Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

10th run for me yesterday and a pb achieved. 30.03 - those pesky 3 seconds!!

cinnamongreyhound · 19/09/2016 16:12

Thanks feetheart, had to get my friend who's an rd to do the briefing as I couldn't speak without crying Sad

Our scanner broke!!!!! Had to manually write all barcodes!!

Are we still getting together on 15th fiftynineoheight? And is it at me or wimpole?

standingonlego · 19/09/2016 18:29

cinners...just caught up with full thread, sending you a big hug. We sometimes just have to take a step back and rebase. We will all be here for you. The good thing about parkrun is that there will always be next week x

standingonlego · 19/09/2016 18:31

Cheers to everyone celebrating PBs or approaching milestone t-shirts Smile This thread never fails to inspire me, and is the most positive supportive place on mumsnet.

karatekimmi · 19/09/2016 20:08

melanie my first parkrun was without a barcode, so my actuall 10" is in 2 more runs, but need the extra one to be official!!

swampytiggaa · 20/09/2016 17:16

I am supposed to be at work 9-5 on Saturday :( asked a cheeky favour and am going in at 10-30 after parkrun and a shower :) told the boss lady it's essential training for my 10 mile race ;)

I don't get paid for the time tbh which makes her happy and there is enough cover without me or I wouldn't have asked.

MelanieCheeks · 21/09/2016 07:26

Good negotiating Tigga.

I'm not running, sadly. And it's Tim Page's final one of teh 22 Norn Irn runs that he's doing, at Stormont, with local MLAs and the like participating. But I have an all day dance course to attend. And I did say that I was concentrating on dancing this year, and therefore did no long races.

But I WILL be able to go along before the run, and give Tim a special T shirt I've made with a map of NI on it, and buttons sewn for each parkrun.

Tourist plans for October:
1st, possibly Colin Glen if not needed for volunteer duty
8th NEW PARKRUN in Omagh, about an hour away
15th Southwark, on a trip to London to see dancing daughter (whose show has just been listed in Time Out as a must-see preens)
22nd Possibly Victoria to scrape 17 secs off and get a PB
29th volunteering, as I'm doing a fancy dress Monster Mash run later in the day

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/09/2016 09:38

kimmi I still haven't got over the week that i was "unknown runner" even hough I had my barcode. The ED said she would try to fix it but she didn't (I know she had better things to do Grin)

cinners 15th is still good for me. I can do either - DS has half term so there's no match to get back for. Let me know what suits you.

Ds1 has done at least 10 but won't be able to officially start collecting until he turns 4. I just went to register him, hoping to have his wristband ready for his birthday present, but he has to be 4 already for the system to accept him. I'm assuming it would be immoral to add a couple of months to his age...

cinnamongreyhound · 22/09/2016 16:54

I like to travel fiftynineoheight but I know you wanted to try a new one so happy if you want to come to me. Anyone else fancy a meet up 15th oct?

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/09/2016 18:25

OK cinners I will come to you, will see if I can round up a posse Smile

I've always been lucky whenever else I've forgotten my barcode as I've always been added to the results (naughty I know!!)

chutneypig · 23/09/2016 06:49

Sorted that well swampy Grin

That's a fantastic list Melanie like a sweetie shop!

How frustrating Purple, it'd be a quick fix now but I guess would cause problems at 11, a long way off I know Grin but it'll come!

Volunteering for me tomorrow as I've got a half on Sunday. DS will be doing his fiftieth.

AuntieStella · 23/09/2016 07:26

I'm thinking about trying a Parkrun in the coming month or two, as I'm on week 7 of C25K and think I'm about ready.

That's why I'm starting to read running threads. But I had to google for 'DFYB' and was slightly alarmed when the top hits were all 'Don't Fuck Your Brother'

I mean, I get the idea of social runs, but that did seem like a warning too far Grin

PurplePidjin · 23/09/2016 12:23

chutney the dob field remains editable after registration. I'd go back in after his birthday and change it. And I'm rule-bound enough that I wouldn't actually give it to him till he was 4 anyway!

MelanieCheeks · 23/09/2016 16:54

Giggling at AuntieStella's googling!

Hopefully you DID find out that it means Dont Forget Your Barcode Smile

chutneypig · 23/09/2016 18:33

Grin AuntieStella!

In that case I'd go for it to get his band for his birthday Purple, and I'm as rule bound as you!

miked99 · 24/09/2016 11:13

Strange run today - there were about 50 more people than usual as schooI holidays have started so it was a little crowded at the start, I felt tired all the way and loads of people seemed to overtake me so I thought of cutting short after about 3Kms.
But in the end I was only 7 seconds different from last week, I guess it shows how it's a mental thing as much as a fitness thing.

swampytiggaa · 24/09/2016 14:05

Parkrun number 17 done today :) ran with my friend in our new running club teeshirts. Jeffed it in 33.53 which took over a minute off her pb! Really pleased!

In work now and want to eat lots

Ours was quiet today as the next town along has its marathon and half tomorrow so lots of our 'serious' runners were preparing for that. Have added a photo of me and my friend. I'm the short one ;)

AwakeCantSleep · 24/09/2016 16:33

Parkrun number 3 Smile I started way too quickly, and then regretted it during the last 2km or so. By the time I reached the finish line I was feeling sick and had to lie down Blush I was fine though. At least I got a new PB for my troubles, of 30:37 Smile

I'll definitely try to go slower next time. Though I find it hard to pace myself with so many people overtaking.... (There were over 350 runners at our run today.)

AwakeCantSleep · 24/09/2016 16:36

swampy great work, and nice photo! You both look like serious runners (while I tend to look like a mess, especially afterwards Smile).

0ellenbrody0 · 24/09/2016 18:16

Good run this morning. No pb, but only 3 seconds slower. DD1 is going to volunteer every week for her D of E silver award starting next week, which is great. D of E volunteers can work up to do a joint run director role but I think she just wants to get her hands on the scanners!

karatekimmi · 24/09/2016 19:56

My sister ran with me and the boys, 98th run!

awake not starting too fast is the hardest thing sometimes and a really common "mistake". I used a few parkruns to start at the front and let people run past me to get my marathon pace! Besides if you don't throw up over the line, you haven't worked hard enough it's a run not a race

chutneypig · 24/09/2016 20:25

The mind is a strange thing. I've had runs like that too miked.

Great pic swampy and well done to you both.

Really well done too Awake. I inadvertently got in front of DS and DH once and boy did that hurt later. DD and I wanted to stay in front as long as we could.

That's close 0ellen well done.

Nice family outing then karate. Not far to 100!

We were quiet today too, our local half/marathon is on tomorrow. I was lucky to nab a spot as tailrunner, most of the volunteers are running tomorrow. I planned ahead as it was DSs 50th. PB for him and boy did he look comfortable as he passed us on his second lap. DH not so much!

cinnamongreyhound · 24/09/2016 21:39

I got caught by parkrunners on my dog walk so couldn't get home and it was impressive seeing them all run past, was 105 at my home today. Missed running with them by my course was actually awesome for once!!
