lljkk Totally understand.

SandLand 1.6km sounds amazing!

I’m going swimming again tomorrow. I promised my partner I would only go once a week (so I wouldn’t be worn out). I’ve been secretly looking forward to it!

Hissy · 24/10/2017 18:19

Only half a dozen in the 50m pool last time I went!
Yummy! 😍

rightsofwomen · 25/10/2017 08:59

Reporting a 1/2 hr swim in the very, very nice hotel pool in Shenzhen, China. Yay. Not sure about my running. Long, long days and not sure how I feel about running in the dark here or on the treadmill.

This thread keeps dropping off my watch list?

SandLand · 26/10/2017 10:03

Your there, rights. Enjoy.

Save the running for HK, and then run "The Peak"

rightsofwomen · 26/10/2017 11:46

I did have a run on the treadmill - god awful things.
The main barrier is that my jet lag is opposite to how it is when I go to west coast USA, so instead of feeling raring to go at 5am I have been very rudely woken by my alarm at 6am.

Should be less busy in HK.

Another swim in the hotel pool last night. Nice.

Sounds lovely rigths
I’ve been 3x this week but each time with my youngest so just treading water mostly for me as she’s only just learnt to swim to the deep end and wants to dive Confused a lot which tests my nerve as I float about watching. Hopefully Monday I’ll get back to a decent swim for me.

lljkk · 28/10/2017 19:35

Sinus cold. Swim for 47 minutes (poolside clock which is analog so fuzzy time estimate).
(The apple shaped ladies doing breaststroke were almost beating me).

When I finish, Poolside swimtag Box says 60 lengths.
Get home, swim tag says 69 lengths (sigh) in 48.5 minutes.
Anyone want to vote on how many lengths I did tonight? :)

TeaAndToast85 · 28/10/2017 20:00

I really want to go swimming regularly, as I'm pregnant and overweight, and want to be more active. But I keep not going! I tell myself 'oh the pool will be too busy now' or 'I just washed my hair so it would be silly to get it wet'. What I'm basically saying is that I am a lazy cow Smile hopefully I will go this week.

lljkk · 28/10/2017 20:02

It's a habit, TeaAndToast. Once you have the habit, it's easier to keep it up.

I am very mean with my money & I have a monthly membership. I need to go twice a week to get value, so knowing I have already paid makes me go regularly.

Oddsocks15 · 29/10/2017 11:18

Had a 1:1 swimming lesson today to get started as my technique is pants. My fitness is rubbish, struggling with my breathing, but have booked another lesson for next week. Got to get motivated to practice in the week now Shock

SandLand · 29/10/2017 11:45

lljkk. I vote for 129 lengths - the sum of the total Grin.

lljkk · 29/10/2017 14:45

ha! Grin
I decided on 60. I felt like I was plodding...

SandLand · 29/10/2017 14:51

Actually, it's an easy one to sort out. Did you get out at the end you go in at??? Ie shallow end to shallow end or deep to deep??? Because that makes it the 60.
If you got in at the deep/out at shallow (or vise versa) its an odd number so the 69.

That's assuming you dont swimm in a stupid pool like mine that is 2m deep at the shallow end, and 2.2m at the deep end.... so basically, just deep!

AdjustingTheSails · 29/10/2017 14:59

Hi All, sorry to intrude. I’ve recently started swimming again at the pool at work. I’m fairly competent and can easily swim 1k without to much effort but I get so bored. Really bored. What do you all do? I’ve been meaning to try headphones but don’t know which are good? I really want to get back into it as it works for me fitness wise so need to sort the boredom issue Grin. Anyone got tips?

AdjustingTheSails · 29/10/2017 15:00

too not to

lljkk · 29/10/2017 15:01

You're right, SandLand, the number has to be even since I started & finished at same end. The real question is... what if the real number is 68... or 62? Maybe an extra 9 got added when I left the wristband in locker during my shower. We were warned not to wear it in the shower because it can count extra lengths there.

I don't mind accepting a minimum estimate, still more accurate than me counting, sadly!

SingingAvocado · 30/10/2017 09:40

Welcome Tea and Toast, Adjusting the Sails and Oddsocks. I agree with lljkk that having membership is a good incentive. I cover my membership fee if I go twice a week. I usually go three times so think I am in profit! Also, if you can make it fit your schedule rather than trying to adjust your schedule to fit it you should find you go more often. I shower and wash my hair in the mornings and so started to go in the mornings (early) and come home to still shower and wash my hair. It works for me! Re boredom, I just keep count! That is quite a challenge in itself (I count batches of 10 lengths). I offered to take my neighbour swimming with me and she said she'd get too bored! It helps too that I've got friendly with some people at the pool and we often have a chat at the end.

rightsofwomen · 30/10/2017 14:54

In Hong Kong and reporting 1K swim in outdoor pool. Yeah!

lljkk · 30/10/2017 15:45

Usually I can find something to obsess mull over so I don't get bored. Like when to go shopping or what to have for tea or list 16 things about some situation that irritate me and even try to rank them in order. I'm pretty comfy in my own thoughts, though.

Hissy · 30/10/2017 15:47

OOOH *rights, where is it? my lovely OH is off to HK in a week or so, I'd love to give him a heads up - not to mention he'll LOVE to make me jealous!

rightsofwomen · 30/10/2017 16:37

Hope it was heated this time of year!
Tsim Sha Tsui is fantastic, just dont try to swim across the harbour!

Hoping to swim in my unheated pool tomorrow first thing.

rightsofwomen · 31/10/2017 03:51

Yes, it was heated. Had to keep swimming to keep warm as air was quite cool (it was 8pm). Very nice hot tub and post swim showers. Heck...I could get used to this though the office is in the middle of a grotty industrial estate near an Amoy factory
