A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

Yes LadyLance it is just working my way up to the inevitable half Marathon. Still not convinced!

Thank you both for the welcome.

LadyLance · 12/03/2018 23:00

emummy In the last couple of years I seem to have stopped bouncing though!

geekone I'm aiming for my first half marathon in May- I've entered but I'm still not entirely convinced it's a good idea!

emummy · 13/03/2018 11:13

Nice sunny morning for an interval session on the hilly forest trails. 2 miles of them still covered in snow! Thankfully a lot softer and shallower now. Felt good, not especially fast.

Club run and a 3 from last night. Stepped up a group for a couple of legs in club run-nearly killed me but I did it!

In Venice for a mini break and went for a run this morning, it was great- lots of beautiful scenery and very flat except for a few bridges!

BusterTheBulldog · 14/03/2018 22:04

Wow-good work LadyLance! Enjoy your break Smile

emummy · 15/03/2018 12:02

That sounds brilliant LadyLance!
9 easy paced muddy miles this morning, very very windy! Am totally frozen, going to stand in shower for the rest of the day!

BusterTheBulldog · 15/03/2018 13:35

A steady lunch 4 from me. My legs felt like lead, remembered half way that I’d upped my weights last night at pump, must remember not to do that and try and run the next day next time!

Hope you warm up soon emummy.

Hello! I'd like to join.

I have been running for a while, I'm doing my 6th half marathon next weekend (the day after my birthday!). I have just managed to get DP out a few times with me too.

Today, I did 3 miles tempo. In the rain, which cleared up as soon I as had sloshed through the front door!

stegosauruslady · 15/03/2018 15:38

Oh, I'm at 197 for the year thus far!

LadyLance · 15/03/2018 17:52

Hi stegosauruslady 6 half marathons sounds pretty impressive.

Just so you know, the number in bold is the thread total for the month- so we all add our miles on. I'm pretty sure I haven't run 150 miles this year so far! 197 for the year so far sounds very good though!

emummy I can't wait until running 9 miles feels easy!

That sounds like hard work Buster hope your next run is a bit easier!

No miles from me today, as I spent most of the day traveling back home, but back to it at the gym tomorrow and going for an outdoor run this weekend- Every time I run not on a treadmill, I realise how different it is and how much I need to practice, but there always seems to be a reason not to ;)

Anyway, I think the thread total should be 168

stegosauruslady · 16/03/2018 10:19

Oops! OK, well I have the hang of how the thread works now! Thank you @LadyLance!

I have just got in from 5 miles, rainy and cold. Who is looking forward to long runs at the weekend? I have 13 miles planned for Sunday, I'm going to get the train and then run home...I say home, I will actually finish at Macdonalds for a Grand Big Mac Grin

emummy · 16/03/2018 11:14

Hideous weather this morning, strong winds, horizontal sleet. Frozen again! Cut run short by 2 miles as my thighs were getting too cold. Managed a good pace so that's good. Can we have Spring now please?!
Welcome stegosauruslady! I will be doing 14 miles this Sunday but sadly no MacDonalds around here! A Big Mac sounds like the perfect way to end a run! My daughter made me waffles last week, wonder if I can bribe her to do it again?

LadyLance · 16/03/2018 12:27

@stegosauruslady Running to macdonalds sounds like an excellent plan. I'm currently training for my first half marathon, so not up to running 13 miles yet!

@emummy we don't have snow down here like you do but I am so desperate for some proper sunshine! Bring on spring definitely!

5.1 miles in the gym today, ran for an hour which is the longest I've managed so far. Starting to feel like I can really do this!

185.1

emummy · 18/03/2018 11:34

Another run in the snow, not deep though so it was ok. Also less windy & wet.

199.4

stegosauruslady · 18/03/2018 15:44

13 miles done! Grand Big Mac consumed!

212.4

BusterTheBulldog · 18/03/2018 18:26

Well done everyone! We had a dumping of snow here so my planned 12 went out the window and I only managed 5. I’m hoping to try and fit in longer runs tomorrow and tues in to make up. Frustrating though!!

Jealous of your Big Mac stegasaurausLady!

217.8

LadyLance · 19/03/2018 12:23

Unlike everyone else, I wasn't brave enough to run in the snow! Well done!

The sun is out again today though so I did 3.5 miles this morning. I don't think that's enough to justify a big mac Sad

221.3

BusterTheBulldog · 19/03/2018 21:01

Shivery 7 from me today, not enough for the Big Mac, but fancied cheesy chips tonight, we only had Brie in which turns out to be absolutely heavenly on chips!! Back to trying to be healthy tomorrow Grin

228.3

emummy · 20/03/2018 10:49

Oh Buster that sounds amazing! Think you've started a new trend stegosauruslady!
Beautiful sunny run in the woods today, snow mostly gone, just a few icy patches. Good fartlek session.

234.75

stegosauruslady · 20/03/2018 11:25

Haha! Post run burgers rock. It should be a trend!

3 miles today. Tapering sucks.

237.75

LadyLance · 21/03/2018 11:04

Brie on chips sounds amazing!

Went for a run in the sun today and did some hill work. I'm rubbish at pacing myself outdoors, so running up hills helps because they slow me down. It works very different muscles to running in the gym though!

Cycling tomorrow, then one more run to fit in before the end of the week!

3.8 miles to add making the thread total 241.55

BusterTheBulldog · 21/03/2018 13:43

Seems like a few of us are enjoying some sunny runs now which is nice after this loooong winter!

Do you have a race this weekend stegosauraus?

An 7 on Monday and an 8 from me yesterday, my husband came to running club with me last night, I’m not sure how I feel about this at the moment? Hopefully it will just be occasional!

256.55

stegosauruslady · 21/03/2018 14:17

BusterTheBulldog Yes! I have a half. I'm going for a big PR too, quite looking forward to it!
