Uhhhhh haven’t been in the pool for 2 wks and only had 1.5swins this month Sad the 0.5was Swim with my youngest so a slow 10L and watching her dive n somersault. Can’t find my swim mojo all feels too cold & wet Grin will try to make myself go tonight. Have been running lots though so my body really needs the cross training.

Megthehen · 30/01/2019 09:45

It can be hard to motivate yourself sometimes. Read a very inspirational swimming book recently "Swell - a waterbiography". Might help get your swimming mojo back? Swimming with small children is hard..I always want to break away and do my own thing.....
now I can. So pleased I didn't give up...35 years of regular swimming and still going strong Smile

TriSkiRun99 · 30/01/2019 14:41

Ooh I like a good book Megthehen I will see if the library have it. Went for a run at lunchtime as sun was out so not sure if I’ll swim later.

TriSkiRun99 · 30/01/2019 20:14

Went for a swim yah! But ugh it was busy & choppy in the pool with all the January folk I should have gone to my usual pool not my DDs training one.

8FencingWire · 03/02/2019 08:47

I went to the pool, stripped and realised I forgot my swimming costume at home🤬. Then it snowed and rained and I didn’t dare drive the car, the roads were shocking. Then my period came and it’s heavy enough to make me worried about being in the pool. Sorry for the TMI. But what do you guys do? Is it ok to just use a tampon and then go for it (when it’s quite heavy I mean)? Am I being a wuss?

8FencingWire · 03/02/2019 08:48

Bottom line is I haven’t swam once this week and I’m getting withdrawal symptoms.

lljkk · 03/02/2019 19:47

I've done that... left a cozzie & goggles & other necessaries out of the bag. Only discovered upon arrival. Arrgggh.
On the rag time: I have a mooncup . I'm light & brief, anyway.

8FencingWire · 04/02/2019 22:20

Right, I went, for only 15 mins but I did it. I felt uneasy leaving my DD for some reason, I’m normally fine with it, tonight it felt..not right to be out for too long.
But I feel much better for it and I really belted it, my joints feel much better for it :)
lljk, never tried the mooncup, I’m not sure why.
I was tempted to go out to reception and buy replacements, but that would have been pricey, so I resisted 🤣.

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 04/02/2019 22:31

@8FencingWire my understanding is that period flow somehow slows or the water stops it up (what?) when you're in water. Think of when you're in the bath during your period - it doesn't seem to flow out so much. Yeah...that's my scientific explanation! So you should be ok even on quite heavy days.

I use a mooncup. I find sport really helps with cramps.

Anyway, I'm still managing my 1k a week. Doing the swimathon end of March with 4 others I.e. 1k each.

Also The Open Water Swim posse got pissed together the other night and we are all going to try and do some OWS this year. We did quite a few in 2017 but circumstances got in the way last year.

flamingnoravera · 04/02/2019 22:45

I'm feeling swim deprived. A two week cold and return to work after the break had messed up all my routines.
Tomorrow I must swim- I've no shower or loo at home due to a new floor going into my bathroom so the pool is my sanctuary. I'm not going to use the pool as a loo obv but I will get to use their loos and showers :)
I know I'll get my mojo back after a single 1km swim.

8FencingWire · 04/02/2019 23:14

Thank you for that, origin, I’ll bear that in mind. I’m going to remember it for the next time I’m feeling a bit aprehensive.
Like you, I find that exercising whilst on my period helps with the cramps, seems to go faster as well.

flamingo, I got withdrawal symptoms after a week 😂. Enjoy tomorrow (and your new floor :) )

TriSkiRun99 · 06/02/2019 06:01

Swam last night,it was a real effort to make myself go so only 800m but I had to renew my membership or lose it so I’ve signed up for another 6mths and therefore have to go 6x a month to make it pay.

flamingnoravera · 06/02/2019 19:16

I swam before work this morning, it felt fab to be up and swimming again. 1km crawl in 25 mins. I'm happy with that.

8FencingWire · 06/02/2019 19:41

That’s a really good time :)
I went today for 30 mins, did 20 laps and then it got really crowded. So I left. But boy do I enjoy it!

TriSkiRun99 · 08/02/2019 21:02

Quick evening swim 800m logged, before I had to collect my DD from her club.

flamingnoravera · 08/02/2019 21:55

I went to the over 50s session today, it was the only one I could get to. I'm 57 so it's fine. Did my usual 1km crawl . There are two of us who swim at a pace and we weave in and out of the pootlers. It's lovely, I get "ooh you're so fast how do you do it?" And "ere you's a bit quick love" and in the showers we are all nattering about grandkids and shampoo and how the lockers are shite. I love my local pool.

TriSkiRun99 · 08/02/2019 22:22

Sounds grand flamingnoravera give me a few more years and I’ll qualify Grin too. We have a ladies hour instead on Thursday night which is popular at our local pool, a real mix of powerful swimmers wracking up km and those with dry hair breastroke chatters across the lanes.

MinnieMountain · 10/02/2019 15:28

I'm back swimming after a rest due to snow and period. I get sudden "floods" so I don't swim during despite using a mooncup.

Did 1.5km on Friday and 3km today. It feels so good to be in there even when it gets busy.

8FencingWire · 14/02/2019 07:05

I totally get you minnie, it really lifts my spirits after a good swim.
I went yesterday for a swim, and that felt amazing :)
I have a few days on my own this weekend, I’ll go again :)

TriSkiRun99 · 14/02/2019 08:58

Tried to swim Tuesday night - I did last 30L but the club hadn’t turned the lights on in the pool & I got in as sun was setting (it’s outside underbig polytunnel), So as the light was fading it was getting darker & darker in the pool and only the flood lights from outside & emergency exit lights were on! I kept thinking they will notice in a minute and flip the switch but the office didn’t! Doesn’t bode well for anyone watching the cctv in reception of the pool. I told them on my way out as I got out thinking it felt too unsafe and spooky (left one lady in there!) I think there was a new lady on reception but the duty mgr in the office should have been supervising. So an interesting experience!

boxcar · 17/02/2019 17:54

That sounds scary Tri!

Quick question about my Garmin 235. It was way out length counting this afternoon but is usually right. I did 2 lots of 400m. 1st one it said 375 (couldn’t have been - I would have been the other end of the pool) & the 2nd one it said 475 - same thing re which end of the pool & there was no way I swam that fast (times were very similar & a bit quicker than my usual time but that seems right as I’m getting stronger & I’ve had a good rest this week). Is there any reason why every now & again it gets it wrong?

8FencingWire · 17/02/2019 22:34

No idea box, sorry.
Managed 14 lenghts in the pool today. My head is so all over the place I could not coordonate my arms AT ALL.
I seem to go swimming twice a week. I’d like to up this to 3times a week, see how it goes.

tizwozliz · 22/02/2019 18:43

I need to up my game, my target is 300km for the year and I'm not quite on target at the moment. It's getting easier to motivate myself, now the daylight is coming back. Just need to swim minimum 3 times per week for the rest of the year...

boxcar · 24/02/2019 17:41

1k this afternoon & the pool to myself which was lovely. It’s half term for me this week & I’m hoping to fit in a couple more swims. 2 weeks to go to my first aquathlon.

TriSkiRun99 · 01/03/2019 21:22

Lunchtime swim playing with my FC arm trying a drilli I saw on you tube but spluttering instead Grin really needed a snorkel instead. And working on my breathing technique as I’d like to crack breathing both sides as I’m dominant on one side.
