New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

Amazonian, my Karrimors are sooooo soft and comfy, may be worth a look in Sports Direct as they're always in there and try a few on see what feels better for you?

Welcome Chatter! Well done on starting, how're you feeling now??

Well done Madcats!! Good luck for wk6!!

Evil, I got free entry to RFL the other day and will be signing up for one too, probably also alone lol!

Esssa, have you looked at any of the Jawbone Up range? They're pretty good I hear and you can track runs I think on their app? My pace seems to stick around 11'40"/km whatever that means so I'm going to use that as my base and try to improve over time, sod it if I'm slow for now, once I can run for 30 mins I'll start trying for speed hahahaha!

Tsoto omg 25 mins! I can't imagine me ever being able to do that, you're fab!!!

I did wk4 r2 today and it hurt more but I think that's because I'd only had 1 rest day as opposed to the 2 I get over the weekend if that makes sense. We'll see how Friday goes!!!

Tsotofamily · 22/03/2017 22:57

Thanks Bazing - don't know how I managed it but great feeling after its done.
I can remember feeling like that on the second and third run of a new week, the first run always felt like it was over with quickly and I didn't find the jump in minutes to bad but the following days were hard

GottaGetThisDone · 23/03/2017 22:03

Well done everybody :)
I did w5r1 yesterday, I can't believe the words 'I really enjoy my runs' come out of my mouth but i really do enjoy c25k and get quite ansty if it is a run day and for whatever reason I can't run.

Do have a rather difficult but possible embarrassing problem, just over halfway through a run a lot of time I need the toilet and really struggle to finish sometimes, a couple of times I have had to abandon the run and pick it up again after going home. There are no facilities where I run and I am a creature of habit so loathe to change route (tho any other route would also be toilet less lol) but seriously think I need to :(

Madcats · 24/03/2017 09:48

Gotta yep, I've been caught that way a couple of times too! Luckily I'm usually towards the end of a run so I can shuffle home. Who was that famous female marathon runner....?

I have abandoned my earlier routine of running after dropping DD off if I've not been.... On the plus side, there is a supermarket about 4km away I can run to...grab a bit of shopping and get a bus home. Supermarkets tend to have loos too!

Good luck with the rest of wk5.

BazingaBaby · 24/03/2017 22:05

Tsoto it's nice to know it's not just me!

Gotta do you go out straight after meals or drinks (big drinks)? I find I just can't handle running if I've had a meal or lots to drink in the hour or so beforehand so tend to either go out first thing while I'm 'empty' or I have to wait 90mins after my meals. It's a pain but I just can't seem to do it otherwise. Good luck with the rest of Wk5!

I did my last run of Wk4 tonight and it was surprisingly good! Am a little nervous to start Wk5 on Monday, still can't quite believe I've kept going this long, i don't feel like a runner (and to be fair I'm the slowest thing going hahaha) Blush

Tsotofamily · 24/03/2017 22:47

Great to see everyone still getting out and running.

W7r2 done tonight. Also done 6 laps of the pool earlier whilst taking kids swimming before I would have been pooped at 2 Smile x

BWatchWatcher · 25/03/2017 13:43

W5r1 done this morning!
Must get out more but we were away and then it was just so coooold!
Hoping to go during the week and tomorrow.

Well done @Bazingababy!

@Gotta, think about when you've eaten last and how that fits with your run. Or if all else fails I've heard immodium works. I find if I drink too much water beforehand or during then I need the toilet.

Tsotofamily · 26/03/2017 20:56

Done w7r3 tonight although I cut it 5 mins short I've hurt my ankle and not sure how Angry so disappointed

BWatchWatcher · 26/03/2017 23:31

Well done @tsotofamily! That's still pretty fab

Tsotofamily · 26/03/2017 23:38

Thanks BWATCHWATCHER - did you manage to get out today?

BazingaBaby · 27/03/2017 11:53

Thanks @BWatchWatcher. How're you getting on this week?

