A thread for all things running in 2018.

This is the 11th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 29.2 for January.

Oops, cross post, welcome popcorn, that will be a good challenge! 65.9

bibblebobblebubble · 03/02/2018 22:50

Welcome popcorn!

Feeling very chuffed today as I knocked almost a minute off my parkrun PB - the interval training is working!

Long run today, plus a few more the last few days...can add 39.3 to the total.

So Feb total up to 108.3

emummy · 04/02/2018 12:33

I've been for a run. Hurray! Went a bit later than planned, thanks to bad heartburn in the night messing up my sleep. Just did 5k circuit from my house, felt quite tough then Tomtom tells me my pace was in top 17% for women my age! Pleased with that, but I hadn't intended to run fast(ish!). Finding it hard to lift my heels, drive with my knees but do a slower pace. And that was without the metronome! Well, back on the trails next week, that should slow me down!

Walk-run with dd2 after 2 week break. She's up to 9 minutes running now, aiming for 10 next week

10 today, there’s a massive hill in the middle-nearly killed me! Done now though.

4 from thurs too.

Felt tired and sluggish today so had planned a bath and a glass of wine while my dh went for a run. He decided not to go so I went instead! Feeling very pleased with myself. Not the fastest but did 3.5 miles.

One of my knees has been feeling tight and sore in between runs, is fine when I’m actually running. Does anyone have any tips? Would a knee support help?

Might have that glass of wine now....

Everyone's runs are looking very impressive! I did 1.4 miles today as part of a mixed gym session. Going to run at least twice more before Friday.

Thread total is 132.3

Pinkponiesrock · 05/02/2018 12:17

I did Parkrun on Saturday, DH and DS meet me down there.
Little 7 yo DS ran the whole thing, just missing out on a sub 30, if there wasn’t a huge hill which you have to do 3 times he’d have got it!
Anyway 5 miles from me on Saturday, nothing since as I’ve had an epic hangover from Saturday night GinWineGin
Went to Pilates this morning then running club tomorrow.

Pinkponiesrock · 05/02/2018 12:21

popcorn
I’d guess you probably need to stretch more, try a YouTube runners stretches/yoga session. There’s some that are only 10 mins long. I find they really help.

When you’re running your muscles will be warming up but when you stop and they cool and stiffen that’s when you’ll be sore, lots of gentle stretching should help. Won’t do any harm anyway!

emummy · 06/02/2018 11:53

Tough run in the snow this morning, guess I am not as recovered from my tummy bug as I thought I was! Very hilly, did lots of walking, but on the plus side, it was a new and really nice route, some great views, and I did it!

143.3

LadyLance · 06/02/2018 12:00

Running in the snow sounds hard work! Luckily I'm in the south and don't have to worry about that too much!

Ran/walked 5k today- because I was putting in the walk sections, I was able to actually run faster on the running sections and managed it in sub 40 mins. At the moment I'm finding this a lot easier than trying to run slowly for the whole distance. Plan is to run for 30 mins on Thursday and then I will have finished the whole first week on my half marathon training plan (and I might actually sign up to it!).

Thread total is now 146.4

familygermsareok · 06/02/2018 15:40

Well done LadyLance, it's great when you see the improvements coming on. Go for it, sign up for that hm! Smile

emummy sounds like you have a nice new route there. Sorry you are still not 100%, but it does sound tough. Your Tomtom pace earlier was very impressive!

Pinkponies huge well done to your DS, that's brilliant! Was it St Andrews parkrun? Description of three times over big hill familiar......! Not my closest one but have done it a few times.

Trail run with club last night. Not a hilly one for a change, but the fast runners were out so the pace was pretty challenging for me
Felt good, always love the trail runs.

emummy · 06/02/2018 16:22

I think pinkponies is describing the Stonehaven park run - nasty wee hill that! Thanks for the warning about St Andrews family, another one to avoid!

familygermsareok · 06/02/2018 17:02

Ah, thanks emummy. I guess there are a lot of hilly parkruns around that would fit that description Grin I will beware Stonehaven!
Montrose is nice and flat, but it does have some rabbit hole hazards for extra excitement!

Pinkponiesrock · 06/02/2018 18:13

Yep we are Stonehaven parkrunners, it’s a steep one! On strava it’s named ‘that fecking hill’ Grin
After this weekend I may adventure out and try some other ones, they’ll seem easier at least!

Off to club tonight, really CBA!!

Popcorninapot · 06/02/2018 20:46

Ran with a friend tonight, managed 3.5 miles but hard as my knee was sore and was doing a 5:2 fast day today. But done and now soup for dinner....

155.4

Whyareusernamessotricky · 06/02/2018 21:04

I've been quiet for past week as has a horrible tummy bug and haven't run at all! Tried today as didn't want to start up again too soon and all was well and hardest thing was walking out the door. Got 4 weeks until Bath Half and good luck to everybody else running in this hideous weather!!!

160.2

BusterTheBulldog · 06/02/2018 22:34

6 tonight and 3.5 yest from me. Have 30k ‘race’ on sun, I’m going to do normal gym classes tomorrow, 4mile run and class on thurs and then maybe nothing till Sunday race day. Does that sound ok? Should I be doing a short run on sat maybe?

169.7

LadyLance · 08/02/2018 10:21

Good luck Buster

Just squashed in a 30 minute run, managed 2.5 miles and feeling good. I'm not sure I'll be able to run at all until Monday now- maybe I'll squeeze something in on Sunday though.

LadyLance · 08/02/2018 10:22

Sorry thread total is now 172.2

emummy · 08/02/2018 11:01

Hope you are feeling better tricky, tummy bugs are awful.
Much better run today. Took dog for a walk first then ran on my own. Still a bit tired but feeling more optimistic about starting marathon training in 2 or 3 weeks now.

BusterTheBulldog · 08/02/2018 21:04

Found out I have a ballot place for great north run too, super excited!

bibblebobblebubble · 08/02/2018 21:35

Ooh exciting buster! I'm waiting on ballot results for Royal Parks Half tomorrow.... have my fingers crossed.

Only a short one this morning but hoping to do 10k tomorrow...

emummy · 08/02/2018 21:51
