New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

Thanks Chicken, I have done MyFitnessPal before and it does work. I know that I need to control food>exercise, but I'm trying to avoid non-sustainable approaches to dietary change ... and I just can't calorie count forever, I find it miserable!

I'm trying to cut down sugar, and eat for less hours during my waking hours (like 16:8). You're spot on though about weights, I think that would really help tone and lose the fat over the long-term. If only I had more willpower, time and motivation ...

waiting4inspiration · 26/01/2017 02:04

Hmmmm, meant to say W4R2 done. Clearly I was more tired than I thought after the run!

W4R3 will be Friday.

Did some stretching this evening and the left calf and hamstring are both quite tight - also did some rollering of the underside of my foot into the arch with a tennis ball and fingers crossed it seems a bit better.

anonymousbird · 26/01/2017 12:13

Oh crap, it's snowing and minus 1. I need to do W4D2 and the dog is following me telling me that the time is nigh!

Here we go...

anonymousbird · 26/01/2017 13:23

Done W4 D2!

4.6k, 21 mins running in total. I can't quite believe I am closing in on 5k distance wise, even if it has several walk breaks in it. Woo hooo!

Actually feeling quite good on it.

ChickenPoop · 26/01/2017 14:43

I went off schedule and ran today so week 4 is now complete. My stats are good for today (best place and distance apparently) but I struggled and the walks felt really short.

Anon what cruel app has you running 21 minutes in week 4?! Or was that extra credit? I only did an extra minute today, was exhausted.

I might start week 5 tomorrow... Maybe...

anonymousbird · 26/01/2017 17:52

Chicken, when I say "running".... the last 5 cool down I very slowly jogged as I knew I still had space to also have cool down afterwards. Oddly I find the later runs in a session easier than the early ones so I can jog the cool down.

Or may be not oddly as I suppose you are warmed up!

jesstar · 27/01/2017 09:59

Well done all! Did W4R3 this morning, so another week completed. Did struggle with the last run, but carried on through to the end. Now the tough stuff begins...

SorrelSoup · 27/01/2017 11:04

Thanks for the welcome! It's encouraging reading this thread. I've just completed W1 R2. I ran on a treadmill FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE! I'm really proud of myself, even though it's not a big deal for most people! At least I don't need to worry about where to run now!

Evilstepmum01 · 27/01/2017 22:49

Nice one Sorrel! I can't figure out the app, so decided not to risk using a treadmill! Pavements are colder tho! Just back from W1R3 so chuffed I've finished the first week. Feeling it in my knees a bit but have found my stride. Tomorrow off then might try W2 on Sunday. Hope everyone else doing OK! 😀

waiting4inspiration · 28/01/2017 01:42

Congratulations on good W1 runs Sorrel and Evilstepmum.

Good run Jetstar - I did my W4R3 this evening - was so much nicer not being out in chilly fog. So, W5R1 on Monday - should be okay; but W5R3? Seems such a leap from the steady increases we've been doing.

Well done on getting out on Thursday Anon - it was horrible here yesterday, hovering at O degrees all day.

Hope the injuries are improving Captain and Bijouxx

jesstar · 28/01/2017 12:23

Well done everyone, Chicken let us know how your W5 starts.

I'm not looking forward to W5R3 either Waiting but I guess it's just one run we have to manage, and then I think W6 has some breaks again? And if I have to stop to catch my breath, it's not the end of the world, it all counts and is better than sitting on my bum all day!

At least next week is looking warmer, so that should help with motivation. Well done to sorrel, anonymous and evil as well, great to hear how you're getting on, and overcoming all the challenges.

Aiming to start W5 on Monday ... good luck to all!

halfgirlhalfturnip · 28/01/2017 14:44

I missed my W4R3 last night as I am away with work and flights were delayed so off to do it in the Norwegian rain at 5 today. Well done everyone for keeping on keeping on 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️

ChickenPoop · 28/01/2017 18:21

W5D1 done and was quite fine. The final run got off to a puffy start but I could've carried on by the end of it. I did a few minutes extra credit on the walk home.

I can't run on Monday so will be doing run 2 tomorrow. I think it will be ok but will of course report back.

Good luck to everyone else and hope injuries have healed.

KickAssAngel · 28/01/2017 22:50

Fell off the wagon a bit this week. Did kickboxing on Tues then nothing until this morning. I did W3R2 again. I will try to do another run tomorrow or Mon then kickboxing again on Tue.

I'm just so tired after work that making myself do something is almost impossible.

In a couple of weeks I have mid-winter break (half term) so should be able to do every other day again, and get back into it a bit more.

ChickenPoop · 29/01/2017 16:02

W5R2 done and it went well. I slowed down a bit but could've run longer for both intervals.

I think Tuesday will be my next run. The dreaded one... I will make a decent playlist to see me through it.

waiting4inspiration · 30/01/2017 01:24

Chicken - well done on two W5 runs in a row - I need at least a day between runs for my legs to recover which is strange because I can walk for miles and miles at a leisurely pace, but walk/jog for 30 mins and my legs can complain bitterly the next day!

KickAss don't be too hard on yourself - one run a week is better than no run a week and keeps you in touch with the programme. The kickboxing will be adding to your cardio, strength and flexibility enormously too.

Jesstar you still on for W5R1 Monday? I can't go until evening - just as weather forecast is for rain and then heavy rain. Ho-hum. At least it won't be icy here.

jesstar · 30/01/2017 08:37

Hello! I have started W5 today, went this morning for R1. It wasn't too bad, although my legs were really tired today. Not sure I will have the stamina to run for 8 mins on R2, but will try and persevere.

I tend to run in the morning first thing, as I lose motivation throughout the day. Think I will stick to Mon/Weds/Fri as it seems to be working for me and I like having the day off inbetween.

Although next week will get messed up as I'm away for work, so I may have to repeat some of W5 when I get back. As you say waiting, something is better than nothing! Good luck later on, be careful running in the rain :)

bijouxxx · 30/01/2017 11:03

Sorry I've been absent for a couple of days. The leg is feeling much better so was going to run on Saturday but didn't have time and was too hungover yesterday!! I've got the day off tomorrow so will go then which will mean it's 9 days since I tried w4r2, not sure whether to go back to w3r3 or w4r1.

bijouxxx · 30/01/2017 11:03

jesstar could you not take your running gear with you?

Tsotofamily · 30/01/2017 11:50

Hi all
Do you mind if I join, I'm heading out this afternoon with a friend to start w1r1 - wish me luck Grin

BackToWorkTime · 30/01/2017 11:57

Hello all. And welcome to Tsoto. Good luck - you can do it!

I am just building myself up to go out for Wk 4 R3, I said midday and it's nearly there so i had better hop to it......

anonymousbird · 30/01/2017 13:30

Whoop Whoop.

Did Wk4 D3 today as well, actually (can't believe I am going to say this) felt good

Tsotofamily · 30/01/2017 13:45

W1r1 done - I'm so pleased I got off my arse and done it. Looking forward to wednew day Grin

Tsotofamily · 30/01/2017 13:46

Bloody phone Wednesday not wednew day

anonymousbird · 30/01/2017 14:22

Well done, it is worth it and it does get easier. I started from nothing, hadn't run in 20+ years, and even then it wasn't "running" IYSWIM, just running as part of something else.
