonight, very pleasant!

A laboured 3 from me today. Did a weights class last night and I’m never good the next day. Was going to do a squat / lunge class tonight but have a 10k on sun. Ideally I’d like to do a feel good, easy 5 miles tomorrow so thinking I’ll skip tonight’s class. (I’m mainly justifying why it’s ok to miss it here Grin).

New trainers and new watch arrived today! Sure this will mean super fast running tomorrow........ Wink

Steady 4 from me today.

I did my first 10k for a couple of weeks today.

Just sticking to a daily 5k these last few weeks, with it being school summers hols and having small children so no time. Felt good to have a big run today, I enjoyed it a lot and felt I'd missed the distance.

I'm sooooooooo looking forward to the cooler weather and the children being back at school.

emummy · 04/08/2018 10:51

Well done FATE, running in the summer can definitely be challenging.
Did the new trainers workBuster?!
Intervals this morning, went quite well although legs a bit achy.

27.2 (my miles + FATE's).

nbee84 · 04/08/2018 12:43

I love this weather but not for running! Did a hot 5k yesterday and 4k interval training on the treadmill this morning.

Warm & sticky & hilly run this morning, very glad to get home! Training is going ok though and with any luck the weather will be cooler for race day in September.

Thanks for the downhill running advice, emummy. Leaning forward helps a lot.

10.4 miles for me over the week. Finding it tough to get out the door. I have started the 5k to 10k programme and the stopping and walking for a minute then starting again is surprisingly hard for me.

Glad it helped AnotherOtter!
Speed session tonight, felt a bit tired but not too bad.

Easy run tonight; it's dh's birthday and dd1 got straight As in her exams, so we had a wee celebration. So didn't get out till 9 and it was nearly dark by the time I got home - beats getting up at 5 am though!

Haven't Updated for a while! I've done 9.3 Miles so far in August and today got a PB for my 5k! Was super happy & definitely felt like I could have kept the pace up the whole time (it was an interval run so 1k warm up, 1k hard, 1k recovery till 5k). Have a park run this Saturday so going to try a faster pace for the whole thing and see how I get on! It has more hills than today so not expecting it to be as good!

Good luck at parkrun Rocket.
Intervals in a hilly forest for me today, hard work but so nice and peaceful.

Tired legs today. So glad the schools start again soon & I can get back to my normal running routine! Steady long run done and have now been told we're going shopping for the afternoon. Great. Maybe I can just stay in the car!

emummy · 12/08/2018 11:43

Sorry 104.8

nbee84 · 12/08/2018 13:31

9.7 miles this week. So glad it's cooler, nice to be able to go out for a run at lunchtime today. Need to build my distance back up slowly again as I've only been running about 5k in the heat.

IRun4Me · 12/08/2018 16:20

A very cool and comfortable 4.5 miles this morning with the dog. I really enjoyed it and did in a good time even though I didn’t necessarily intend to. Hopefully this is the start of my running mojo coming back.

emummy - I’m very jealous of your terrain. All I have is a flat agricultural landscape or looping around the village where I live.

I'm loving the cool, breezy weather we had this week. Only had two runs and have deleted the bridge to 10k app as just can't stand the stop-start wall-run. I must have a particularly strong vasoconstriction response when I stop running to maintain my blood pressure as my heart rate drops. So when I start running again, not enough blood flow to my poor legs! Anyway, just increasing by half a mile every week or two and I'll get to 10k eventually. The fact that I can't stick to either metric or imperial is silly though.

FATEdestiny · 12/08/2018 20:54

Not updated my total at all this month. 5k every day. Plan to restart 10k and longer runs when the children are back at school. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Just wanted to share my small achievement here. This morning was the first time I've ever got a 1k split time under 6 minutes.

I came recall the first time I got a (single) split time under 7 minutes. It wasn't long from getting the odd one or two splits that they became consistently under 7 minutes. I hope I can start seeing more 5-minute-something on my splits. Edging closer to 5k under 30 minutes.

That's brilliant FATE, well done!

RocketPockets · 13/08/2018 23:22

Fate that's awesome well done!! I have loved seeing my split times come down recently and am aiming for a 30 minute 5k as well Smile

emummy · 14/08/2018 21:25

Tempo run tonight, hard work! Warmer again today, but not too hot and a nice breeze.

I keep dropping off these! New trainers have helped, but I think I have some issues on the soles of my feet that new trainers won’t fix. Not sure if veruca or blisters! Do any of you use a podiatrist? Thinking that is way to go!

I did a 10k race a couple of weeks ago, was way off my usuals pace was a bit disheartening but hey ho!
