Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Applause to Crotchet and Miranda. I'll be bloody proud of myself when I can do 5.

ScarlettDarling · 01/09/2016 19:42

Thanks Basin I've ordered myself an arm strap thingy. Didn't have a clue what people did with their phones/keys etc, shows how new I am to this running malarkey! Thought I'd have to get me a bum bag!

Mirandawest · 02/09/2016 16:59

Have ordered armband for my nano Smile

Went running with DH this morning as run 1 of week 6 had walking in it. Felt quite hard work but was probably good for me.

Will be harder once children are back at achool as DS needs to be up by about 7:15 and DD a bit after that and so me going running at about 7:45 isn't really going to work. May have to run at 6:30 instead. Don't particularly like this idea...

BasinHaircut · 03/09/2016 08:51

Week 3 run 1 done! Felt OK running for 3 minutes.

Agree the hardest bit so far has been fitting it in to the schedule!

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 03/09/2016 11:01

yeah fitting it in is going to be harder now in term time, plus the fact it gets darker earlier. And rainier. And for me, the fact that I sweat so much and have a red face for about an hour afterwards, which makes it hard to do it in the middle of the day and then look presentable enough to go out afterwards, which I need to do.

Wearing glasses is also a pain! Bad enough with sweat, but what will happen when it gets colder and rainier, and they're steamed up or spotted with raindrops, hmmm.

Not sure how much more I can do before the pain cripples me again, so might take 3 days n between runs instead of 2. I'm notching it up by only 30sec at a time, or reducing the walk time by 30sec. Taken 5 months to get to 5 minutes, so I guess it will be a while at this rate...

cathyandclare · 03/09/2016 11:02

i've got that one anasnake, I sometimes want to punch her with her chirpy "You're doing' it" stuff. I like the way it builds up the run time though.
I've been rubbish this week, lots of work and feeling flat/no energy/can't be arsed-ish. I'm on week 6 and hadn't done any runs.
Then < drum roll> this morning I went and did a park run ( my first one, I registered in a fit of enthusiasm after watching the Brownlees at the Olympics) . I have NO IDEA where that spurt of motivation came from.
I actually ran all the way too. Very, very slow and steady, and it's York so super-flat. But I wasn't last, so I am dead chuffed.

Mirandawest · 03/09/2016 11:33

My local park run is York Smile Did you know that Jonathan Brownlee holds the course record? I will try and go again at some point.

Is a good thing park run is at 9am as is now very wet in York

cathyandclare · 03/09/2016 11:37

I don't think I'm going to be challenging his time any day soon Miranda

NeedACostaDetox · 03/09/2016 16:36

Went out today for the first time since Sunday and it was tough Can't seem to fit 3 runs in so hoping that walking 3 miles a day to school and back and 2x a week of C25K will be sufficient.

My birthday is coming up - any recommendations for running clothes/kit that I might want Wink

Mirandawest · 05/09/2016 12:11

Did week 6 run 2 today - two 10 minute runs with 3 minutes walk in the middle.

Not keen on the thought of the 25 minute run for the next run. Or the thought of early morning runs when children back at school. So may well run tomorrow as children with XH tonight and so I don't have to get them up in the morning (plus they're not back at school either).

NeedACostaDetox · 05/09/2016 13:21

Wow, well done Miranda, how did that go? You can always repeat runs (I do).

BasinHaircut · 05/09/2016 13:31

Good going Miranda!

I'm going for week 3 run 2 later. So pleased with myself for keeping this up. Diet has gone to shite though!!!

Mirandawest · 05/09/2016 13:33

It was actually surprisingly ok - didn't look too much like a tomato when I got back and I felt all right. I think it's more the thought of knowning there's no more walking intervals that's putting me off rather than my own ability to do it.

NeedACostaDetox · 05/09/2016 19:04

I've walked 4 miles today - can't imagine jogging that much! Guess it really is all in the mind.

BasinHaircut · 05/09/2016 21:05

Week 3 run 2 done! I'm so excited that by the weekend I'll be on week 4!!!

cathyandclare · 06/09/2016 07:58

Am at the end of week 6, Did the third one yesterday, 15 minute run then 3 minute walk then 5 min run (with warm up/cool down walks) on my app. that was ok but peeked ahead to week seven-it is just twenty minute runs on my app.
Feel a bit nervous but also relieved I'm not using your app Miranda

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 06/09/2016 08:29

Starting week 3 tomorrow and I'm going to have to start listening to an app I think. Up to now I've been holding my phone and looking at it but that's just going to lead to me dropping it at some point.

I like the idea of the Sarah Millican one but are people still having problems with it crashing?

Mirandawest · 06/09/2016 08:59

Did my 25 min run Smile. Is humid out there. Worked out how far I ran using map my run afterwards and now I would like to go a bit faster Grin

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 06/09/2016 09:47

Faster, she says. I'd be phenomenally impressed with myself right now just for lasting 25 minutes. Congrats Miranda Star

FailingAtLifeRightNow · 06/09/2016 12:14

Ummmm..... Im just gonna say it and then its real and i have to do it......
I AM GOING TO START C25K!!!

I.do.not.run. AT ALL!!

Any advise on clothes, accessories to help or best trainers (the only pair I have are Vans - not really suitable!!) would be much appreciated!!

NeedACostaDetox · 06/09/2016 12:56

Hi Failing I'm not the poster child as I'm struggling to fit it in, but I'm really not a runner either and I'm about to embark on week 4 - I did each week twice over so just taking it slowly.

I just run in leggings, sports bra and a T but have gone and got some good trainers in the sweatshop sale.

I just go to a quiet corner of a quiet park and get on with it. My walk down and back serves as my warm up/cool down.

Good luck!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 06/09/2016 13:05

Good on you, Failing!

I'm a total beginner too. I run on the way to work so I bought a small rucksack but that's all so far - I run in T-shirt & shorts & need to get some decent trainers and an arm holder for my phone, but I decided I wanted to be certain I was going to keep it up first. Starting week 3 tomorrow so after that I think it will be shopping time.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 07/09/2016 08:07

W3R1 done! I look like a tomato but it wasn't nearly as tough as I expected Grin

BasinHaircut · 07/09/2016 08:51

empress I thought the same about week 3 - I'm doing run 3 tonight and am excited about starting week 4 on Saturday.

Can anyone give me a heads up about week 4? How much running is it?

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 07/09/2016 08:57

There's a plan of the whole thing here, Basin. Although I don't know whether some of the apps vary a bit.
