For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

I'm standing on the start line doing my warmup.

I can do this!

I'll report back once it's all over...

KanyesLunchbox · 29/05/2017 10:12

Sending good vibes, Empress!

SkiBike007 · 29/05/2017 10:48

Go go go empress and enjoy it Star

SkiBike007 · 29/05/2017 10:49

You inspired me and I have paid my money & sign up for a 10k race for life in July Smile

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/05/2017 17:13

Thanks Kanye and Ski, and Ski, good on you!

On the bus home after waving my friend's husband off. I'm so glad I've got tomorrow off work, I'm bloody shattered!

But it was great. If humid. There was a line of sprinklers halfway round which was an inspired idea. And Ski, put your name on your top and people will shout it.

littlemissM92 · 29/05/2017 18:04

Well done empress! I dragged my self out at 5pm and did a 6.2k in ththe pouring rain was quite nice x

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/05/2017 19:20

Grin I bet it was!

SkiBike007 · 29/05/2017 20:26

Fab empress hugely draining for you emotionally well done. Hope you can rest up tom.

My legs were stiff after yesterday run so went swimming today which was a big help

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/05/2017 20:33

Thanks Ski. I'm going to give myself June off & then take up swimming.

KanyesLunchbox · 29/05/2017 22:43

Well done, Empress. No doubt your lovely friend and her lovely husband are incredibly proud of you. (As we and hopefully you are too!) I hope you have a restful day tomorrow, take care of yourself.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/05/2017 23:10

Thank you Kanye. Flowers

shortaris1 · 30/05/2017 06:05

Well done Empress, rest and relax today!

Did 4 lovely flat miles yesterday but my foot hurt at the end and this is what caused the ankle pain the last time so iced it immediately and its loads better today. May see a friends osteo if I can get in or opt for tape for Sunday.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/05/2017 08:15

Cheers Shortaris.

Hope you manage to sort out your ankle for Sunday.

The best parts, apart from running through sprinklers, were when people were shouting my name - it's a real boost so well worth sticking your name on your top.

SkiBike007 · 30/05/2017 16:45

Empress Come join the swimming for fitness thread on hereSmile they have inspired me too. I've been trying for the last 4yrs to teach myself frontcrawl and I've finally just nailed it in the last month Grin its great for cross training with the running. I struggled to find googles that I could wear and after the aquasphere recommendation on the thread I bought some and they are perfectGrin ...sorry back to running, I'm not out today as back sore so will just have a walk later I think.
Hope you can get your foot/ankle sorted shortaris

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/05/2017 18:45

I'll do that when I get started, Ski, thanks! Hope your back feels better soon.

shortaris1 · 30/05/2017 22:34

Thanks a lot.

Any headphone recommendations? I've tried loads but they fall out.I have very small ears!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/05/2017 22:41

I use these with fins. One of them will fall out occasionally but they're generally pretty good.

Or you could go for overear?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 31/05/2017 06:16

Just remembered something else. In the last couple of k I was sweating a lot & my shorts started chafing my thighs. I saw a tip on one of the marathon threads about applying Vaseline or a roll-on anywhere that's likely to happen & it seems like a good idea!

SkiBike007 · 31/05/2017 20:51

Good tip on the Vaseline my DH uses it his emmm nipples to stop rubbing Smile

Have you tried normal in air headphones but change the bud bit to the smallest cover, I've got some which are really small and if I feed the wire under my t shirt & tuck abit wire under bra strap they don't fall out at all.

SkiBike007 · 31/05/2017 20:52

Just did scrapy hot tired 5k but at least I did it! After long busy day with kids

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 01/06/2017 08:16

Good on you Ski!

Nipples were fine. (And that was a whole other thing - making sure I had a sports bra that would look OK under my sleeveless charity running top).

It was just where the ends of my shorts legs met my thighs. Luckily for me the race finished about 10 minutes' walk from my gym so I could stop off for a shower.

Zippyzulu · 02/06/2017 13:31

Just checking in again as haven't been on much lately. I haven't run much lately as we were on holiday and it was way too hot even early morning and late evening- managed a sweaty 3k one day and another day it rained so I quickly dashed out and did a slightly less sweaty 7k.
Still worried about the 10K in just five weeks but even if I have to walk some of it I will still finish. Back to parkrun this week then focusing on proper training again for a few weeks! I'm going to stick to 5-7k after my run as starting to get a few niggling injuries Sad
Hope everyone has a good weekend

SkiBike007 · 02/06/2017 14:33

Gd luck with your park run zippy you will be fine by the time of your 10k if your running 7k already. I'd do one 5k a week and one longer run adding 0.5k /4mins a week to it and your hit 10k ok.

SkiBike007 · 02/06/2017 14:35

I found getting to 5k a very linear training line but making the crossover 5-10k more up/down so I mixed up the run lengths v speed and built it up gradually as my joints were achy abit I also swim in the week which is fab cross trading stretching out my legs, plus bit of at home yoga.

Zippyzulu · 02/06/2017 15:09

Thanks ski. I did 8.5k a few weeks ago but walked a few times and this was non stop running so I am feeling a bit more positive now.
My knees are struggling a bit- I've had surgery four times in total in both and so far they've been ok but just a bit jiggly now- I really should do some lower impact stuff too. I replaced a run day with a swim while on holiday and really enjoyed it but it is tricky fitting in a swim at home as dh works and travels a lot- I can leave teen dd at home with the younger dc while I run laps around the house but feel a bit more anxious being out of contact in the pool!
I will carry on with my weekly parkrun, do a speedy 3-4K during my girls' dance lesson and do one longer run every week and hope that gets me doing a comfortable 10K... fingers crossed!
