Panic moment, we were running out of room on old thread so started a new one for today's run reports Smile

Mine was cancelled today at the last minute. Fallen tree on course. Blocking most of the path so would have been unrealistic to run 500+ going for it - the 25-30 minutes pack would have got snarled up. As it was I did a negative split steadyish 5k on the route which was pleasing!

MyBlackCat · 29/07/2017 19:25

random is your home run Telford? Saw that it was cancelled last minute - I've run it a couple of times Smile

I ran at my home course today before some tourism next week. Parkrun 95 for me today!

Teacupinastorm · 29/07/2017 21:27

Home run and a PB for me Grin managed to get sub 40 which has been my target for ages so I'm very happy. Tourism next week, won't be going for a time, just enjoying the run and scenery. It's a run which usually has around 50 people which will be very different from the 600+ that I'm used to!

randomsabreuse · 30/07/2017 07:45

Correct black cat. I prefer Wyre Forest and Ludlow but DD and DH prefer the town park!

SoPassRemarkable · 30/07/2017 07:51

Did my first one yesterday in 37 mins. Strava tracked me as having done 6k. Is strava inaccurate or have I zigzagged round the course so much I did an extra k?

MyBlackCat · 30/07/2017 09:04

random where is wyre forest? My folks are Shropshire based, so far I've done Telford, Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton on my visits but always looking for new ones Smile

randomsabreuse · 30/07/2017 15:13

Wyre Forest is just outside Bewdley at the forestry visitor centre. Single lap and starts downhill (after a token "up" because downhill starts are not allowed). Finish is uphill. It's on forest hardcore trails but road shoes have been fine, unlike Ludlow where trail shoes are best unless there is a borderline drought!

Not a huge one - much smaller than Telford but slightly bigger than Ludlow

MyBlackCat · 30/07/2017 19:12

Thanks - I may try that one next time I'm at my parents Smile

MelanieCheeks · 01/08/2017 20:38

Absolutely lovely course at Edinburgh

MyBlackCat · 04/08/2017 21:13

Who's running tomorrow??

I'm touristing at Holkham - my 19th different parkrun course. Planning to run the 2.5 miles there and back too Smile

Standingonlego · 04/08/2017 23:50

I am touristing tomorrow - at Brierley Forest with DS1, my mum is marshalling Smile

Hi everyone, used to run a lot (for pleasure, never too bothered about racing) but had a difficult pregnancy and complicated delivery a few years ago, a lot of weight gained! Injuries followed when I started running again so after lots of physio I'm just getting back to it!

Been mostly running on a treadmill to force myself to pace properly and was avoiding up and down hills due to knee injury but plan to try a few outdoor runs and see how it goes. Would love to do parkrun but my local one is quite fast (and I'm currently very slow!) with practically everyone coming in under 35mins. Can anyone recommend a north London course which is fairly beginner friendly for those of us who need confidence building?! All going well would hope to start in September.

AuntieStella · 09/08/2017 09:12

Miolmor

Have you had a look at the link cinnamon posted on 18 July. It'll help you choose the flattest courses as you strengthen your knee. You can browse the whole list (and see which you can reach) or check the undulations on the courses you can reach easily.

I think it's always friendly at the back!

TriJo · 12/08/2017 15:29

Miolmor Where in north London?

I found Canons Park absolutely lovely when I did it, very relaxed compared to some of the bigger ones and quite flat.

Highbury Fields is relatively flat too but dull - 5.5 laps isn't for everyone and if you're towards the back it can be a bit disheartening.

Oak Hill is lovely too - flat-ish and quite friendly.

If East London is ok, Hackney Marshes is pancake flat and only one lap.

Avoid Hampstead Heath, Ally Pally and possibly Finsbury Park if hills will be an issue.

AuntieStella · 12/08/2017 16:22

I've been visiting family, and ran Bushy Park today as a tourist with SIL.

A select gathering of a mere 1209 runners ....

totaldiva · 12/08/2017 20:54

Why did no one tell me about Parkrun before... Grin

Did my first today (for context, very overweight, late 30s). I've been doing a bit of running and was encouraged by my lovely friend.

I ran the whole hilly course in 42 minutes and I feel like an absolute legend! Grin

I was so nervous beforehand but everyone was so nice, lots of encouragement. Brilliant fun, anyone trying to decide whether to go, just go!

StrongerThanIThought76 · 13/08/2017 01:14

My strava logged me at 5.6km this morning on the same route I did 5 weeks ago at 5.3km. Other runners range from 4.9 to 5.2km, any ideas?

MyBlackCat · 13/08/2017 14:49

Love it totaldiva - you are a legend Smile

Ran my local course yesterday nice and steady, #97 three more until the big one Grin

Teacupinastorm · 13/08/2017 17:18

Well done @totaldiva Grin Every week I always wonder why I'm doing it and think I'll drop out. I always finish the run and 99% of the time feel mega chuffed with myself! I'm fairly new to running and not the fastest, steadily knocking down my time and the encouragement from everyone is mega. I hope you're now hooked!

AuntieStella · 18/08/2017 16:47

Getting in the mood for tomorrow?

Here's a question to ponder (shamelessly nicked from Bushy Parkrun run report from the Glorious Twelfth)

"If an alien flew over Bushy Park on Saturday morning and saw more than a thousand scantily-clad creatures of all shapes and sizes running without any predators in pursuit... would it think we were crazy? And would it be right?"

MyBlackCat · 18/08/2017 19:47

Does anyone know if they have any olympians at their parkrun tomorrow? I've just read on Facebook that Mo Farah is tailwalking at Cannon Hill, Birmingham.

Not heard of any are at my local run

Standingonlego · 18/08/2017 20:14

Not heard of any Olympians here....maybe Greg Rutherford at Milton Keynes? He has his good postbox there!

Ellie Robinson is tail walking at Northampton

Fikee · 18/08/2017 22:57

Doing my first parkrun tomorrow and i'm a mix of excitement and nerves. I'm new to running (c25k) and I really don't want to be last....horrible flashbacks to humiliating pe lessons at school. I looked at the stats for my local group and everyone seems pretty good. Still nothing ventured nothing gained. Please tell me others felt the same before they started?
