1.3km done!!

1.6 is the aim for next week...... And if I really move it, 2km before the month is out. That may be progressing too fast. Not sure.

The Embassy sounds so much more exotic than the reality!

Well done sand.

Just see how you feel regarding distance.

1K done at lunch time.

I have a visa for China AND new eye brows.

OP posts:
TheMShip · 18/10/2017 14:33

Congrats on the visa, rights! Hope the eyebrows are a good thing and not the result of an experiment gone terribly wrong ... Grin

Finally back in for a proper 2km this afternoon and I feel much better about life, the universe, and everything.

SandLand · 18/10/2017 15:18

Fab day, rights.
Where in China are you off to? Wondering if you will be there same time as DH in mid Nov?

Hissy · 18/10/2017 15:39

Good work Sand! Just slow it down to keep going

I had a quick dip on monday 1k, but was tired from masters session.

Adorable OH was sharing a lane, I was struggling to get into the zone, so he was going to practice backstroke while my intention was to focus on slow laps to get some distance chunks, like up to 1k with turns.

So he asked the only guy in the double slow lane next to us if they could swim together, bloke said yes, other half hopped in and I set off.

75m in, head down and all of a sudden nearly swam straight into someone in my lane. Yup, bloke from double slow lane had decided to join my lane - even though OH had said not to... Lucky he told me that when we were halfway home in the car.

OH reckons that its the slow lane mentality... so we'll go in the fast lane next week and if someone faster turns up (highly unlikely on a Monday if the last few weeks is anything to go by) we'll move, and eventually a second lane always opens up so I could get a good 15 mins or so to myself to do some head down, not sharing swimming :D

sand I'll be in Shenzhen for a bit (conference) and then go to Hong Kong (work). I will be home again come mid Nov.

Please could I join? I have just started swimming again - it's probably been 20 years!!!
I'm disabled, used to run a lot but it was too high impact so my GP suggested I try swimming.
My first time I think I struggled to 8 laps and nearly died but after 3 weeks of going 1 or 2 times a week I'm up to between 30 and 40 laps. I'm not really slow but I'm also never going to win any races!! I'm really hoping I can build some muscle strength back up in my arms and legs Smile

rightsofwomen · 19/10/2017 06:34

Welcome mommy.

Well done for getting back in the pool after all those years and for your great improvement.

You will most definitely build up muscle strength.

Wave to DH in HK then, rights

Welcome mommy. I'm new here too, and this lot are lovely!

TheMShip · 19/10/2017 08:43

Hi mommy That's impressive getting up to 30-40 laps within 3 weeks! Welcome to the club!

Comeonmommy · 19/10/2017 08:48

Thank you for the welcome and hello to everyone 👋. It's a bit addictive isn't it? Or is it just me??!! I tried to go 4 times last week and am suffering for it - I'm not very good at stopping when my body says to!!!!!

SingingAvocado · 19/10/2017 09:15

Welcome mommy. You've done so well to go from 8 to 40 in three weeks! Amazing. Yes, it is addictive. I've probably gone back sooner than I should have after a cold but I feel guilty when I don't go! I go three times a week. Great to find exercise that suits you …

Hissy · 19/10/2017 17:53

We’re off to Edinburgh in the New Year for a work jolly.

Oh yes I’m eyeing up the Royal Commonwealth pool’s 50m sessions... fingers crossed I’ll be able to get a session in...

TheMShip · 19/10/2017 21:19

Hissy the Commie's lovely! Edinburgh in the winter is a bit grim though Grin

Hissy · 19/10/2017 23:16
Grin

I’m there for the weekend, arrive Friday afternoon and back home in time for Masters swimming m on Sunday

So thinking Friday afternoon swim the. Saturday potter about, dinner with the company and then back home

Hissy · 19/10/2017 23:20

We had an interesting night tonight, usual pool session cancelled so we went over to the 50m pool and ended up training with the top 2 swimmers (preparing for nationals)

They’re so kind and generous, offered us to share their lane and do their training session

I didn’t take my watch tonight, so no idea what distance, between sprints and drills it was a good 2k.

I need to push myself harder tho. I know this

PlateOfBiscuits · 21/10/2017 10:38

Can I join?

I have a chronic pain condition and really like being in the water (on holiday etc) as the weightlessness helps so much with the pain. I don’t normally swim though, just ‘bob’.

But yesterday I did 50 lengths! I was so proud of myself! I could have kept going forever and ever.

Got home and promptly fell asleep for four hours but never mind that - I did it!

SingingAvocado · 21/10/2017 10:52

PlateOfBiscuits you are extremely welcome. I remember how being in a pool took the weight off when I was pregnant so can imagine it must relieve pain too. 50 lengths is amazing and you should be very proud of yourself. Yippee!

lljkk · 23/10/2017 15:30

Ooh... I got some nice results in my email inbox. Last week, 9min+2 seconds for 400m (swimtag).
That was a morning I got annoyed with another swimmer (stupid dispute, not my finest moment). Still, I'm quite happy with that 400metre time (PB). A bit of swimming-pool-rage can be useful. :)

SandLand · 23/10/2017 18:20

Nice swimming lljkk.

PlateOfBiscuits · 23/10/2017 19:46

Well done on the swim lljkk. What was the rage about?

TriGirl007 · 23/10/2017 21:34

Had a chilled out swim tonight no idea on distance but kept going for 35-40mins so prob a 1k. Mixed it up with some backstroke tonight & float kicking as I’m still nursing back pain but it felt ok.
Welcome plateofbiscuits sounds like you had gd swim.

lljkk · 24/10/2017 07:44

PlateofBiscuits: I don't want to explain it all. Put it this way: 4 people were trying to be in the same small bit of swim pool all in the same 5 second window. Someone moaned I was the person who did wrong. I reckon that there were 3 other people who easily could have made better decisions, too.

SandLand · 24/10/2017 10:02

You really need to come swim with me. 4 of us this morning!

1.6km. I'm wrecked. Not helped by a 2 hr shopping spree with a soon to be teen who flys back to school tonight.....
