For one pointless -excuse- reason after another I get so far and then stop .

This time I have signed myself up for a 5k in May so I have to do it now . I do enjoy it once I get into it and I really want to finish something for once .

If anyone has any hints tips or kicks up the arse spare I would appreciate it .

How's everyone getting on ? I have done back to the programme . Did wk5 r1 this morning and it was ok (ish)

Scared about the 20min run but I have to do it at some point .

Ah well done, how do you feel now? Think you just need to do it when you get to it and it'll happen (and if not, keep inching it up until you do)

I just did 25 but including my walking bits, I'm still half a mile off covering 5K...

My legs really didn't want to, but once I got to 20 I figured I'd get to 21 and 22 and in the end I did it!

Week 7 here I come...trying to find a route that covers the 5K at the moment - tonight was my first attempt to lengthen, but it was too short so need to rejig my idea. Will try again Monday night.

Howlongtillbedtime · 01/04/2017 21:24

I feel pleased that I managed it and I am looking forward to getting back to it on Sunday !

You are doing so well . I am very impressed .

It's taken since October to get past week 5! Blush

Howlongtillbedtime · 02/04/2017 19:58

That's better than me !

I have had the email confirmation for my 5k in May !

Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh .

Well worst case scenario you can walk 5K can't you? Grin

Is it at the start or the end of May i.e. how many weeks have you got left?

Howlongtillbedtime · 02/04/2017 20:38

It's the 8th May !

I've got ages right ? Shock

Yes I can walk it but I will be a bit grumpy if I don't at least manage 40 mins . I do however need to get over my nonsense of never running in public before that ...............

I am such a div Blush

5 weeks is plenty if you get out 3x a week doing the programme you'd be doing 30 minutes wouldn't you?

Do you know the route? Is it flat? I've found 5 minutes up hill last night nearly killed me!

Howlongtillbedtime · 02/04/2017 21:15

I do know the route (ish) that is a good idea though to go round it .

Thankfully ( and annoyingly) my dh is a proper runner so can come with me and go round the route. I think they would help .
It's only 4 miles down the road .

There you go then!

Howlongtillbedtime · 02/04/2017 21:43

Exactly ! If I say it quickly then it all makes sense and all will be well .

Sorry to gate crash....I've just done W3 R1. I'm finding it okay (for someone who's never run!), but I struggle to breath. My legs feel like they could go on, but my chest feels tight.

Howlongtillbedtime · 04/04/2017 06:49

The more the merrier pink

I was like that in the beginning and now it is generally my legs that give up Grin

Are you enjoying it ( in a weird way at least)

OP posts:
Pinkvici22 · 04/04/2017 08:11

Hi howlong

I am enjoying it in a weird way...and I feel quite motivated to stick to it. How did you get over the breathing issues? Or did it just happen?

Howlongtillbedtime · 04/04/2017 08:24

It just seems to get better the more you do . I still don't find it easy by any stretch but a lot easier than at the start .

OP posts:
TheConstantCakeEater · 04/04/2017 15:36

Also think it gets easier but boy my legs aren't finding it easier! Going out tonight for attempt 2 at 25 minutes. Need to do that 3x or so and then see if I can go to 28!

TheConstantCakeEater · 04/04/2017 15:37

*the breathing gets easier obviously ffs

wineusuallyhelps · 04/04/2017 15:43

Just gatecrashing to say I spent 20 years saying I "can't run" or "I've got the wrong body type for it". Trying every couple of years and failing. I'd never been fit.

Suffice to say, couch to 5k led to a half marathon. I'm still amazed, as I am I inherently lazy about physical stuff. It changed something in me.

You CAN do this. Well done to you all Grin

Howlongtillbedtime · 04/04/2017 20:37

Thank you wine

I am very impressed . Do you remember when it became to feel slightly less torturous ? Wink

TeaBelle · 04/04/2017 20:41

I had to consciously focus on my breathing for the first 3 weeks but it now comes naturally. I count 4 times of my left foot hitting the ground for each in breath and each out breath. It was recommended on the app that I use to monitor my c25k stuff and seems to work for me

wineusuallyhelps · 04/04/2017 21:07

Howlong after I broke through the 30 minute barrier. Seriously - that was the hardest part!

Howlongtillbedtime · 04/04/2017 21:11

I am due to do the 20 mins this week which seems scary enough .

I am determined to not make a total arse of myself in May doing a 5k so I have to keep going .

I know my time won't be great ( my dh is aiming for 24 mins which is bonkers)
But I will be delighted to get it done .

OP posts:
TheConstantCakeEater · 04/04/2017 21:26

Well that wasn't a total success as I 'only' managed 20 minutes running and 4.5k in total, but I now know that I need to do my run backwards next time adding in another block - can't add a block on the other side as there's no footpath heading that way outta town.... hoping that at least I know I'm covering 5K regardless of running it or walking it.

I'm sure you'll get there How

Thanks for the tips Wine and Tea
