Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Ooh no Rosy Sad

Chutney would that be my local one? Say hi to dh Wink

chutneypig · 30/08/2016 06:39

Sadly not Purple, I'd love to give that a go, maybe next year. I did have a good look at the route! Hope DH enjoys it. Has he done it before? I'm doing the Robin Hood, so a couple of weeks later.

Poor you Rosy, hope you can start again soon.

Freshprincess · 30/08/2016 11:10

Oh no, Rosy. I had Burstitis (?) in my foot earlier this year and couldn't run for a month. Surprised myself by how much I missed it.

Hope you're back at it soon.

PurplePidjin · 30/08/2016 22:19

Dh had a stroke when ds1 was 5 weeks old, he's running our local half in a couple of weeks. I've just set up a just giving page, if anybody can spare a quid or two pm me :) and now I shall return to my official Worst Runner position and mention it no more Wink

PurplePidjin · 30/08/2016 22:26

Raising money for the Stroke Association was the missing relevant piece of information Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2016 22:53

Well done AwakeCantSleep! Welcome to the club!

So glad to hear Minnie is back running MelanieCheeks!

Yes I chat to them all the time fiftynineoheight, although I'm not sure I'd need to tell them we're nearly at the top of the hill, they don't seem to bother them!!

Depends how you like to wear them chutneypig, my 25 and 100 are s but my apricot is xs and I'm an 8.

Oh no rosy71, hope it heals quickly!

Loved all the #IAmTeamGB stuff, have attached a selfie of my little dog and my neighbours dog at the finish!

chutneypig · 01/09/2016 18:26

T shirt is here Grin and XS is a perfect fit so thank you all!! Can't wait for Saturday!! Plus I accidentally bought myself some new trainers while getting the kids school trainers.

standingonlego · 01/09/2016 18:29

I have conscripted a new parkrun recruit from work...got her registered, printed her barcode out and going together on Saturday Grin

Kathsmum · 01/09/2016 22:24

First ever parkrun on Saturday. Anything I need to know? Thanks in advance.

FiftyNineOhEight · 01/09/2016 22:50

Kathsmum - Don't forget your barcode. Maybe turn up a little bit early in case there is a briefing for new parkrunners and in case parking is tight/you go the wrong way on the M1 (I have learned from my mistakes after almost missing the start at Northampton and MK for those reasons Grin). Find a friendly volunteer and say hello. And have fun!

Kathsmum · 02/09/2016 09:55

Thank you FiftyNineOhEight. I have bar code printed and ready. Good advice about timings just realised its a busy weekend. Typical!

needyounow · 02/09/2016 18:48

Have decided to go for it tomorrow even though I'm shattered and the though of getting up at 7am isn't too appealing. Once I start running all will be forgotten.
Just wanted to check if I can listen to music when running? And can I leave a small rucksack at the start or somewhere or do you need to keep all belongings with you?
Thanks

karatekimmi · 02/09/2016 21:12

need music and headphones are allowed. With regard to the rucksack it depends on the run. Lots start and finish at the same place so it's fine, others have different locations, some move them for you (Gedling has big IKEA bags at the start). I always put a post on a Facebook group I'm part of and someone has always done that one and can help out with info!

Have you had a look at the parkrun website?

needyounow · 02/09/2016 21:58

Thanks karate. Never thought of asking on Facebook page, will do that now.

Blatherskite · 02/09/2016 22:42

We took the kids out for one last holiday treat tonight and have been on a bat hunt. They didn't get into bed until 10 so parkrun tomorrow may depend on whether DS is up on time or not.

feetheart · 02/09/2016 23:57

But did you find any bats bathers?

Timekeeping tomorrow to support new person who will be fine but doesn't think he will be :)
DS and his mate are barcode scanning - rather tempted to take chairs for them to stand on as it can be difficult to find our scanners in the mass of people milling around. Not sure about adding to risk assessment though :)
Looking forward to a good day as our RD who has been very poorly since Christmas is back in charge tomorrow. A few of us may have something in our eyes at times :)

swampytiggaa · 03/09/2016 08:04

Just gearing myself up for parkrun! Wasn't planning on going today as was hoping for a day out but the forecast is shocking so it is going to be a sorting school uniforms sort of day. So I'm starting it with parkrun :)

swampytiggaa · 03/09/2016 10:17

I'm back with a pb! Under 30 minutes! (Just - 29.57 ) absolutely chuffed to bits!

It was chilly and rainy and brilliant!

MsMarvel · 03/09/2016 11:03

Just ran my first ever parkrun!! Such an amazing feeling.

Never been into running (or excercise in general!) until recently, so being able to run a 5k is an achievement I nevet thought I would accomplish. Next saturday seems too far away for the next one!

needyounow · 03/09/2016 11:27

On my way home from first park run. Really enjoyed it and done better than my 30min target I had set myself.
Got chatting to a few people too. Roll on next week. Smile

chutneypig · 03/09/2016 12:46

Well done swampy, bet you'll be walking on air for the rest of that day.

Very well done MsMarvel and needyounow.

Did you make it Blathers?

Hope the scanning went ok feet.

Some local tourism for us today, scraped under thirty thanks to some generous timing but as had to make a stop on the way round I'll take that Grin

swampytiggaa · 03/09/2016 14:02

:)

From next week I will be back to coaching my friend round to get her pb down which makes me very happy :)

Then we really need to sort out our training for the 10 miler we seem to have signed up to Confused

Blatherskite · 03/09/2016 15:06

We saw lots and lots of bats feet :)

We did make it to parkrun this morning. It wasn't fast but I did run over 10 miles on Thursday at an event so between not being very fit and being tired, I'm reasonably happy. My breathing was definitely better which I'm counting as a positive as my cardio fitness seems to be coming back slowly.

I expected Ds to be tired today but in fact he appears to be full of energy. Asked if we could do a triathlon today (he's been interested since the olympics) so after parkrun, DH ran alongside him while he cycled to and from an hours fun session in the pool. DD and I drove. So he's run 5k, cycled 7k and swum for an hour!! Not bad for a 9 year old.

0ellenbrody0 · 03/09/2016 15:30

blathers wow! Well done to your ds, that's awesome.
Well done first timers, welcome to the family.
Volunteered today which I really enjoyed but looking forward to running next week as I missed last week (withdrawal symptoms).

MsMarvel · 03/09/2016 15:39

Got my time through, 32.11 ! Haopy with that for my first ever 5k!
Its a very flat course though thank god so a bit easier to get a faster time.

All in all, very good fun, absolutely loved it!
