Panic moment, we were running out of room on old thread so started a new one for today's run reports Smile

Well it's done. First Parkrun now under my belt. Very chuffed. Time was dismal, but I got first in my age group (got last in my age group as well iyswim ha!).bring on next Saturday!
Have fun everyone

Gymntonic · 12/05/2018 12:16

Only the second park run of the year for me but pb by 30 seconds so am verySmile
Hope everyone had a good one

JustGettingStarted · 12/05/2018 13:25

I beat my previous pb on my home course by 59 seconds! However, it's still slower than my best time on any parkrun, which I got on a very flat course three weeks ago.

AuntieStella · 12/05/2018 20:56

I was just outside my PB, but still felt really good this morning!

Onthewrongsideof30 · 12/05/2018 22:50

PB today ! It would appear mild hangovers are good for running GrinNow aiming to crack 25mins ...... interesting regarding the water. As long as your well hydrated you shouldn't need one while you run. We live in the tropics and even when it's over 30 in the summer, no one carries water. Just have a drink waiting when you finish. Happy running

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 13/05/2018 07:46

Well done all

Also had mild hangover Grinand got a very comfortable 5k pb but it was a rave not a parkrun so I am ignoring the possibility that the course was short and noting that I will need to do it again at parkrun next week to get it in my results.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 18/05/2018 17:10

Who is running tomorrow?

JustGettingStarted · 19/05/2018 11:19

I toured Solihull today. Really beautiful park. I definitely didn't have a personal best! Took at least 20 seconds to start as they put you into corrals by time and there was a long slow shuffle for those of us at the back

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 19/05/2018 12:06

I had high hopes for a pb but it was very warm and I accidentally got drunk last night so making it round was a significant achievement

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 19/05/2018 12:49

Omg - results have come through and it was PB - perhaps being hungover is a secret weapon Hmm

parkruuuner · 20/05/2018 20:23

can i ask a question i was volunteering last satarday doing manual barcodes 3 people came up with theyer phones with barcodes on despite the clear directive of parkrun that they dont accept them i did because i thought it was not worth the hassle. did i do the correct thing.

JustGettingStarted · 20/05/2018 21:17

Did they scan?

parkruuuner · 20/05/2018 22:04

no my role was to write them down owrite the ones that for whatever the barcodes did not work

runningpink · 20/05/2018 22:53

parkruuuner Thise three people most likely knew exactly what they were doing and were chancing their luck.
Don’t worry about it. In future refuse and explain paper copies or wristbands etc if they start moaning send them to the RD to deal with.
People will try every excuse going as to why they haven’t got a barcode or why it’s only on the phone.
We get emails nearly every week after the event with people trying their luck to get the result added as they now have the barcode or they pretend the barcode was scanned but they haven’t got a result when actually it wasnt. (We can check this)

do you add them?

AuntieStella · 21/05/2018 07:36

I agree about the chancers.

My resting bitchface naturally steeliness must be evident as I always end up with the clipboard when I volunteer to scan. Most people accept it when you say 'no'. Quibbling, I refer to RD.

I have taken numbers from a few who did not have printed barcode with them (juniors, a tourist from a spectacular distance away, those who are volunteering at that day's run as well as running it). But that was just me, being a soft touch after all. People really shouldn't expect it to happen, especially not at busier runs

givemushypeasachance · 21/05/2018 09:44

My local is cancelled next week due to an event being held in the park. I'm going to travel down to London for the day so intend to hit up a fairly central London event to tourist at - any particular suggestions? It can't be too far out, I'll have about an hour or so to make my way from Victoria station to wherever it's held...

SquirmOfEels · 21/05/2018 12:40

There aren't any Parkrun in very central London, but loads a bit further out. These two have very easy journeys from Victoria:

a) Hop on the train at Victoria and go to Herne Hill (make sure you get one of the ones that takes 10 mins, not a round-the-houses one which takes 30mins). Brockwell Park Parkrun starts about 5 mins walk from the station. If you like hills (on tarmac paths throughout)

b) Or tube southbound (Victoria Line to Stockwell, change to Northern for Clapham Common or Clapham South) as the Clapham Common Parkrun is

givemushypeasachance · 21/05/2018 13:31

Does anyone sane like hills? Grin

Thanks @SquirmofEels - Clapham Common looked like a good contender, I didn't realise it was so new they've only done about nine or ten! I think may make it that one. Though if I'm giving it longterm consideration maybe I should pick a different one that'll count towards the alphabet since I've already got a C in the bag... I've only done five different events so far, quite a long way to go for that!

SquirmOfEels · 21/05/2018 14:10

Have you got a 'W'?

Another possibility would be to get the District Line tube from Victoria to Wimbledon, and then run on the Common (and see if there's a womble as tail walker)

givemushypeasachance · 21/05/2018 14:37

Ha I don't have a W yet, just A, C, E, P & R! I think I'm a bit early to be ruling places in or out of touristing unless I have a chance to bag one of the particularly rare letters. I've only done 23 runs in total so alphabet collecting is going to be a years long competition with myself. Tooting sounds very nice from the blog/run reports - they were highlighting some of the four-legged runners including one dog's birthday PB so that's bringing it up the contenders! I don't need to decide until the morning anyway.

When I need to get up super early for a 5am bus to London in order to be down there early enough I may regret my life choices - but then I'll have the rest of the day to chill out and do some other touristing stuff of a more relaxed nature...

runningpink · 21/05/2018 18:23

No we don’t add them they always get refused.
If we check the data and find that it was a technical glitch and they did in fact have the barcode scanned then yes we will add them in to the system.

It’s time consuming and creates extra work if we added more people manually.
The day we had around 20 manuals recently (rain causing havoc) that I had to add into the system, the paper was disintegrating, hard to read etc only to have an issue and have to input them all a second time was not fun!

goldopals · 26/05/2018 06:01

I had a great run today and had to boast as no one IRL really cares. I managed to best my PB by forty seconds and ran the whole way without stopping to walk once for the first time. I only was able to do this because of another runner encouraging me!

JustGettingStarted · 26/05/2018 10:31

Well done goldopals!

I felt very tired and slow today.

I forgot my phone so I didn't have my feedback every 500 metres. I've run this course 9 times so I don't necessarily need it, but I did miss it.

But I'm at least a minute and a half slower than last week.

ArtfulPuss · 26/05/2018 11:17

Congrats goldopals! I knocked 34 seconds off my time today and achieved one of my personal goals so am on a bit of a high too. (Ditto no one remotely interested IRL, apart from DH who is away and DS2 who, to be fair, humoured me with a hug.)

Lotsofplanets one of my brothers often gets a PB when he's hungover! His theory is that it's something to do with a masochistic desire to punish himself.
