Hi

Has anyone recently started or just about to start? Would be great to have somewhere to check in and cheer each other on.

I've started very slowly and am about to embark on week 3. I'm spending 2 weeks on each week if that makes sense!

Look forward to anyone else joining in.

yes the apps are all a bit different, apparently for copyright reasons! They are officially allowed to call themselves Couch to 5K, either, but various versions of it that make it obvious that's what it is.

I am doing my own versions of Week 4, ranging from intervals of 3 min to 6 min running. I'll do it about a dozen times, then move on.

Today was the first day that steamy glasses got really annoying. I don't know if it was because it was earlier in the day, or more humid, or cooler, or because I was working harder, or what. Going to be frustrating later in the season, especially if it gets wetter. I'm already finding it harder to fit it in in term time as I have lots of things throughout the day, and even if I find the 40 min to do it, it's the waiting an hour afterwards before seeing people that's the problem! And finding time to clean up and change after, and not doing it too soon after eating, and lots of other reasons. It was easier in the summer when I could go out at 7 or 8pm, but the field I use isn't lit. It has lots of paths, but not many light, and that might be hard.

Thanks empress, that looks about right to me.

Just smashed week 3 run 3. So pleased with myself Grin

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 07/09/2016 21:11

Basin Wine

That's going to be me at the weekend!

MoonlightMojitos · 08/09/2016 18:28

Hello! I'd like to join! Did my first ever run last night, the app I'm using was 60secs run, 90 secs walk for 8 sets (plus 5mins warm up and cool down). My God, I am so unfit! I really struggled! I feel like the 90secs to recover is more than enough it doesn't take me that long to be ok again but the actual 60secs of jogging I get so out of breath!

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 08/09/2016 18:44

Welcome Mojitos, and congrats on getting started!

I wasn't at all sure I'd finish week 1 and now I'm nearly through week 3 Grin. Having the thread to share on really helps.

healthyobsessions · 09/09/2016 18:16

Can I join please?!
I've just finished week one, can't actually believe I managed it Shock

NeedACostaDetox · 09/09/2016 20:10

More the merrier! That sense of achievement of doing week 1 is great.

I managed to get out today - it is hard to fit it in. I'm thinking that once it gets wintery I will go on the pavement cause I can't see it happening otherwise.

I did 3x 3min runs with 90 sec walks - not that much but I've walked 17 miles this week in school runs and my body didn't want to do any more!

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/09/2016 20:26

Had a rubbish outing tonight, walked for loads of the bits I should have been running for, much less running than the previous one, and ended up in a lot more pain, too. Can't even get 5 min without loads of pain in my shins and ankles. I'd thought it was getting better, but a real downward trend today! Will try to make myself go out in a couple of days and repeat the one from today. Maybe there is a reason it was bad, but can't think of anything particularly different.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/09/2016 20:44

I've just remembered I donated blood a few days ago, so that might still be affecting me. Wouldn't think it would make a difference when we're talking only a few minutes of running, and I don't see why it should increase the pain in my shins and ankles and calves so much, but I guess it must have somehow. Maybe just being more tired meant I was using the muscles differently.

NeedACostaDetox · 09/09/2016 21:00

I find the later in the day, the harder i find it. 8am is my best time (only possible at the weekends obviously).

Hope you feel better next time Crochet

healthyobsessions · 09/09/2016 21:23

Thank you and yes, the sense of achievement is amazing! I really didn't think I'd get past day one!

BasinHaircut · 09/09/2016 22:07

Starting week 4 in the morning and I'm actually looking forward to it, what's all that about???

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 10/09/2016 09:32

Crotchet, replacing the blood apparently takes loads of energy so maybe that's part of it. Welcome, Healthy!

healthyobsessions · 10/09/2016 18:55

Thank you Smile

NeedACostaDetox · 10/09/2016 20:54

How did it go Basin? I only managed 3x 3minutes - trying to build up to week 4 i suppose. Need to go out tomorrow and try to do more.

MoonlightMojitos · 10/09/2016 23:24

Thanks empress! Although I haven't been able to get out again since which is bad... was hoping to today but then it rained all morning and had work this afternoon. Fx for tomorrow. I know if I leave it too long I'll lose motivation!

What plans are you all doing? Mine is the same for the first 3 runs - 60secs run, 90secs walk x8.

I'd love to be able to do it before work but I just don't have the time, can't be dealing with getting up before 6 to have time to run and shower! I sweat so much... it's ridiculous. What is it with these people in the gym who just don't sweat? I have a friend who isn't particularly fit and she doesn't sweat, just goes REALLY red but she pops to the gym on her lunch and just does a wet wipe wash. I look like I've had a shower before I have.

AnnettePrice · 11/09/2016 15:22

W4R3 done.
I ended up having almost 3 weeks off. But that was spending time with DC on holiday chilling. De-stressing was so needed so I see it as a positive but I'm determined to not let it slip again.
moonlight were you able to get out today? There is something about starting a run in the rain that is depressing, but I find that if the rain starts once your out then it just doesn't seem so bad. I find running in a waterproof too hot so I prefer to just get wet.
I hope everyone that planned to get out for a run today did and enjoyed it (even if some times it is the completing the run that's the enjoyable but rather than during the run itself)

Mirandawest · 12/09/2016 11:59

Did a 25 min run this morning. Not sure whether it was week 7 run 2 or run 3 (think it was run 2). Did a shorter run on Friday as needed to get children up for school. So think next run will be the last 25 min one.

Need to check properly how far I'm going although not sure I really mind. Will borrow DHs Garmin another day as he's working away this week and forgot to take it away with him Grin

BasinHaircut · 12/09/2016 14:09

Need it went well surprisingly. I felt good. Doing run 2 tonight.

Plantar fasciitis is starting to play up again which is annoying by I'm determined to keep going.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 12/09/2016 14:31

Just finished my W4R1, felt like the hardest yet, but then so did W3R1. And I'm now taking it for granted that I can run 3 mins. Staying with family near Brighton so running by the sea for a change.

Poor you Basin, hope that improves.

AnnettePrice · 12/09/2016 14:33

Basin have you seen anyone about PF? I did and I ended up getting wider shoes, doing calf stretch exercises and to aliviate the pain I rolled a Golf ball on the floor with my foot (works like those massage balls but cheaper :-) )
Good luck and I hope it doesn't come back.

BasinHaircut · 12/09/2016 14:43

annette yes I have special shoes, do the exercises and had a steriod injection a few months back for it. Thought it had gone but ever since I've started running it's been twingeing, but is quite sore now.

healthyobsessions · 14/09/2016 11:17

Week 2 Day 2 completed Grin

BasinHaircut · 14/09/2016 11:18

Disaster! I'm feeling ill and definitely not up to running tonight. Gutted. Was supposed to complete week 4 tonight.

But maybe it's a good thing in a way as my foot is quite sore so will be good to rest it for an extra day or two.

EmpressKnowsWhereHerTowelIs · 14/09/2016 11:25

Resting it sounds like a good idea, Basin. Hope you feel better soon.

W4R2 done. This is the first week my Fitbit's noticed I'm running, not walking. I like the recognition Grin
