New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

Did it. The first 3 minute run was hard, but for some reason, the second felt better. Undecided about whether to run tomorrow or whether I'll need a day off.

I went this morning, was cold but not too icy. Didn't feel as if I had made much progress from the start of the week but will push ahead. W3R1 on Monday Hmm

waiting4inspiration · 14/01/2017 19:21

W2R3 done - slightly easier than Wednesday's run; planned a better route so running 90 seconds could be done without crossing any roads. W3 starts for me Monday too.

ChickenPoop · 15/01/2017 07:24

W2D2 completed last night. All went well despite having a pounding headache. Will have to do W2D3 today as I was supposed to do yesterday's run on Friday, but didn't.

I'm keen to move on to week 3 to be honest, but making the most of building a decent base. I generally do a circular 6k route that I can't shortcut so the less running I do, the longer I have to be out of the house...

I might try a pre dinner run today which means I need to have a well timed banana beforehand. My runs are very sensitive to when I eat. If I run on an empty stomach, my hunger distracts me and I often get terrible stitches. If I run too soon after eating I feel sick and also get stitches. I have to run 90-120 minutes after dinner to have a productive round. Today I will try banana at 4:15, run at 5 and see if I can remain stitchless. I hope so.

CaptainBraandPants · 15/01/2017 07:37

Well done jess, waiting and Chicken
I'm not feeling too achy today, so may do w3r2 if I get chance.
I can't remember who said this, but way up thread, someone was saying that the week 2 music wasn't very good. I agree. The week 3 music is perhaps slightly better. I have a theory that they used the good music in week 1 to draw you in and then once they've caught you, you get the crap music. Grin
KOKO everyone, may your days be mild and your roads ice free.

CaptainBraandPants · 15/01/2017 07:40

oh, Chicken, I meant to say, that I run best on as empty a stomach as possible. I ran at about 1.30pm yesterday and I hadn't eaten since the night before! Although, that is probably the most extreme example I have. I do low carb, hence the long gaps between food. And there were several creamy coffees in there.

Did w3r2 today and it went better than expected. will rest now until Tues/ Wed. Slightly scared of week 4...

captain I'd be dead if I went that long without food - run or no run Grin

The banana is in. Just waiting for it to do its magic (while I watch Pretty Little Liars Blush) then I shall depart...

Well done on completing your run. You'll be fine for week 4 and there's no shame in repeating a day if you have a dud run.

ChickenPoop · 15/01/2017 16:01

W2D3 done. So now on to week 3, which for me is two repetitions of: 90secs run, 90secs walk, 3mins run, 3 mins walk.

If I don't slow down I won't finish the 3 mins. My legs are keen to run but lungs are really not ready yet.

Good luck and well done to everyone else! I will be back out on Tuesday.

KickAssAngel · 15/01/2017 19:45

Just done W3 R2. It's my legs that hurt the most. I'm pretty heavy so they're carrying a lot of weight when I run.

But I did manage the 3 min. runs, so now know I can do it again!

CaptainBraandPants · 15/01/2017 20:56

Well done Chicken and Kick.
I said you could do it Kick and now Chicken has told me I will be able to do w4, I know I'll be able to do it, too. Grin

Well done everyone, great to hear we are all progressing and not fallen off the wagon (yet)! Did W3R1 today, it wasn't too bad and I agree Captain, the music was better than last week :)

halfgirlhalfturnip · 16/01/2017 10:31

Did W3 R2 last night and it was slightly tougher than the first one - my theory is I run (shuffle) better if I have had a more active day.
Third run will be Wednesday then hopefully do W 4 R1 in Friday. Terrified!! I am not fussed on the music but that's an incentive to get up to running to a time or distance with your own playlist. Well done everyone and thanks for such encouraging company.

waiting4inspiration · 16/01/2017 18:41

W3R1 done today - hardly noticed the first 3 minute run as it was pi**ing it down so hard. The 3 min walk in heavy rain was no fun at all and I finished the run feeling quite chilly. Here's hoping for better weather on Wednesday.

