Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

Hi Squirrel hope you've been out now. Weather here isn't great today.

Hello!

Just completed my first session & celebrating with a coffee. It was quite tough so I'm feeling very pleased with myself and determined to keep it up.

I tried Parkrun this morning but it just brought back memories of being lapped by my whole class at school. I am damn well GOING to get running though so this seems like the way to do it!

Squirrelfruitandnutkin · 20/08/2016 14:51

Just back! Halo
Weather ok here - windy though which made some of the runs a bit harder.
I did it though! Celebrating with a banana before I try the next challenge - getting a sweaty sports bra off! Blush

UnconsciousCoupling · 20/08/2016 14:58

Hurrah Squirrel and Empress

Hurrah everyone! Thanks for starting this thread,Unconscious - you're setting a great example!

I normally walk to work so I'm going to do this a couple of mornings a week and at the weekend. My route in's already full of panting joggers, I'll be one more Grin.

Pumpkingirl · 20/08/2016 17:14

Well done all! Did week 3, day 2 today. Grand really but my calves are killing me! Anyone experience this? Am trying to stretch loads. Does this pass as you get used to running??

(My steps app puts my running time down as cycling - it has never seen me move this fast!!)Grin

AnnettePrice · 20/08/2016 18:12

Hi OP, I'm on W4 R1 tomorrow.
Before work and life (STBXH) got in the way I nearly finished c2 10k. Now 2 years later and I had to start at W1, I do find it easier knowing that if I stick to 3 runs a week I should progress the weeks without having to redo many.

I procrastinate loads do I have found that if I'm working from home, I get dressed into my running gear so I have no excuse when lunch time comes around to go for a run.

Pumpkingirl, my calves are solid and by the final rep of a run they hurt, I'm stretching so next thing I'm going to try is a foam roller. I have always suffered from short calves also people who wear heals a lot (though I don't) could well have short calves.

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/the-running-blog/2014/feb/28/foam-roller-runners-guide-muscles

For the people buying running shoes off the net, I personally would only do that for a repeat pair, if I was looking for a new pair/ style I would go to the local running shop who should check the fit and gate, properly fitting shoes that are correct for your gate and what you run on could stop you getting many of the usual running injuries. A little more money spent could save on the physio bills.

Good luck everyone!!
You can do it. Every time you go out for a run is one more time than the people vegging on their couch!

Pumpkingirl · 20/08/2016 22:06

Thanks for the tip, Annette - might try that. Get

Pumpkingirl · 20/08/2016 22:07

Whoops that posted too early! Getting to 10k would be amazing - if you've done it once sure you can again!

UnconsciousCoupling · 21/08/2016 07:11

I tend to have shins that get a bit sore. Hoping it will improve. Doesn't seem to matter if I go on tarmac or grass.

Off to eat something and then get myself ready. Really not in the mood this morning but I'm hopeful that the sense of achievement of going out and doing it will make me feel better.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 21/08/2016 07:14

Good luck, Unhelpful.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 21/08/2016 07:15

Agh! Sorry! Unconscious!

UnconsciousCoupling · 21/08/2016 07:39

Thanks...still on here Wink ...at least I'm eating now.

if you are out running today, l hope you had a good one and didn't get to wet.

Did W4R1 this morning, I am sure that snails passed me on the 1st 5 min run which was up a massive hill slight incline
Next run on Tuesday and I'll make sure it's totally flat Grin

Emptynestx2 · 21/08/2016 11:57

Just done second run of week 2, really wasn't in the mood but glad it's done!

How often should we buy new trainers, I had mine correctly dotted but it was years ago.

Anasnake · 21/08/2016 11:57

I tried last year - was doing well, up to week 7 then did my back in and it all went tits up. About to start again - lots of stretching, fingers crossed

whatstheplanphil · 21/08/2016 12:02

Hi - am planning to start this when kids go back to school. Am very un fit / fat etc would love to lose weight and get fitter. My start date is 1st September .

UnconsciousCoupling · 21/08/2016 14:33

Hello everyone

I did make it out and I'm so proud of myself!

Phil I'm also hoping that September will bring some momentum. I will be walking 3 miles daily on the school run. 3 days week it will be with a double pushchair! On day 4 I want do do a run on day 5 I'd like to go swimming or do a class of some sort and then do another run over the weekend. I'm hoping the weight will just fall off me probably would if I could stop stuffing my face Grin

Yay Unconscious!

My legs have been aching a bit today which is interesting, since they don't normally give a fuck about long walks or Zumba. Hopefully it's a good sign! Second session tomorrow.

whatstheplanphil · 21/08/2016 16:43

I chose September because I'm back to work after annual leave / kids back to school etc - I'm gonna combine abit of slimming world with c25k and swimming, hopefully I'll loose some weight !!!!! Oh and I thought I would take a month of the booze aswell as have been drinking too much this holiday.

UnconsciousCoupling · 21/08/2016 18:05

Similar plans then Grin I'm not a drinker though but am drinking water only in the house.

Empress after saying that, my legs were fine...maybe it is just a period of adjustment and will improve now.

That would make sense. Hopefully mine will adjust soon too.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 22/08/2016 09:21

Good bit: Second session done & just fitted nicely into my commute.

Not so good bit: My thighs!

Todays the day W1R1. I will be going this evening when OH gets in, DD 10 is coming with me (ive already told her so there is no getting out of it now).

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 22/08/2016 10:08

My plan is to run twice a week, once on the wend and once on my day off. I don't think realistically i will run on my work days but it is a physical job, also would be too scared to run once it starts getting darker in the evenings!

Do you all wait a certain amount of time after eating before running? I think if I ate and then ran I would be sick!