@Tsotofamily how's your ankle? I hope it's not too hurt for you xx

Am struggling with leaving the sofa today!!! Someone send a rocket to shift me!!

Tsotofamily · 27/03/2017 13:40

Bazingababy - it's sore but nothing a few days rest won't heal, well I say a few days rest as much as possible with 4 kids and 2 dogs lol x

I'm hoping you've left the sofa by now, if not here's a kick up the bump to get you moving

BazingaBaby · 27/03/2017 13:55

Haha Tsoto I do hope you get chance to rest it up, have a cuppa and a sit down BrewGrin

I did make it off the sofa and Wk5R1 is DONE! Bloody loved it, had a stoopid grin on my face at the end of the last 5min run GrinGrin Am still scared of the rest of Wk5 but not giving up now!

BazingaBaby · 27/03/2017 13:56

Thanks for the kick btw @Tsotofamily xx

BWatchWatcher · 27/03/2017 17:47

Hi!
I managed to get out yesterday. So on to w5r3.
Phew. I need to find a way to run more during the week.
Well done @Bazingababy! That's super!
Sending healing vibes @Tsotofamily. 4 kids and 2 dogs 🐶:) you probably never get to see your couch!

BazingaBaby · 27/03/2017 18:06

@BWatchWatcher what days do you run?? How was W5R3?? I'm scared of that one! It'll be Friday for me Confused

Tsotofamily · 27/03/2017 21:16

Thanks BWatchWatcher

Well done on the running BWatchWatcher and Bazingababy

Esssa · 27/03/2017 21:39

Week 3 finished with an extra 3 minute run at the end! Can't believe it's going so well so far, famous last words maybe...

Bazinga I've had a quick look at the jawbone app but I already have a fitbit alta hr so would prefer to use that. It's tracking ok if I stick to roads not parks :/ I'm tempted to download endomondo or strava and see what they are like but I want as few apps as possible as my phone is getting old and slow!

Well done everyone else. It's nice to know Im not on my own even though I run alone. Would be nice to have a buddy sometimes. There is a running group in the next village once a week so I'm tempted by that after week 5 or 6 once I'm running decent amounts.

RubyGoat · 27/03/2017 21:53

I've had to take a few days off, had a really bad patch of migraines. So annoying, I'm hoping to get back out tomorrow. I'll probably go back a week, I had only just started W3 though.

BazingaBaby · 27/03/2017 22:04

@Esssa Strava is fab, I've used it for cycling on my old phone (had a mount for it but not got one for my new phone) and it was really easy to use. Has an auto pause function too iirc that helps if you need to stop and catch your breath or stretch etc. Worth a try and you might be able to link it in with your Fitbit?

@LegoCaltrops hope you're feeling better soon!

Madcats · 27/03/2017 23:32

Lego, I hope the headaches are now a distant memory. I've skipped a number of days between runs (so I am on wk6 after 8 weeks). I've found that a couple of extra days' rests haven't really affected my progression. Just remember to stick to the sequence of runs for the run day you need to complete.

I hope Bbwatch and Bazing sail through wk5r3 (I'm only a week ahead). I was tempted to repeat r2 but I figured there was no shame in getting the app to do run3 and see how I felt after 8 minutes.

Oddly enough I've found wk6r1 harder (possibly because I was tired, but also because I found that I had upped my pace because I was so astonished I'd done a 20 minute run).

I think I'm planning to declare myself ready to run with my school mum's group after Easter

Happy injury-free running this week everybody!

I wonder if anybody does a "couch to, say, 500m" for swimming?

BWatchWatcher · 28/03/2017 08:50

Right w5, r3 herr we go.

BazingaBaby · 28/03/2017 08:58

Go @BWatchWatcher !

BWatchWatcher · 28/03/2017 09:32

Done! Phew!!! Thanks @Bazingababy! Your turn now :)

BWatchWatcher · 28/03/2017 09:41

@CaptainBrandPants thanks again for suggesting the yoga studio app. The yoga for runners is brilliant. I do the 5 or 10 minute session when I get home and it really helps.