Am another one who prefers to run on empty - otherwise, I need at least three hours between eating and running.

Also found the music slightly better Smile and I do like not having to think about when to run, when to walk.

KickAssAngel · 16/01/2017 19:27

Just tried and failed at W4R1. I only ran yesterday afternoon and my legs hadn't recovered. I did the first 2 mins, then managed another 2, but decided I just cba so walked for half an hour instead. Def. glad we have a treadmill - it's a mix of sleet/rain/hail outside and everything freezing as it hits the ground.

btw - I have two cats who love me. They love me so much that they sit and watch me on the treadmill.

jesstar · 17/01/2017 07:41

Well done half and waiting, we're getting there!

Kick, do you think you're pushing too hard? You're doing kickboxing as well, aren't you? You probably need to rest up a bit, then I'm sure you'll be able to push ahead with Week 4. Good luck when you try again Wink

EmilyDickinson · 17/01/2017 18:47

Week 2 Day 3 done today. It was very cold, so I was actually quite glad to start running and warm up a bit. Due to more illness and life being very hectic I'm not finding the time to run very often. As today's the 17th of January I should be a bit further on than week 2 really, but I'm pleased that I'm sticking with it and getting a run in when I can as I know I have a tendency to think that if I'm not managing everything I intend to then I might as well give up. Of course with exercise even a little is so much better than none at all.

Well done to us all for sticking with it through the cold, dark days of January. We'll be athletes come Summer!

ChickenPoop · 17/01/2017 19:56

W3D1 complete. I hate to say it felt easy, but it did... Today was a full stomach run and felt much better than Sunday's banana run. I'm not in the UK so thankfully don't have to contend with proper cold weather. It's a bit chilly here after dark but nothing unmanageable and no rain.

Well done to everybody else and kick do make sure you get enough rest. It can be so tempting to push yourself but recovery days are so important, especially when you're still building stamina. I'm not sure if your week 4 is the same mine (R3, W1.5, R5, W2.5, R3, W1.5, R5) but it's a big jump in minutes spent running and reduction in recovery time from week 3. Personally, I think week 4 and week 6 are the most difficult. Don't feel bad about any repeat days.

KickAssAngel · 18/01/2017 04:06

did kickboxing Ron got and got my gloves for when we do the punching bit. enjoyed it and found it easier than last week.

I def need to give myself a rest day between things but got carried away with the 3 day weekend here. plan to do kickboxing on Thu then run on Sat or Sun. it's annoying trying to alternate workout and RST with an odd number of days in the week.

jesstar · 18/01/2017 14:51

kick that sounds like a good plan, I can only concentrate on one form of exercise at a time. W3R2 done this am at - 2 degrees! At that temperature and in the dark of the morning, the first walk was hardest, felt better once I'd warmed up!

This week feels a lot shorter, does anyone know where I can get a list of total run times? That is, without having to work it out myself Hmm

halfgirlhalfturnip · 18/01/2017 18:02

W3R3 done (this morning for a change) and it was slow. Away from home and starting a cold. Not sure how I will cope with moving up to week 4 if it is a stretch as poop says

Evilstepmum01 · 18/01/2017 18:40

Everyone is doing so well! Could someone please kick my arse and encourage me to do w1 r1 again? I do boxercise etc and have some warm up exercises to do to avoid shinsplints, I just need to motivate myself! Have to bath and bed ds, then NOT sit on the sofa!! 😣

What are the exercises to avoid shinsplints? I started getting those last time i did c25k and would love to avoid them.

waiting4inspiration · 18/01/2017 23:28

W3R2 done. Was lovely and sunny but footpaths were still frosty and there were icy puddles in places. Second 3 minute run still felt quite tough. Already thinking ahed about how I can plan week 4 so the 5 min runs are on downhill sections - or is that cheating?

Hope you managed to get out on your run Evilstepmum. Are you sure it's shinsplints and not just your muscles grumbling at having to run?
