Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Woohoo, well done all you firsttimers, and welcome aboard!

Go go Blathers Jr !

I didn't quite beat my previous run time at Antrim this morning, but I got closer than I'd imagined, and it was my fastest 5km time since May this year, so all good. I met another apricot topped guy who commented on my cow cowl - he's done 39 different events!

FiftyNineOhEight · 04/09/2016 08:23

Well done runners! Lovely to hear about new parkrunners having a good time.

Blathers DS sounds amazing! Fantastic!

I volunteered yesterday and am now one volunteer stint away from my purple shirt, which was my goal for this year. I have a HM coming up in October, so will volunteer that weekend.

Blathers and feet I'm doing a trail 10K in the Peak District with DS1 in November and am thinking of trying out Rushmere as it is probably the most trail-y parkrun within reasonable striking distance. Do either of you (and anyone else who is close enough) fancy a meet-up there at some point?

Blatherskite · 04/09/2016 08:28

Rushmere is tough but I'm up for a meet up. Might end up bringing DS as it's his favourite course.

I have a trail half in October. I'd better get training!

swampytiggaa · 04/09/2016 09:58

I am 3 volunteers away from my tee shirt! Not bad as I only got involved in parkrun in April! I volunteer most weeks at juniors which helps push my total up (having today off tho)

Hello all the new runners - this is a great thread. Excellent on the PB swampy. Sub 30 is my target after the Great South Run - I have my eye on the Tooting run for that as it is flat. Touring at Chichester yesterday 3 laps of a course which was mainly uphill but lots of really friendly people and a lot of dogs - one very massive one that looked as if it was dragging its human round - perhaps I need one of those for my HM... DD went with me - her last parkrun for a while as she is back to Saturday music school next week.

standingonlego · 04/09/2016 16:59

I am up for a rushmere jaunt, let me know what date you settle on. I am training for a trail half too blathers are you doing the dirt run? I recall you were part of the organising crew for that one (so nice to see a friendly face there Smile)

standingonlego · 04/09/2016 17:01

fiftyeight is your 10k a charity organised one? ...I keep having one pop up on my Facebook feed!

Finally...welcome to all the new folk and well done on parkrun 1. I also need to get volunteering catch up done once I get to my 100 (not far now!)

karatekimmi · 04/09/2016 20:06

Oh My Goodness!! Peterborough was a lively flat course for a spot of tourism ( and a new letter for me) and I was hoping for sub 30 and managed to get my second best time ever!! I was 2 seconds away from my PB (and when I did that I about collapsed and vomitted over the line)!! I'm gutted as I could have tried harder at the end (the final line was a bit blind so wasn't sure where it was) and I even stopped to wave at my kids!! I could of had a new PB!! Hey ho, there is always next week!!

Well done to all, some great running done by all!!

Blatherskite · 04/09/2016 20:14

I'll be working at the Dirt Half again Lego. I should think I'll end up in charge of HQ again.

I'm running Tissington. It's all downhill! Grin

FiftyNineOhEight · 04/09/2016 20:56

lego not charity AFAIK - it's one of these

Well done needyounow and MrsMarvel, it's a brilliant feeling isn't it, and very addictive. Your Saturday mornings will probably never be the same again :o

Wow to lots of bats and triathlon blathers :)

Well done kimmi too :)

Barcode scanning went really well thanks, better than some of the adults! The moral is - leave the 9 and 10 year old in charge. They have asked to do finish tokens together in 2 weeks, I have agreed as long as I'm Funnel Manager! They have done all the roles separately (I said they had to before they could be RDs) but now seem to want to work as a double act. I am formulating my response to the request to be timekeepers together Hmm
My novice timer was absolutely fine, as I knew he would be, and our returning RD was glad to be back in the saddle.
Local Herts/Beds/Bucks parkrunners might be interested in the [https://www.willowfoundation.org.uk/willow10k Willow 10k] at Hatfield House on 2nd October - it's a local charity close to our parkrun's heart and we are fielding a Purple parkrun team. The more the merrier so if you fancy joining us . . .
We are also having a purple parkrun this weekend :o

