For one pointless -excuse- reason after another I get so far and then stop .

This time I have signed myself up for a 5k in May so I have to do it now . I do enjoy it once I get into it and I really want to finish something for once .

If anyone has any hints tips or kicks up the arse spare I would appreciate it .

Grin not knowing the route and having to walk back is the sort of thing I would do. I don't like running where I'll see loads of people so I have to walk about half an hour to get to the place I like to run. At least it's a nice long cool down!

I don't know when I'm going to it in much running next week. I've got HIIT classes Monday morning and Wednesday night and I need at least 2 days recovery time or my legs ache too much. So looks like only one run for me next week.

TheOnlyWayIsMN · 13/03/2017 13:20

I'm planning on going out tonight (even got the sports bra on) and hoping to do week 5 run 2. Not sure why 2x8 minutes sounds so much more daunting than 3x5 minutes when it's really the same thing. Will report back.

Good luck with the HIIT - that makes you feel the burn too, so sure it's all good!

Howlongtillbedtime · 14/03/2017 09:46

Sorry I fell off this thread . I have had a stressy couple of weeks but I am back on track now.

It looks like you are both doing really well so any spare motivation chuck it over here Grin

Going to get to the gym tomorrow and just cover the 5k and see how long it takes me so I have a gauge again .
Am also going to order another fitbit . It did used to help me keep going and I need all the help I can get!

How did the 2x8 mins go?

Hmmm, DH forgot that he had to work late and it meant that I spent til 8:25 doing homework with DD so in the end I ate a big Oreo slab instead! Blush

I will let you know when I make it Wink

Hope things stay stress free.

(I'm just about to go name change, but I'm sure you'll know it's me!

TheConstantCakeEater · 14/03/2017 21:07

I only went and did it! Was very hard going but it's done. Going to redo this one Thursday and Sunday before moving on.

Howlongtillbedtime · 14/03/2017 21:21

Well done you!

I have very astutely spotted you Grin

I will go tomorrow for sure otherwise I can kiss goodbye to ever doing this bloody 5k .

LOL easy to do in this thread at least. Hope you got your trainers on. Legs sore today so have walked with double this morning and will again this PM to give them a good stretch. Hoping the stars will align tomorrow so I can go while mine are at school, otherwise I will make time on Friday.

Howlongtillbedtime · 15/03/2017 16:40

I made it to the gym ! Pleased with myself for going after a tough day at work .

I just did my run/walk to cover 5k and it took me 39.57 but I did it !

I did think I was going to either vomit or give up the last mile however Wink

TheConstantCakeEater · 15/03/2017 21:38

Good going! i have no idea what distance I'm covering.

I'm hoping I can fit a run in tomorrow but it's looking unlikely (and I'd have to go in daylight!)

TheConstantCakeEater · 17/03/2017 21:08

I only went and did 20 minutes and 7 seconds tonight!

Howlongtillbedtime · 19/03/2017 13:15

Thats fab !

How did it feel ?

I have been away for the weekend so have done bugger all sadly but I am going to go tomorrow after work.

Nearly killed me! Going to go out and do 8m 3m 8m (minutes not miles) tonight and then next time I make it out will aim for week 6 run 1.

TheConstantCakeEater · 20/03/2017 06:21

Well i did that last night and it was hard (again) I haven't found a single one easy but I guess that's the point. I put a tracker thingy on to see what distance I was covering and did 3.6km/2.25m so I'm not close to the 5K mark yet but can now track my progress.

TheConstantCakeEater · 21/03/2017 20:49

Tracked my run tonight and did 2km in 21 minutes. Feeling slightly disheartened that I'm so far from 5K but I wouldn't have thought a year ago that I could jog 20 minutes!

Have you been out?

HuckfromScandal · 21/03/2017 20:59

You're doing amazingly
I am a definite plodder at the back.
But am a member of a running club - and infact am the chairperson - which says to me that they are for everybody.

Parkrun is amazing
Get yourself to one
You'll never look back - so friendly and happy to have new people.
I am also a run director at junior parkrun - if you have kids - get them involved in that - and you'll soon find your way to senior parkrun too x

TheConstantCakeEater · 22/03/2017 07:54

Hi Huck

My friend and I are planning to go together once we've both got our fitness up a bit more.

DD has been doing cross country and hating it so netball and swimming for her for now.

TheConstantCakeEater · 26/03/2017 20:43

Managed 4K doing week 6, run 2 on Friday. Heading out again tomorrow night.

TheConstantCakeEater · 27/03/2017 21:19

Managed 14 minutes tonight with 6minutes warm up/cool down either side. Felt quite down about that, but it's as much as I could do 3 weeks ago and I also walked 4 miles with loaded double pushchair today so not bad all in all.

Meeting a friend tomorrow (last time we were out out we walked 4 miles) and walking school runs - another 3m.

Anyone else get out?

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/03/2017 06:58

Hi Constant . apologies for being AWOL (again) I am really struggling to fit this in with all the daily stresses and strains but I did get to the gym yesterday and managed to do 15 mins without stopping which is my longest so far.
I carried on walking and jogging to cover the 5k and it took me ages but I did it.I am hoping to get back out on Friday but realistically it may be sat morning.

It looks like you are doing really well .I hope you are not too disheartened . I just have to keep reminding myself how far I have come .

Still scared about doing this 5k in May however !

TheConstantCakeEater · 30/03/2017 13:30

You don't have to worry about me -just about your looming 5K Grin

I'm sure you'll smash it though!

I went out and did week 6 run 1 and nearly died because I was too greedy at teatime.

Hoping to do 25 minutes over the weekend.

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/03/2017 18:28

Looming is right Shock

25 mins is amazing ! You should be so chuffed .

TeaBelle · 30/03/2017 20:04

Hi everyone, can I please join you. I'm a long term unfit person - could never run at school for 30 seconds. I've worked up to week 4 and despite telling myself that I would get to at least halfway through the final 5 minute run I actually did all of the running! Very very sweaty but pleasr d with myself. Dreading 8 minutes though - that seems huge!

My question - if you really really struggle with a week, do you repeat it or press on?

Thanks

Howlongtillbedtime · 30/03/2017 20:13

Hi teabelle I have repeated many weeks until I can do it .
I have also given up on the programme completely and just done my own thing .

But I figure the important thing is to just keep on keeping on .

Whatever I am achieving this week is a hell of a lot more than i was achieving this time last year .

Well done in getting this far . You are very nearly half way there .

OP posts:
TheConstantCakeEater · 30/03/2017 20:45

Hi Tea and welcome! When I started, I did every week twice because I'm really not a natural runner. Then I didn't run for 3 months, then I got back to where I was at when I stopped (week 5) and now I'm about to do week 6 run 3 = 25 minutes.

I have found every run hard, customised things where I wanted/needed/ done less than I wanted on days where I just couldn't, but figured every little bit is better than nothing.

How, yes 25 would be great. Going to have to extend my route another block!

TeaBelle · 30/03/2017 20:48

Thanks for the advice - I can definitely see myself doing this week a couple if times, especially as the weeks really seem to get more intense from now onwards
