For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Congratulations!!!

Zippyzulu · 04/06/2017 19:07

Well done shortaris!

KanyesLunchbox · 04/06/2017 19:13

Great work Short!!

I'm home from the party. Feel like I've done a marathon. Tomorrow's race has got to be easier than 30 5-7yr olds at a soft play party Grin

SkiBike007 · 04/06/2017 20:41

Well done short that's brill

Yep kanye the run will be way way easier than soft play hell Grin

KanyesLunchbox · 05/06/2017 18:34

10k done! I'll be honest, it was brutal. The weather was bananas, I had to stop at 5k to take off a layer it was so hot and humid but by 9k it was pouring cold rain (so cold I turned on the heat when I got home). Great atmosphere though, 30,000 women walking, jogging and running in the 35th anniversary of the race. Dh brought the DC to meet me at the finish line so we went for some grub after which helped redeem the rain situation. I have established two things though...first I can't do any more than 5k during the day. I can do longer early or late but it just doesn't work with a 2pm start, and second I think realistically 8k is my limit for effort and I get runner's belly by 10 Blush

KanyesLunchbox · 05/06/2017 18:35

I forgot to give you my time! It was 1:20:44 so exactly at the limit of my predicted time and although I'm disappointed it wasn't faster, I haven't done enough training to warrant it.

And thanks everyone for all the support!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/06/2017 19:03

Well done Kanye!!!

Doesn't it feel great when you hit the finish line?
This was Race for Life?

KanyesLunchbox · 05/06/2017 19:14

Thanks Empress! Honestly? No, it didn't Sad I enjoyed the 8k I did last week much more. The race was the Dublin Women's Mini Marathon, I think the biggest women's event in the world each year. So great race, great atmosphere, terrible me Blush

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/06/2017 19:30

You finished though. That means fucking good you.

Also being honest, I walked a couple of bits, and I crossed the finish line & instantly burst into tears. But you, me & Shortaris - we DID it. We all did it!

KanyesLunchbox · 05/06/2017 19:42

I walked a bit too, Empress!

You're right, we did do it, and it is a great achievement. Well done all of us! 🍾🍾🍾

Super well done kanye be proud of your achievement it's brill Flowers Star weather was shocking here today so hats off to you!!

littlemissM92 · 05/06/2017 20:31

Kanye massive well done especially f the rain was anything like we've had here that's so hard having 2 extremes of weather when your trying to run a race ! X

Zippyzulu · 05/06/2017 20:36

Well done Kanye. I hate it when the weather interferes with runs. You should be really proud, that's amazing.

I'm planning an 8k run tomorrow and 5k race for life on Thursday. I've unexpectedly got no work booked in this week so was planning to run during the day tomorrow but the forecast is for rain, more rain and even more rain- typical! I've even bought a whiteboard and written my weekly runs down so i can tick them off as I complete them Blush [saddo].

shortaris1 · 06/06/2017 07:31

Well-done Kanye you did it!

Zippy I schedule mine in my bullet journal like appointments (other saddo)

Zippyzulu · 07/06/2017 20:39

I'm feeling really disheartened again... had a niggly knee a couple of weeks ago after it clicked when I knelt down and it went away after a day or two rest. After I ran just 4K on Monday it has flared up again and I'm in lots of pain. Had telephone consultation with physio and think I've torn the cartilage in my knee- I did it about five years and had to have surgery but I'm hoping it might be something else. They've slotted me in tomorrow morning so fingers crossed, maybe they can tape it up to get me through the next few weeks as I have race for life tomorrow night and 10K race in 3 weeks. I also joined a gym this week to focus on core strength!
So frustrated, here's hoping for a miracle!

littlemissM92 · 07/06/2017 21:09

Fingers crossed for u zippy ! I did my second 10k today in 1 hour 12 super happy with that

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 07/06/2017 21:15

That's a great time Miss!

Good luck Zippy, keep us posted.

SkiBike007 · 07/06/2017 21:41

Hopefully your heal quick zippy

Star littlemiss great run

I'm away with work so forced myself to do 30mins on hotel treadmill- oh my it was SO hot n dull I'm in awe of anyone who runs regularly on a treadmill I'd hate it. How on earth my SIL did the bulk of her London marathon training on one I have no idea! I much prefer the fresh air and using landmarks to keep me motivated Grin

Zippyzulu · 08/06/2017 09:44

As feared I have indeed torn my cartilage in the knee Sad
Mu physio thinks we can possibly avoid surgery by building up the muscles in my thighs (my legs are seriously skinny since starting running) and has taped it up so I can do this evening's run. Think I'll have to substitute one or two runs per week for some cross training or bike in the gym until it gets better and worry about the 10K later!
I'm not too despondent as hopefully I can work around it and it'll cope ok..: fingers crossed!

littlemissM92 · 08/06/2017 10:21

Zippy that's rubbish let us know how u get on

KanyesLunchbox · 08/06/2017 11:43

Oh no, Zippy, that's really crap. Hopefully the cross training will help.

Zippyzulu · 08/06/2017 14:22

Thanks. Dh has been telling me for months that I should bulk up my legs a bit as they aren't strong enough to support my running efforts and of course I have been ignoring him- looks like he was right all along Shock
Think I'll have to brave the scary part of the gym with all the weights etc!

SkiBike007 · 08/06/2017 21:26

zippy Would swimming help? Kicking with a float is great leg work with out straining the joints. I really enjoy one/two swims a week to complement the running. Hope you find something that works for you.

SkiBike007 · 08/06/2017 21:30

Has anyone else notice change in body shape since running? I really need to lose weight and have been low carbing the last 5weeks and only lost 7lbs but really started to change shape which is noticeable Smile muscles in my arms/legs defined and more of a waist it's fab Grin but just flipping slow "weight loss" so I'm converting to more muscle I think.
