Panic moment, we were running out of room on old thread so started a new one for today's run reports Smile

Well done runningpink! I had fun on my second volunteer stint, managed the tokens for over 300 runners with only the odd hiccup here and there (where the tokens were out of order in one spot, and the odd runner trying to funnel-duck without letting us know to take a token out for them). We had a couple of milestones so there was cake around as well, yum.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 17/03/2018 10:36

Holy smokes it was cold out there this morning

runningpink · 19/03/2018 06:49

Thanks mushy
Funnel duckers drive me crazy!

Lots it sure was freezing. It snowed a bit here too. I was just grateful we were still on. Can’t face any more cancellations!

givemushypeasachance · 19/03/2018 10:17

It was bloody bloody cold at ours on Saturday too - we ran the regular route not the "ice adjusted" one but the wind chill was brutal. Couple of brave souls were in PJs for that National Sleep in Day event! Really can't wait for spring now.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 23/03/2018 18:26

My turn to run with ds tomorrow (sigh) so it will be long and painful. DH and I are supposed to take in turns but somehow I always wriggle out of it!

Who else is running tomorrow?

niceberg · 23/03/2018 18:53

I'll be running tomorrow, solo or maybe with a friend. I admire all the parents encouraging their kids round.

I'll try to keep inside 30 mins but won't be going for a PB. Last time I really went for it I was so knackered all the way round it was horrible. Shock

runningpink · 23/03/2018 19:22

I am running and volunteering tomorrow. It has been a tough week so cannot wait to see everyone. No time expectations for tomorrow, I’m just going to run and see what happens.
Have fun everyone

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 23/03/2018 20:47

Thanks - it’s really good for ds I just find it feels a lot longer than 5k with him! Have fun!

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 24/03/2018 11:47

DS (aged 7) whacked a whopping 7 MINUTES off his Pb this morning - coming in at 39 minutes - he didn’t moan, chatted happily the whole way round and I could not be prouder. His beaver challenge is to do the whole thing running - and today it didn’t feel that far away.

DH is suggesting I am better at supporting him so I should do it more often- I am ignoring this! But tbf if he keep this up he will be quicker than me anyway.

niceberg · 24/03/2018 13:23

Well done lotsofplanets! I loved my run this morning. Muddy but fun.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 24/03/2018 17:35

Oh niceberg - good to start the weekend with a muddy one - you can feel like GI Jane!

AuntieBulgaria · 24/03/2018 18:09

I did my second ever parkrun at Milton, Cambridge today (first one was about 5 years ago). Have been working up to it with a beginners' running group.

We started 9 weeks ago with 30 second runs and it was so fantastic to have everyone in the group finish a whole 5k today. I've become a big fan of the run walk run (Jeffing) method and was really pleased that no one minded me slowing down periodically or the various technology bits of me that went bong loudly as I went.

Got to find a way of keeping going now though. Looking forward to when it feels like a routine rather than a culmination!

niceberg · 24/03/2018 19:04

Fab Auntie that's quite a milestone! If you have a group of runners at the same stage as you I think that will really help you to keep it up. If you've arranged to meet someone to run you're much less likely to stick to the sofa at the last minute.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 24/03/2018 19:27

Nice one Auntie!

JustGettingStarted · 25/03/2018 19:48

I did my first parkrun yesterday in Oldham. I enjoyed it! Now that I know the course I will feel more confident in the future. I may try and go run it a couple of times during the week.

My time isn't too bad, considering I only started running on the treadmill in January and only outside two weeks ago. I have started the Bridge to 10K program and I hope to see improvement in my 5k time.

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 30/03/2018 17:18

Who is running tomorrow?

JustGettingStarted · 30/03/2018 17:33

I am!

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 30/03/2018 17:57

Hurray for number 2 justgettingstarted

MyBlackCat · 30/03/2018 20:14

🙋🏼‍♀️

I've had 4 months away from parkrun with injury, but tomorrow I'm making a comeback. Can't believe my first parkrun of 2018 is almost April Sad

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 31/03/2018 12:08

How did you get on cat? PBs for both of my children and two of my friends - not for me :( hey ho!

JustGettingStarted · 31/03/2018 13:14

I ran 61 seconds faster than last week! So, I'm happy.

Does anyone else run an app like Runkeeper so you can get updates on your pace and distance?

Lotsofplanetshaveanorth · 31/03/2018 14:07

Well done justgettingstarted - nice job.

I don’t run with an app just some music and trying to catch the people in front of me - but - as I am not really much of a runner DH suggested the Nike run app to see if that helps budge my times a bit

Ethelswith · 31/03/2018 14:16

Could I ask a question of any Run Directors (or anyone who works for Parkrun)?

When it comes to getting the Volunteering T-shirt, does the 25 refer to number of events at which you volunteered, or the number of volunteering roles you have done?

I ask because I'm getting near, but the two number are different (because I have sometimes doubled set-up and close-down and/or token sorting, so my number of roles is higher than the number of events) and I was wondering which will be the 'right' one to celebrate!

givemushypeasachance · 31/03/2018 19:08

I touristed over to Cardiff for the first time, it's the first parkrun I'd done where there isn't a significant uphill section so it was pleasant but a little bizarre waiting to hit a painful incline that never came! Grin
