Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Have a great birthday run tiggaa :o

chutneypig · 10/09/2016 06:50

Oh no Purple! Marshalling is a good way to go, is DH running?

I imagine your decision might be weather based Fifty if it's raining like here!

Happy birthday swampy, what a great day you've got planned.

Hope it all goes well feet

Has your week calmed down cinnamon?

Tipping down here, not sure how much enthusiasm there'll be from the whole family to go but lots of focus on t shirts here so fingers crossed.

PurplePidjin · 10/09/2016 09:42

They were overwhelmed with volunteers so I've got the week off and am signed up for barcode scanning next time. Good job because ds1 is refusing to leave the house! Dh has gone to pick up his numbers and pasties :o

cinnamongreyhound · 10/09/2016 11:08

Perfect swampytigga!

No it didn't chutneypig, thanks for asking it actually got worse. I didn't run, I went to collect the signs I usually put out as they weren't at mine because i was on holiday and managed to reverse my car along the fence in the country park. This led to yet another pr related arguement with dh where he told me parkrun is everything I spend too much time either there or dealing with it and it's more important than him and my boys so it's with a very sad heart that I am going to give up my roles as ed and rd and I have agreed to only run parkrun once a month. Gutted is not the word but I so need some peace in my life and have to eliminate something that causes so much tension in my marriage. I will stick around to keep up with you guys and obviously post on my monthly runs too Smile

chutneypig · 10/09/2016 11:23

I am really sorry to hear that cinnamon but completely understand why you've come to the decision. Hopefully it'll settle down Flowers

swampytiggaa · 10/09/2016 12:09

Oh cinnamon that's so sad :(

I didn't get my breakfast - friend got an injury part way round :( she made me finish then we helped her back home and had coffee and sloe gin ;) so I feel a bit pissed now ;)

Probably do2

miked99 · 10/09/2016 13:22

Rejoining this thread from Oz after a few months away taking kids to soccer. Ran as tourists at a beautiful but very hilly and tiring course at Lakeview.
It's an out and back run so you have to go up a big hill twice for your troubles. Seemed to suit young kids as several went flying past me going up and under 10s came 4th and 5th. I found out later a 6 year old there is past his 50 runs and is well on his way to 100! Quite pleased I came in the top 25 but my legs are still sore hours later.

needyounow · 10/09/2016 16:36

Sorry to hear that cinnamon Flowers

Swampy hope your friend is ok and that you enjoyed your sloe gin.

Second run today and got a PB, so I am very happy. Makes all the hard work, pain and injury worth while.

londonmummy1966 · 10/09/2016 16:40

Happy birthday tigger
Cinammon so sorry to hear that - bit unfair not to let you have a hobby and its not as if it is an expensive one. Hopefully it will all calm down and you will be able to discreetly slip some extra runs in in a few weeks time....

Back to my home parkrun today so confronted with 2 ascents of horrible big hill. Decided to try a very fast and long stride walk up them to see if it had any bearing on time/exhaustion. Managed to shave 3 secs off my pb so it might be the way to go. Still not under the 30 min mark (need to lose another 20 secs or so) but might try the neighbouring run sometime as it is pancake flat so ought to be able to pick up some speed there.

MelanieCheeks · 10/09/2016 16:57

Flowers for Cinners. Maybe in time.....

Happy Birthday Tigga! Sloe gin sounds like a good tipple.

I had a common or garden parkrun today - my 80th at my home event, best time there since June (but still way off my PB). Minnie was beaten by a 3 legged dog and a partially sighted one, lovely that parkrun is so inclusive. I'm feeling so inspired by the paralympics.

Knackerelli · 10/09/2016 22:36

Sorry to hear that cinammon Parkrun causes a few arguments in our house too. Hopefully in a few weeks you can discuss it again when tension is not as high?

Well done to all runners and volunteers today!

PurplePidjin · 11/09/2016 14:55

cinnamon that truly sucks. Hope all's well for you elsewise x

2:20 something, still waiting on the official numbers. He's very tired and very chuffed

chutneypig · 11/09/2016 16:41

Great stuff Purple, tell him well done from me.

Inclusive dog parkrun, wonderful Melanie!

Volunteering for me this morning, both kids smashed their PBs and were first in their age category. DS has always been up there but it's lovely to see DD gaining in confidence.

I got my best ever position yesterday but numbers were a bit thin on the ground. Never mind!!

Flat courses will feel so much easier after nasty hills london - we rotate between a hilly and flat one and it's amazing the difference it's made on the flat.

MelanieCheeks · 11/09/2016 18:17

Any London runners on here? I'm planning on doing Southwark on 15th october....

PurplePidjin · 11/09/2016 19:33

2:17:54 and £254.93 raised :o :o :o

londonmummy1966 · 11/09/2016 19:43

purple that's brilliant - huge congrats from me.
DD did her first junior parkrun today - she's been doing Saturdays with me but now back to Saturday school. Sixth girl in and it was a fast field with a couple of hills. She is over the moon with her time - less so on discovering that junior and main parkruns are counted separately for earning t shirts etc.

Melanie - I'm in south London - pm me if you want to meet up on 15th.

FiftyNineOhEight · 12/09/2016 08:22

cinners I am sorry that parkrun is causing such strife in your household and hope that you manage to find the right balance.

Happy birthday Tiggaa

Welcome back Mike. Lovely to have a foreign correspondent on the thread!

Well done in PBs needyounow and londonmummy!

And extra well done to MrPidj. Did he do the GNR?

Bit souther, fifty Wink

Madeline29 · 13/09/2016 15:05

Did hilly Gateshead PR over the weekend it's my home PR also Newcastle as well. 26.40 was my time Saturday I'm 21 weeks pregnant so slowly getting slower as my PB is 23.20. Hopefully to keep it up for a few more weeks before taking a break until next year after the baby is due.

MyBlackCat · 13/09/2016 17:23

madeline that's still really good! I'm 27 weeks, pb of 23:41 and on Saturday I was 32:19 - I got slower so quickly as struggled with energy levels in 1st trimester. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to run for as everything is getting a lot tougher now Hmm

Madeline29 · 13/09/2016 17:42

MyblackCat - thats great your still doing it!! My problem is knowing when to slow down & pace myself! Saltwell isn't very flat either think its taking its toll on my back! I've told my partner I'm done with PRs now but really think I want to do a few more maybe just Newcastle as its flat but really busy usually 600 people turn up for it! Which one are you doing? xx

MyBlackCat · 13/09/2016 20:48

Melton Mowbray is my home run but I've spent much of the past 8 weeks running at different parkruns in Nottingham/Derbyshire/Staffordshire. Been good to enjoy different courses, I wanted to get to 60 runs before I stopped and this coming Saturday will be run 60 so anymore will be a bonus Grin

karatekimmi · 13/09/2016 21:15

cinnamon I hope he appreciates the sacrifice your making and is putting in as much effort to make peace xx

I managed about 5 months running and when it took me two days to recover from a slow parkrun I gracefully cried like a baby and refused to accept called it a day on running!! I did volunteer most weeks after that. Cinnamon was running up to the week before if I remember right so just listen to your body and look after yourself!!

I'm on run 96 and selfishly want to get to 100, but it's been a while since I volunteered! I promise I will when I reach 100!!

karatekimmi · 13/09/2016 21:16

(Middle paragraph is about running while pregnant!!)

chutneypig · 13/09/2016 21:38

I'm in awe of you all running while pregnant. And those times too Envy

You're spoilt for choice round our way MyBlackCat. Any you'd especially recommend nosey?