feetheart · 05/09/2016 11:12

Link fail Willow 10k

cinnamongreyhound · 05/09/2016 22:59

Haven't read back, still sulking after dh not letting me visit pegwell bay!! Had a social media incident with one of my rd's who I had to edit for fear of offence who's now annoyed I edited him. Went to a town council meeting tonight to ask for money for our foresty commission fees and they've agreed to pay for 3 years Smile

chutneypig · 07/09/2016 18:54

That's frustrating kimmi but next week is the beauty of parkrun. Good luck!

That's a definite up and down few days cinnamon but fantastic news on the three years!

Grin at the preformulated timekeeping response feet

PurplePidjin · 07/09/2016 19:25

Debating whether to run (Hmm) or volunteer this week. I've got a nasty on/off hip pain which Dr Google suggests is ligament or cartilage damage. Gp tomorrow for proper advice Sad

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/09/2016 21:52

Boo to MrCinners , and boo to silly social media RDs but hooray for town council Star.

feet we have two timers - a main and a backup. They would have to take it in turns as main/backup I suppose. But they are such a great double act!

Hope your hip improves pidj

I have been full of cold since Monday morning. The weekly call for volunteers has just come round so I might volunteer again this week instead of running. Will see how I feel tomorrow night.

OP posts:
feetheart · 08/09/2016 09:40

59 - we don't call the second timer a 'back-up', we just have 2 timers 4 years of a psychology degree not completely wasted :o
If the boys do ask I will say yes, keep my fingers crossed, make sure the finish funnel camera is working and take lots of photos of them to show the adults how easy a job it is :)
Volunteering sounds sensible if you are feeling under the weather but it's not Saturday yet!
Purple - you too though I'd recommend a sports physio rather than GP. Latter will tell you to rest and take anti-inflammatories, former will tell you what's wrong, what's causing it and what to do to make it better, which may include rest and anti-inflammatories but will probably include exercises too. Money well spent in my book :)
Saying that I hope the GP is useful.

cinnamon - bit of a rollercoaster of a week then? I hope this week is smoother.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/09/2016 11:59

I always think that too feetheart, having too timekeepers sounds so much better than a timekeeper and back up! Back up feel kind of second class and timekeeper feels the pressure!

PurplePidjin · 08/09/2016 14:24

Thanks feet I suspect it might need an x-ray/scan which is gp referral round here. Once I've got an idea I'll be straight on to my lovely chiropractor friend either for treatment or recommendations :)

PurplePidjin · 08/09/2016 21:26

Nope, I'm relegated to marshalling for a few weeks Sad not allowed to swim either 😥 on the plus she reckons acute tendonitis so a fortnight of ibuprofen and nothing too strenuous should fix me

FiftyNineOhEight · 09/09/2016 08:27

That's a shame pidj. I get tendonitis in my wrist from time to time and it's horrid.

I will mention the second timekeeper thing to our RD. We have a backup on our roster this week Smile

My cold is getting better although I now have a cough instead. The volunteer roster is full so I will either attempt a slow run or have a lie in Grin

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 09/09/2016 15:36

Me too (in my hands) and it feels nothing like the spiky hip pain! But rest and ibuprofen cures most things so if it continues I've at least eliminated the obvious!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2016 20:31

Slow run it is FiftyNineOhEight Wink

Enjoy your marshalling Purplepidjin!

What's everyone else doing?

swampytiggaa · 09/09/2016 20:49

It's my birthday tomorrow! So am celebrating by running parkrun with my 2 friends and hopefully helping one of them to a pb 😉 then breakfast on a boat with lots of other parkrunners because another friend is doing her 50th run tomorrow.

Really looking forward to it!

feetheart · 09/09/2016 23:24

I'm RD tomorrow for our Purple parkrun. There will be cake, possibly a raffle and hopefully not too much Purple Rain :)
