Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Good luck, Nightshade!

Girlfriend - yes, I don't think I'd be up for running straight after eating either.

UnconsciousCoupling · 22/08/2016 12:00

Good going team Wink

Can someone help me please?! I'm about to start Couch 2 5k and I've got my kti ready and downloaded the app etc. but Im' a bit confused by the 'track your days' bit of the app. I understand it in theory but I don't understand if I pick my own day 1 of week 1 or if the weekdays are automatically numbered (i.e. the weeks always start on Monday or always start on sunday etc.) everytime I open it it seems to take itself to a random day so I'm not sure where to begin with marking days.

If it helps I plan to do my first 'run' tomorrow (Tuesday)

I know this makes me seem really incredibly dense (there is a reason for my username) but I've been fiddling round with it for days now and I want to have it sorted before I start tomorrow!

Pumpkingirl · 22/08/2016 18:40

Sorry soup - I think I am using a different app as it doesn't have that!

Good going to all those getting their sessions done!

W3R3 for me - on the treadmill so easier on the calves. But nervous about going up to the longer runs in week 4.

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 22/08/2016 19:03

I'm out. :(

I had really sore shins after my first run, they haven't improved much and were sore during today's run. Googling seems to suggest it's shin splints, which means no running for at least 2 weeks. Just when I was feeling motivated Confused

I'm going to try cycling and maybe some yoga to stretch my legs out and then come back to running in a few weeks.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 22/08/2016 19:48

Poor you, Soup.

Hope your legs get better soon.

BasinHaircut · 22/08/2016 22:05

I didn't get out for my run today as we were travelling home from a mad weekend and TBH i was too exhausted! Definitely gong tomorrow instead though

UnconsciousCoupling · 23/08/2016 06:22

Oh no Soup mine finally feel better after 13 runs...but then they were sore during the run only and ok after.

Keep at the exercise - doesn't matter what you do. Please feel free to check in here.

Did my last run of week 1 tonight and it felt pretty good. Had to wait until the sun went down though as it was super hot!

Going to start week 2 on Thursday and am excited about actually progressing past week 1!

soupforbrains · 24/08/2016 13:56

Thanks for the sympathy guys but I think it should have been aimed at squirrel not me.

I managed to figure out the app in the end. and did my first run on Tuesday morning. It went well, I was pleasantly surprised that I made it, and astonishingly I'm looking forward to doing ym second run tomorrow morning! Smile

the app did sort of crash halfway through though, I didn't notice because the aduio carried on so i finished the run and then discovered it so it didn't 'tick off' my run. I've given up on that app now and downloaded another one, it's a shame because I liked having Sarah Millican cheering me on and now I just have a lsightly irritating american woman. but at least the app seems to work and this one tracks the distance run and speed etc. too

I am So surprised my how motivated I am for this, it's amazing how making a plan have achievable stages and targets can completely change your attitude Grin

UnconsciousCoupling · 24/08/2016 15:44

Sorry Soup heat and multi tasking wrangling children got in the way. I just use my phone's stop watch function...I'm really not into technology and I tend to do the same loop at this point so I can then put the phone away and work on that.

Well done for everyone who has got out in the heat, I've put it off yesterday and today. Hoping to get out tomorrow or Friday.

I'm also slacking - should do W4R1 today but it is super hot, I have getting a cold and have an exam tomorrow. Feeling exhausted from this cold coming on. Hope to get my mojo back in a day or two.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 24/08/2016 17:48

Sorry Soup and Squirrel!

I use my phone's stopwatch too. Planning to do W1R3 tomorrow.

Emptynestx2 · 24/08/2016 18:03

The app crashed for me too, I think it's playing music at the same time for me. If just using stopwatch how,do,you know, how much running or walking to so each week? I've done 3 runs in week 2 but have cataract surgery tomorrow so may repeat this week when I can run again - it's still not easy for me!

cathyandclare · 24/08/2016 18:06

Hi there!
Can I join in? I started 3 weeks ago, got really excited and motored through to week 5 but starting to struggle now (story of my life, go too fast and then give up) so may have to repeat this for a while. I also ran with DD who's a bit too fast for me so that may have made it harder. I did keep going though.
Day off today. Egged on my DH I've registered for the run in the dark in November, so hoping to be able to finish 5k in a not-too-humiliating time by then. Seems a looooooong way off at the moment.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 24/08/2016 18:25

I set an alarm on my phone for the end of the 20 mins (or whatever).

Good luck with the surgery, Emptynest.

Emptynestx2 · 24/08/2016 18:39

Thanks empress! Feeling a bit nervous but life will be so much better when it's done.

Do you try and run for the whole 20 minutes?

Anasnake · 24/08/2016 18:58

Just done my first run - lots of stretching for my dodgy back. Now onto M&S to order a sports bra as my boobs need strapping down x

UnconsciousCoupling · 25/08/2016 06:14

Empty - I walk down to the park, that takes about 8 minutes and that's my warm up. I put my drink and keys down and turn timer on and do required jog and see where that takes me, then reset timer and walk and see where that takes me. Repeat e.g. 4 times

I just look up on google what that week requires me to do. Week 3 was 2x 90s jog 90s walk then 3min jog, 3 min walk.

Then I walk home again - not that exciting but at the moment I don't want to be jogging in the street with cars/people going past.

www.nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k-plan.aspx

Good luck with the eyes - sure it will go well.

Well done Ana

Cathy I think that's why I'm spending 2 weeks on each week, don't want to feel overwhelmed. Sure you can build up a lot between now and Nov!

OP posts:
EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 25/08/2016 08:14

Ok that's week 1 done, not sure yet whether I'll repeat or move to week 2.

I had a look at the app but I think I'm going to just use it for recording my progress.

BasinHaircut · 25/08/2016 13:03

That Sarah Millican app doesn't record my runs either! Glad it's not just me. I didn't have music playing bough so it's not just that.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative one? I'm assuming it will just let me pick a run to do so doesn't matter if it doesn't log though?

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 25/08/2016 14:03

It's the idea of the chatting etc that puts me off! I just don't like voices yammering in my ears. Some of the later runs do look complicated though so I might see if I can set the app to vibrate when I need to switch.

Anasnake · 25/08/2016 19:44

Run 2 of week 1 done, baby steps. Sports bra bought, running leggings and top bought - I will do this !!!

Anasnake · 25/08/2016 20:11

Don't like the voice on the app though, it's American and randomly says things like 'awesome runner' every so often, makes me cringe !

Mirandawest · 25/08/2016 20:15

I am a returner to couch to 5k - have done it several times over a number of years - is just sticking to it once I've made it to 5k that's the problem Grin

Am currently on week 4 and my body managed to do 5 min run in one so hopefully I'll be able to keep going.

I did once break 28 min for 5k but that was nearly 4 years ago...
